Rate Your Robin Thicke Experience
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Reports are coming in that last night’s “Sexy, Soulful” set at the Atlanta Civic Center — with Terence Howard, Eric Benet and Robin Thicke — was a little, well, soul-impaired.
Specifically speaking, that headliner Thicke (above, see the rest of our gallery HERE) gave less than an hour show. And Oscar nominee Howard didn’t show at all.
Were you there last night? And if so, what did you think?

First of all the opening act didn’t care to show which was indicative of what was to come. Eric Benet performance was excellent however, you would think that headliner Robin would ‘turn the lights off’ with his performance but instead we received a 30min abbreviated version of something that he could have kept behind the curtains.

That was a terrible excuse of a show!! It was a sad version of what you would think that you might get for the prices that you pay for tickets. You would have thought last night that Eric Benet was the headliner the way that the other acts came or didn’t come out to preform!! If I could have a conversation with Robin Thicke I would let him know that he owes me money for outfits, babysitter, and drinks and that comes out to be about $400!! I’ll take cash only!!

Wow, I apologize atlanta. Does anyone know what happened. We in DC had the opposite happen. Both Terrance and Eric had to cancel on us and Robin did about a two hour set. And it was very well done even though the Washington Post reviewer disagrees.

DISAPPOINTED! To say the least. I hope that Robin somehow reads this comment because really and truly his show was Horrendous with a capital H. I know that he has performance issues meaning I have seen his live performances in the past so I know that he sometimes struggles with pitch, key and so forth but to get on stage and to sing for half an hour is hurtful- especially if you are billed as the headliner! He tried to make some sexy moves and be seductive but how can you achieve slow and sexy when you are on chipmunk speed. I do not feel appreciated and Robin will NEVER get another legitimate dollar from me again. How dare you take my hard earned money (and times are hard too) perhaps he should change his last song to Luda’s “Chopped and Screwed”, because that’s how you treated all your fans that came out to see you last night in Atlanta, Ga.
On another note, Eric Benet was a life-saver and his voice and performance were outstanding.

The venue where the concert was held shortened Robin’s performance. During the musical intermission, Robin went backstage when he came back on stage he told the audience that he was told to cut his performance short he could only do two more songs. The venue cut it short. This is how unprofessional the Atlanta Civic Center was. Um, now that I have the full story, why is this article not reporting the full facts?? I mean really who is to blame here Robin or the venue’s time management skills??

I went to the concert last night and it was horrible. Cruddy’s comment about the venue ending the concert early does not matter. Robin has already stunk it up after only 3 songs and we had already decided we were not staying. I am a HUGE Robin Thicke fan. I have his new cd in my regular rotation and know all of the lyrics to all of the songs. Though I will continue to listen to his albums every chance I get I will never go to another concert. He was very pitchy and out of tune during all of the songs. He also messed up the lyrics to “Magic”. It was an amateur display as his keyboardist tossed a drum stick to his drummer who missed it and then someone had to run on stage to pick it up and take it to him…People were pouring out the doors with me when I left 3 songs into his set and that was way before they turned the lights on. He could have played for longer but he would have been playing to an empty house. Sorry to be so hard on him but I’m being honest and anyone who was there knows it. I still love his cds…

I bought my husband tickets to see Robin Thicke in concert on 12/28 at Atlanta Civic Center. Both of us are fans of Mr. Thicke, and enjoy seeing good live music together. So, I thought this would be a great Christmas present. First, I didn’t even realize that Eric Benet was part of the show until I actually received the tickets in the mail. We live in Chattanooga, TN, so I had heard nothing on the radio, etc. All I had to go by was Ticketmaster. So, we aren’t really fans of Mr. Benet. Not that he isn’t a great musician. He just wasn’t who we went to see. So, imagine our disappointment when he gets to perform for almost an hour and a half and Robin Thicke is only on stage for 30 minutes! These were expensive tickets. I bought them as the main gift to my husband for Christmas. Money is tight right now, as it is for most people, so this was a big deal to us. It just seems like your venue said, “We’ve got our money,” and didn’t care about all of us that had paid good money for tickets to see these artists perform their FULL sets. Unlike others who have posted, we thought Robin was GREAT. But.. we left feeling horribly short-changed. We didn’t even get to hear songs from most of his new album! I think we should all be given partial refunds for the poor actions of this venue. Now I sort of understand why I had never been to a concert there, and it was all worn out and broken down. And Robin, if you catch wind of this… come back and redeem yourself in ATL!

Why would the promoters substitute a xxx rated comic to open a concert? I was appalled. If not for Eric Benet, I would have written off the $142 for two tickets as a charitable contribution. Robin Thicke stunk! Then to have nerve to actually tell his fans he had to cut his performance short was an insult. He should apologize to ATL for his sorry excuse of a show. We along with most people left early.

Eric Benet deserves props. That’s the end of my comments about him. But, dude, I don’t get it!!! How the he11 does the Civic Center allow the HEADLINER, Robin Thicke, 30 minutes to perform! Robin was off pitch on the faster jams, but he was cool on the slower ballads. He got better with time. Poor fellow probably felt the pressure of being rushed!!! In the end, I think The Civic Center SUCKS!!! You fkrs, how dare you cheat hard working folks in this bad economy. I spent my week’s grocery and light bill money for this!!!!

