Girls, trucks, etc. etc.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’m a sucker for a good gimmick.
Wordsmiths Books has one tonight. First-time novelist Katie Crouch, author of “Girls in Trucks,” is coming to do a reading and signing - 7:30 p.m. on Decatur Square - and Wordsmiths is saying that anyone who shows up wearing a debutante gown and/or in a pickup truck will be entered in a contest for a gift certificate. That’s anybody, male or female, so hard to tell what that crowd is going to be like.
I’m also a sucker for an arresting book jacket, and I fell in love with the “Girls in Trucks” cover. The novel is fiction, but Crouch grew up in society in Charleston and is writing from some experience.
Our book reviewer Sunday was not a huge fan. But Wordsmiths’ Russ Marshalek, calls her a “Southern, female David Sedaris,” which is redundant, since Sedaris is Southern, but still makes you want to pick up the book and take a look.
Or show up in Decatur Square tonight in a truck wearing a gown.
