Art History as Inspiration
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

If you’re interested in art history, you may enjoy Geraldine Brooks’ latest novel, “People of the Book,” an imaginative account of the possible journey of an actual Jewish prayer book, the Sarajevo Haggadah. Brooks won a Pulitzer Prize for her previous novel, “March.” You can read my interview with her here.
For those of us who are fascinated by art and art history, there have been many wonderful recent novels and nonfiction narratives to choose from.
Another recent gem: “The Lost Painting,” a nonfiction narrative about a recently discovered Caravaggio masterpiece, by Jonathan Harr, who also wrote “A Civil Action.” Harr really did his homework, moving to Italy and learning Italian so he wouldn’t lose any nuances through a translator.
