Big Boi’s Ballet
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Atlanta Ballet has posted a video clip of recent rehearsals for their upcoming show, “Big,” on their homepage. The show features the music of Antwan “Big Boi” Patton — one-half of the multiple Grammy Award-winning, Atlanta-based duo OutKast.

The dancing in the clip is fascinating. You can see references to contemporary hip hop dance styles, and even breakdancing, but this isn’t the funky, precise, overtly athletic dancing you’d expect to see with this type of music. These are classical ballet dancers and their movements are fluid, lighter than air. It will be interesting to see what audiences — especially the many hip hop fans who are sure to attend — think of this unlikely match.

My daughter is actually a part of this performance, and I have seen bits and pieces of their dance. I can’t wait to see the whole performance, and see how it fits in with Big Boi’s style.

WTF? This company needs more than pop music to capture an audience.

Why is it that race is always brought into situations. Steve, you need to pray and ask Jesus to change your heart. All people are different, as a matter of fact, every person on earth is different in his/her own way. Identical twins have different personalities.

Steve is one of those people that feel anyone who doesn’t follow the same path he follows is somehow disruptive to the stream. Classic racist.

Dear Steve, Thanks for your insightful comment on the ballet. Now we know how much you love the work Mr. Patton and the Atlanta Ballet have done. You are so right, Steve, blacks always have to be different. Asians always have to be different. Latinos always have to be different. White does not always equal right…you don’t know any better. But guess what Steve? If there were no other man, you wouldn’t have anyone to try to be like…or steal from…or imprison. We know you love us Steve. Have a great day! Love, Lois

This production is both a wonderful artistic and social statement about our city and I am shocked that we have not seen more local coverage. The New York Times Arts section did a wonderful artical today. Kirsten please tell us more about it!

Saw today’s New York Times article on “big”; front page of Arts and Leisure section! Where is our AJC coverage? Our local arts coverage is usually good, but could not find anything on this piece which has engendered quite a bit of national buzz.
