Bow Wow’s night to remember
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Wow, what a night to remember … I’ve performed in a lot of places, for a lot of people, but I must say that the Kids Inaugural was pretty surreal. It was a true honor getting to perform for Mrs. Obama and her daughters along with so many other military families. If you didn’t get a chance to check me out last night on the Disney channel, I performed alongside Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and others on the “Kids Inaugural - We Are The Future” concert. You can watch it right now at www.disney.com.
I got the crowd rocking with “Marco Polo,” and initially I was also scheduled to perform “Shortie Like Mine,” but earlier in the day I was feeling so overwhelmed and humbled by everything that I decided to go way back to the “Lil” Bow Wow days and pull out “Thank You.” I hadn’t performed it in so long, but it just felt like the right song at the right time. That song took on a whole new meaning for me after last night.
After the show, I was able to meet with the First Lady herself and then caught up with JD, Miley and the Jonas Brothers (we said we’re gonna do a song together real soon … now that’ll make the girls SCREAM for real). Later that night, I was a special guest host at the Hip Hop Inaugural Ball and was honored alongside MC Lyte, T.I., Young Jeezy & LL Cool J for our work during the election encouraging the youth to register and vote.
It was an incredibly late night, but it was all worth it …. and then I still managed to get up at 5:00 this morning for a live CNN interview!!! For the rest of today, though, I’ve really just been taking in President Obama’s inauguration. It’s a historic day and I’m honored to have been a participant. I hope I can continue to be the voice of the youth; to inspire and ignite change for our leaders of tomorrow.
With much respect and love to all my fans, friends and family,
Bow Wow

BW,
Please explain to us why you feel “Marco Polo” has appropriate lyrics for the Kids’ Inaugural. After Googling your lyrics, I was shocked and appalled even after you “cleaned it up” a bit. Others may be proud of your “maturing” but I think you need to decide who your audience is and not try to play both sides.

Common Sense,
Please help me out on how to explain to my eleven year old the lyric “whip so big it beep when I back out”.
Thankey.

Great job Bow Wow! I am a long time fan of yours.
As for the all the other idiots with their racist and ignorant comments: How are we ever going to evolve as One Nation Under God if you keep all this hatred and negativity in your heart and mouth. Did you not listen to any of President Obama’s speech yesterday? Grow up! Please!

In response to SO Refugee. The lyric “whip so big it beep when I back out” means that his oversize vehicle (example: Hummer with 26 inch rims) is huge just like the industrial vehicles that make a beeping sound when in reverse. LOL

I could question the lyrics like others, but I would rather use this as an opportunity to say, Bow Wow just remember who your audience is and although the degrading stuff sales, remember the legacy you want to leave. You are very talented and the ability to impact the future in ways you may not understand yet. Keep your head up, yesterday was proof how we can all prevail over bigotry and racism!

Why is it racist for someone to acknowledge that Marco Polo has lyrics such as “Last night ya girl forhead was on my abs” that may be innappropriate for children and he should consider the effect this has on them. Diddy, Jay-Z, Russell Simmons have all come out recently saying the image of Hip-Hop needs new direction. R they racist also?

People, please move forward. If the last year has taught us anything it’s that America can move past the hatred and venom that some may have in their heart and look for new solutions for our society.
Who cares what these entertainers say. They are “entertainers”. If you dont like what they say, then don’t expose your family to their brand of entertainment. And don’t post comments to their blogs..
This too shall come to past…

Real Talk it’s ignorant people like you who say things like “You brought us over here,… now a black man is you commander and Chief! I bet this will make you think twice the next time you decide to go kidnap innocent people and force them into slavery!” come on man one nation united stop talking about travesties from over hundred years ago. We’ve made history yesterday and your regressing to reverse racism. No one alive today is responsible for slavery let it go.

Well.. Well I never knew Bow Wow incited such heated debates?! Perhaps he should get his own show on CNN or Comedy central to talk politics from the youth perspective… then he can have lifeless clones like some of you on here to call in and make dumb f*@k comments! Bow - I say use this hate to your advantage and become the next Howard Stern!!! LoL

AJC.com,
At the next board meeting, please mention that one of your readers would like to propose a “Report Offensive” button to every comment that is posted. I’m sure these types of comments are prevelant in numerous other publications, but only in the south do I have to read and re-read bigotry posts by people that wouldn’t DARE say it in public.

To Unity,
Bow Wow was the only blemish on an otherwise family-friendly Kid’s Inaugural show.
We didn’t watch for his act and will make sure to avoid him in the future.

Sunshyne- We will not grow as “one nation under god” and end racism until we as a nation just become one race (American). No more African-American. It is separatist organizations/industry like the NAACP, BET, United Negro College Fund, and the Congressional “Black” Caucus who continue to keep people separate. On the topic… I hope rap/hip-hop artist will think about how their lyrics/message affects the American youth culture.

It’s unbelievable that in 2009 adults would come on a public blog and speak in such a degrading and ignorant manner! Mr. Obama my hat goes off to you and a prayer goes up for you. CHANGE is a great goal to achieve but because of some of these comments on here it will indeed be an uphill battle. Some of you would rather die being ignorant and full of hate rather than embrace change and live a fulfilled and prosperous life!

I’ll say it 2 u MOFO: put your real name and address and see how many show up on your doorstep and save you the trouble……..just sayin’! I’m not trying to promote further ignorant comments, but many of you do hide behind your computer screen and keyboard and spew hatred because you are so dissatisfied with yourselves or your accomplishments…or lack thereof! If you aren’t a Bow Wow fan, then why post, scroll past and keep it moving!

My President isn’t African American, he’s biracial..I wish him all the luck that he’s going to need in the next 4 years..
As for Bow Wow, I don’t know that much about him, but I just hope that he takes advantage of who he is & makes the most of his talent…

You all were silent the day after the election, except for on here where you can HIDE BEHIND YOUR COMPUTERS…and now again…you speak from behind your computers…If you put more energy into minding your own business and raising your kids to do more than METH, you wouldn’t have to worry about anyone’s lyrics…your kids would do the right things regardless.

SO Refugee, this text will be bolded We can blame your mama (which means mother :)) for not closing dem (those) big lips of yours. If U didn’t realize, he was ASKED to perform WITH CLEAN LYRICS. Damn, haters like U just p** me off. Talkin bout “Bow didn’t get raised right” obviously YOU haven’t been raised to SHUT UR MOUTH. shoot, lucky I ain’t in the mood to cuss (tell you off)If U let ur child listen to that music then obviously ur not rasing ur child well, and puttiny him against the bad influence (which I don’t see cause Bow is a pretty good role model to be honest) HAVE A NICE DAY, AND KEEP RASING UR CHILD LIKE AN IGNORANT LOSER :)
