Down Home With C-Span 2
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Bob Dart covered the South as a reporter for the AJC for years, before moving on to the Washington D.C. bureau of Cox Newspapers. Just so there’s no pretense that this isn’t an in-house plug.
His book, “Down Home: Dispatches from Dixie,” is a collection of stories about Southern culture, society and politics. When Dart spoke at Hattie’s Books in Brunswick to promote the book, C-Span was there with its cameras.
Dart’s talk will repeat on C-Span 2 at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17.

Bob Dart is a sensitive and intelligent observer of Southern ways. He writes without accent for any reader. He worked for me at The Atlanta Constitution and in Washington and is a superb reporter. He did not, however, give me a discount for the several books I bought at Hattie’s — probably because he is saving for his retirement to Georgia’s Golden Isles in a few years.

Bob Darts collection of fascinating and beautifully written essays is delightful reading for Southerners or for those who wish to learn about the South. In essays that are sometimes hilarious, sometimes touching, he shares his deep affection for and knowledge of the South and Southerners,

It was fun and relaxing reading for me on a recent vacation. A nice change from the grisley murder mysteries that bring to light the seedy side of the world. Thanks Bob for bringing back some comfortable feelings and a laugh or two!

I enjoyed watching Bob Dart and seeing a Georgia independent bookstore on BookTV Saturday. Following the show, I called Hatties for a copy. Can’t wait to read his southern essays.

I’ve been reading this guys stuff for years.Bob Dart is one of those by-lines you tend to search for in the newspaper. It’s about time he put some of his best adventures in book-form. It was also nice to see C-SPAN roll into a great southern city like Brunswick. I hope “Down Home” sells a bunch of copies so Bob can get to work on his next novel.

Bob Dart’s new book, Down Home – Dispatches from Dixie, is a treasure of assorted gems – each piece a multifaceted little jewel that makes seemingly everyday events and ordinary people sparkle and shine in special ways. His snippets of the South made me laugh and they made me mist – each one is a perfect daily portion for bedside table or water closet. I’m thinking Mr. Dart must have traveled beyond the confines of the Confederate States. If so, it’s time for this author to branch out. I’ll allow him to still stay “down home” – but I’m ready for more of Bob Dart’s writings. How about Yarns from Yankeedom or Words from the West? I’d just like for him to give us something else about this unique little country of ours and its delightful inhabitants. He writes about both so well.
