Usher Gives V-103’s Frank and Wanda’s Christmas Promo A $20,000 Assist

It pays to have a city full of celebrities - literally, Wednesday morning, as V-103’s Frank Ski and Wanda Smith rang Usher for some help with their annual Christmas Wish List promotion, and Atlanta’s multimillion-selling R&B singer responded with a $20,000 check.

“You can always rely on me, no question,” he told the duo. “Atlanta has always supported me and it’s unspoken for me to help.”

Shortly afterwards, Mayor Shirley Franklin was on the air for her monthly V-103 visit and applauded the five-time Grammy winner for his efforts — calling him a longtime, great ambassador of Atlanta. “He is amazing,” Franklin said. “It really shows Usher’s compassion and makes me so proud of him. Atlanta is a great place because of people like Usher.”

“We’ve been close to Usher and his family and have watched him grow tremendously,” Smith added in a press release. “I knew Usher would step up to the plate because that’s the kind of man he is. Usher is a special person and will continue to be blessed because of his heart.”

Each year the top-rated morning show has people write in 2,000 words or less why their family or a family they know of deserves to have a wish granted. The deadline to submit an entry is Dec. 17 at 5 p.m. at www.v103webmag.com

Usher’s generosity kick-started what Ski and Smith hope will be a big money-generating weekend. Saturday Smith hosts her annual Wanda Smith & Friends comedy show at the Atlanta Civic Center. And Sunday Ski and his wife Tanya have their fifth annual celebrity wine tasting and live auction fundraiser for the Frank Ski Kids Foundation at their home. Minimum contribution $250. (Pocket change to our Usher types).

Ever benefited from the morning show’s annual Christmas Wish List effort? Planning to attend “Wanda Smith and Friends” and/or the wine tasting and auction fundraiser?

I heard Usher call V103 and donate the money and he had me in tears. That was extremely nice of him and I am sure God will bless him ten fold!

Dear Frank and Wanda

I want to grant a special Christmas wish to a very special person, my niece (in-law) Kierston Milton, more affectionally known as Kiki. Kiki is a young 27 year old single mother who has a seven year old son Gerrod and has taken in her younger cousin Erica; her uncle’s daughter, who was just six months old at the time and was going to be taken away and given up to Foster Care. The family has just recently attended Erica’s birthday party, she has just turned a year old.

Kiki is one of the most selfless persons that I know. She did not want Erica to go into Foster Care and become a part of the system to be cared for by strangers, wondering if she would be cared for properly, so Kiki stepped up to the plate to keep Erica in the family. Because Erica is family, Kiki does not qualify for Foster Care funds and because she works and she is also attending college on line, she can not qualify for food stamps or any other assistance. She does qualify for “Family Care” which is barely $100.00 per month. She does not receive any assistance from the parents. She is doing this own her own, out of love for family.

Because of Kiki’s dedication to family, devotion to help others and pure selflessness, I think that she is deserving of being granted a very special Christmas wish. Because Kiki is so giving of herself, in addition to asking you to assist her with the children, I would like something special done for Kiki, “mama Kiki” as Erica would put it, just learning her first words.

Frank and Wanda, I married into a family who has taught me what family is all about and have watched my niece Kiki grow into a beautiful person for the past 14 years. I beseech you to grant Kierston “Kiki” Milton a very special Christmas wish because I believe she is so deserving of this.

Thank you,

Her Uncle

Eddie

I can be reached at 770-899-8157 (cell) or 678-402-6782 (home). Kiki can be reached at 404-729-9037.
