See Big Boi on Law & Order Tonight
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Antwan “Big Boi” Patton of Atlanta hip-hop duo OutKast is making a pretty sizable appearance on television this evening.
He is guest starring on NBC’s “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” at 10 p.m. . And in the “Wildlife” episode he portrays “Gots Money”, a rapper involved in an exotic animal smuggling ring under investigation by Detective Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni).
Think you’ll tune in tonight? How would you rate Big Boi’s other acting turns in “Idlewild”, “ATL” and “Who’s Your Caddy?” Looking forward to his solo bow — “Sir Luscious Leftfoot: Son of Chico Dusty”?

BIG DEAL! Whether its Ludacris, Lil’ Jon, T.I., Usher, OutKast or any of the other ego-maniac “so-called” celebrities in Atlanta or throughout the country, what have & are they REALLY doing with their collective wealth to help the masses of their own people? And I’m not talking about co-endorsing a free turkey giveaway with a major company on Thanksgiving Day or another lame form of PR stunt that only makes them “look good” before the cameras. Instead, what are they doing to stimulate creativity & ongoing prosperity? I’m talking about using just a small percentage of their enormous wealth (which is tax-deductable anyways) to stimulate wealth by forming companies that can create jobs, or paying for four or five years of college at a public institution for a few young black kids who are working hard in school, but don’t have the ability to cover college tuition on their own. All the money these celebrities have won’t get them into Heaven! That has to be earned by the humble deeds they produce!

What is a “Boi?” I thought boy was spelled boy? Why do thugs spell things wrong on purpose? I guess to show how bright they are.

Ron, I’m not sure who you are and what you do but that was a nondeserving statement. Why would you classify him as a thug? Any way how bright are you because statements end in periods and not question marks. Who was your grammar teacher and what did you learn?

Now Ron, why you gotta be calling him a thug because of his name. It’s just part of hip hop, something you must not know about.

Hey Marco. You need to go get an education and stop skipping school to sell drugs. “That show how bright you are?” Shouldn’t that be SHOWS, not show? Also, “who ever” is whoever, bright one.

To Jay and his cosigner Manny: Google these charities: 1.Big Boi’s Big Kidz Foundation 2.Ludacris Foundation 3. T.I. Foundation
Before you go mouthing off your ignorant opinions about what you don’t have a clue about at least do the research first. Take a minute to read the thousands of articles regarding the work these hip hop artists have done for their communities and other communities. It’s people like you have always focus on the negative of people and always overlook the positive…Until you have been in someone’s shoes…you should keep your mouth shut about what goes on in hip hop and stop believing everything you here on the news…why don’t you ask what charities has someone like Marilyn Manson donated to????

Once again, a hip hop artist is portrayed as a criminal on television or film. Antwan’s (his Christian name) back is to the camera and he is flanked by detectives on either side of him. Looks very familiar when it comes to black men, even if the other detective is black. And why must the episode title be “Gots Money” instead of “Got Money”? There goes the grammatically-incorrect stereotype. As a black woman, I’m sick of seeing my people willingly perpetrate harmful images that continue to demonize us in the media. Antwan is not a struggling actor trying to make ends meet. He can elect to portray a more positive and culturally-responsible on-screen image.

Ugggghhhh! Why must people ALWAYS hate??? I am always thrilled when ANY musician of ANY genre exercises their acting chops (and yes, ESPECIALLY rappers) and actually does well showing how multi-talented they are hopefully to dispel and/or attract the same group of people who dismiss musicians as ignorant and nothing else which is far from being true. It shows and proves that they are multi-faceted and will have longevity beyond hip-hop and I’m proud of that. I’m sorry Ron, but these days rap has turned into a career and those who can’t, well they just complain. FYI Boi’ is just another way to spell boy creatively which is what music is…creative expression! If you know anything about Big Boi you would know his persona is far from being a thug, hence the name of his group ‘OUTKAST’. While you’re at being so critical of Big Boi, Luda, T.I., Usher, (who, FYI, is a SINGER not a rapper. See how they categorize us as all the same?) and Lil’ Jon, why don’t you do a little research on each of them to see the wonderful foundations they have and the other notable things they have participated in and contributed to in and out of their communities which have nothing to do with turkey giveaways. On that note, I will watch Big Boi on Law & Order tonight where I’m sure he’ll do a fine job just like Luda did when he was on Law & Order.

Electra:
Oh I agree.
It unnecessarily perpetuates a negative stereotype, but do you think Mr. Patton has the acting chops to pull of any other role?
Do you see him agreeing to play, say, a gay aids victim or an America’s Cup skipper?
Bit of a stretch, maybe?

even if the other detective is black.
Electra: In case you missed it, the “black detective” is and has always been played by Ice-T, himself a hip hop legend. Kind of invalidates your point.
Also: If you read the entry, the episode is called Wildlife. “Gots Money” is the rap star character Big Boi plays in the episode.

Heavens to mercy! Why all the negative energy here? I like Big Boi’s acting skills personally. He is simply expanding on the characters he creates when he rhymes. It’s called escapism. We all had it maybe as kids and artists are those who continue that escapism through their creative endeavors. Big Boi is talented as well as many other artists in the A. I applaud his efforts and will add this caviat: he is well rounded-it shows. He should not have to carry the burden of carrying our race on his back in the roles he chooses. That’s why they are called ROLES! There are all types of people in all colors. WE all should start realizing that the human condition is the real issue here, not a black or white one. Color is window dressing. We all breathe the same human air..all of us!

Big Boi took the role because he wanted to for whatever reason. All kinds of celebrities have been guest stars on the various Law and Order shows over the years for whatever reason playing murdered, thugs, lawyers, etc. Didn’t Julia Roberts play a murderer or accomplice? Who cares; it is either good entertainment or not and it does not glorify violence or other irresponsible behavior.

i just hate when those that dont know talk about about things well…that they dont know. Several people on this blog are expressing themselves as if this is Big Boi first acting gig… HELLO!!! he was the villain in ATL and a moonshine hustlin’ womaninzin’ juke joint/speakeasy owner in Idlewild
there are other miscellaneous roles that he has played over the years. so again if you dont know something at least do your research before you talk. and those people who i am talking about KNOW who they are.
it would be nice if he (Big Boi) could give us some news about the next ‘Kast album. in my opinion they are one of the greatest rap groups of all time
NWA and UGK come first
