Little Big Town — From The Road
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The first of two — count them, two — Dispatches From The Road today comes from Karen Fairchild (pictured above, far left) of breakout country foursome Little Big Town; one of two members who grew up in the metro area — who are also playing Friday night at The Tabernacle.
Seen AJC writer Rodney Ho’s story yet? Already have your ticket for their show? Remember Karen from her Marietta days?
Well read along as she reminisces
Coming back to Atlanta is a big deal for our band… especially a chance to play a great venue like The Tabernacle. Kimberly and I grew up in Georgia. She’s from Cornelia and I spent many years in Marietta. All of our families are still in Georgia, so this will be a bit of a homecoming for us. We’ve been looking forward to this for a long time and working like crazy on the set of music for this tour. We’ve been listening to the fans request songs and we’ve been watching the message boards to see what set lists they are putting together. This tour is all about the fans and what they want to hear.
In fact, we just announced a national competition for the fans to pick our opening act and I know Atlanta has tons of talented musicians who should register. Any musician across the nation can register at http://eventful.com/littlebigtown and compete to land a spot on our tour. Once the bands are registered, the rest is up to the support of their fans who can bolster their favorite acts’ chances by voting on the same site. The four performers with the most demands will perform at different stops on the tour during March. You’ve got until February 27th and then we’ll announce the winners.
We’ve had amazing opportunities as an opening act and had the honor of opening for John Mellencamp, George Strait, Martina McBride, Sugarland, Keith Urban and more. Because of our experiences, we wanted to find a way to give back to some bands that are just getting started in their careers. It’s even more special because the fans get to choose just like the fans have been there for us.
We’ve been a band for ten years now and the reason we write songs, put our babies on buses, and travel around like a bunch of gypsies is so we can experience that connection with people. There isn’t anything like it in the world. These days we all need an escape and for a couple of hours every night we can get together and forget about everything and just get lost in some music. If you haven’t made plans for this Friday night in Atlanta, please come out and see us at The Tabernacle. There are two things we can promise… lots of harmony and a good time. Isn’t that what we all need?
