GAELA Awards to honor arts leaders

On Sunday evening, the non-profit Atlanta Coalition of Performing Arts will celebrate the accomplishments of three Atlantans who have played a part in strengthening Georgia’s cultural legacy.

This year’s GAELA recipients include Sarah duBignon, outreach/education coordinator for The Fox Theatre; Stephanie S. Hughley, executive producer of the National Black Arts Festival; and Tom Key, executive artistic director of Atlanta’s Theatrical Outfit. In addition, Lessie Smithgall, will receive the arts philanthropy award. Ms. Smithgall has donated more than $20 million to arts and cultural organizations.

The awards ceremony is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University. Cabaret queen Libby Whittemore is the mistress of ceremony, and there will be performances by the Atlanta Boy Choir, Good Moves Consort and the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta.

Tickets are $74 and $100 and include a champagne and dessert reception.

Glad to see Tom Key recognized, and Libby Whittemore is a hoot. Sounds like a wonderful evening!