The Civic Center was rented. The customer was Robin Thick. Just like hotel rooms,it’s up to the customer how long and what is done with the venue. Robin had 30 minutes more scheduled for this performance. Robin was having a bad night…no matter how much you paid for your ticket. It happens okay. Grow up folks. I know because I worked the show. P.S. It was disappointing that Terence Howard no showed. That wasn’t The Civic Center’s fault either.

Just because you worked the show, Eye Witness, and you got paid off of my hard earned money PAID to see THREE performances, but was shown merely one and a half in return…!!! How dare you tell us to “grow up”. How EASY it is for the beneficiary to minimize pain inflicted over the inferior product that we all were afforded that night! I understand that we should not knock the hustle, but when you pay for something, I’m sure, even, YOU expect to get what you paid for!

Hey Janel you are right. You did not get your money’s worth last night. The profiteers like the National and Local promoters, the Artists Thick, Howard,Benet, and the Sponsors owe you all. The Civic Center had no control over what happened at this event. They are merely the rental venue. Sorry if I was being Stoic. I believe the customer/ticketholder,is always right.

I was very upset that Robin only sang for about 30minutes. I was looking forward to more songs. I thought he sounded great and Eric Benet did a good show (even though I didn’t know most of the songs). I do hope that Robin comes back to Atlanta and make up for this. I will be holding on to my ticket, just in case..

Horrible. A complete waste of time, effort, makeup, and babysitter. I typically hate going to the Civic Center for concerts (acoustics/sound, dreary building, parking etc.), but for the first time, I was somewhat pleased with the sound, I had a good seat, and the parking wasn’t as bad as usual. This time the most important part of the experience—the performance—-was horrible. Benet was decent, and though I didn’t care to see Howard anyway, I paid for 3 singers so I expected 3. I couldn’t believe Thicke cut his set so short, without even an explanation to the crowd. I dragged my husband to this show, so of course he’s been saying I told you so ever since. Wish I could get a refund.

Utterly disappointing!!! I didn’t know if I was there for a comedy show or an Eric Benet concert. Robin Thicke should be ashamed of himself.

Atl, Well here is the deal. Fans in Califormia had a chance to talk to Robin and some of his band memebers and in a nutshell, there were disappointed as well. They were told they had to leave. Basically, they were cut early and they were unhappy because they did feel the fans were short changed. So pls believe, he will comeback and redeem himself. And he is apologetic about the whole situation. So maybe he will go to another venue or use other promoters and show you all what they are really made of.

I have read the comments and pretty much agree with the posts on the blog. I actually thought the comedian was the best part of the show. Nobody has given himany props. Eric Benet was good especially with the timeless hits he performed. And Robin Thicke: I personally thought he was jamming on the first two songs. The crowd was on their feet. Then disaster struck. He went to the back and return as TWISTA(Chicago Rapper who delivers lyrics extermely fast) He rushed through his signature song(Lost without you) without giving any background on the song. Eric Benet did a great job in telling the story behind every song before performing. This money was well wasted. On top of that, my date mentioned that she was not a big fan of either artist anyway..Refund requested..

Ok, here’s my second post… and maybe not my last. I have read what everyone else has said and it seems like we’re all pretty much on the same page… Robin, you need to come back to ATL and do a solo show to give all of us a chance to really hear you! I too think that he felt rushed and this was the reason for any problems with the performance. I’m a performer myself, so I understand. Just think how you would feel when you think your show is going as planned only to have to cut it short with NO NOTICE. You are left to scramble and figure out what songs to cut from your setlist, how to give the audience the best show with the limited time you’ve been given, etc. It’s hard! So, much love and respect to Robin for not taking his vocal break and giving us as much as he could! And here’s an extra thought for you… those of us that have tickets from this show could get first dibs on the best seats in the house at the next show! Or meet & greet opportunities! Or BOTH! I still love Robin… but I will never go to the Civic Center again.

I don’t know what the bull was about having to cut the show short. I worked the show as well and everything was right on time. It wouldn’t have mattered if he’d sung for an hour or 2 hours. He stunk up the joint. He was sweating profusely after the second song and he couldn’t carry a note in a wet paper bag. Some people just need to stay in the studio. Don’t try the live thing. Eric Benet did a fantastic job. He should have been the headliner.

Many of you mentioned that the venue was the problem. The venue had nothing to do with the notes Robin missed. He was singing some notes that aren’t even on the chart. We jammed to the first song and it went down hill from there. As a volunteer we were told the schedule and I’m sure it was a schedule that he approved. The show was right on time and Robin came on at his appointed time. If the venue did cut his show short that still doesn’t excuse his vocals.

I was mad that I could not go to the show but after reading these comments I am glad I missed it. I have heard that Robin was a studio singer only and that live he sucked…now I believe it.
Thank you Lord that I had the wisdom to keep my hard earned money in the bank! Sorry to all of those who was cheated out of a good show.

I am so glad, that I ran out of money. Terence Howard can’t sing, I wanted to hear my boy Robin but he chose to mess the whole thing up. I hear. Eric of course, is a great singer and playa. I got his latest cd and it is great. Oh well, I glad I chilled.

I’m a Eric Benet fan and I traveled to him, not Robin Thicke. I enjoy Robins music but I LOVE Eric Benet. I was very happy with the show!! Eric Benet was fanastic and his vocals were on point. Ya’ll are correct, Eric should have been the headliner, he was!!!!!

Can anyone tell me how to go about getting a refund for the Robin Thicke show that was held at Constitution Hall on December 27th? People were told that if they didn’t go in (since Terrance Howard and Eric Benet did not show for whatever reason) that they would be entitled to a refund. Thanks in advance for your help.
