T.I. Has No. 1 Album AND Single
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Atlanta rapper-actor T.I. told us when his new CD was released last week that “I am doing everything I can these days to ensure success” — and today it paid off.
The official results are in from Billboard magazine, and T.I.’s latest CD “Paper Trail” has debuted atop The Billboard 200 charts; making it the No. 1 album in the country.
“Paper Trail” is his third straight No. 1 on The Billboard 200. And it is his biggest sales week ever — with a reported 568,000 copies sold in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. It also marks the third-highest first-week sales this year. Plus it is his record label, Atlantic’s, biggest sales week since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991.
But the good news doesn’t stop there: T.I. also broke a record on the Hot 100, where he made the largest leap to No. 1 — a record he set himself only six weeks ago. “Live Your Life” featuring Rihanna, the latest single from “Paper Trail,” jumped from 80 to 1, replacing the T.I. single “Whatever You Like”.
And since we’re talking hometown, here’s another interesting factoid for you: T.I. is the first artist to replace himself at No. 1 since Atlanta R&B superstar Usher switched out “Burn” for “Confessions Part II” in July 2004.
Are you among the hundreds of thousands who bought “Paper Trail” its first week? How would you rate it? Surprised it didn’t do the debut week numbers Lil Wayne did (a million plus)?

This is a perfect example of making your haters your motivators. TI has been ridiculed by his peers, the industry because of his recent arrent. He did not let that get him down instead he came out punching and now look how it paid off. This dude is awesome. I am very happy for him. He turned a negative in to a positive…Much respect

This young man is VERY TALENTED I must SAY!!! Your words are very powerful. T.I., May you continue to be Blessed! You are a HUMBLE young man, my granddaughters and I, (ages 5 & 7) saw you and Tiny in a resturant on Howell Mill Rd, this meant so much to them, that you both actually spoke to them. Remain Humble!

I usually don’t purchase rap albums and I have been an “undercover” fan of TIs. I had to buy this one because of the trials (although through self admission) he put himself through to see how he relayed it in his music. I AM IMPRESSED. I pre-judged him and to listen to the number 3 cut (go buy it and you will know what I am referring to) he explains why he felt he needed to do the things he did knowing he was making bad choices. Made me rethink alot on his actions. Much Success TI and thank you for owning up to your mistakes and trying to correct him - you have my respect

Very hot album. I met him at FSO 2008 and he was a very friendly and humbled man. I have not stopped listening to it since I bought it. Hopefully, TI will consider a reggae collaboration soon for his Jamaican crew. Irie!

I got it last week and it’s the only CD I play in the car. He has tracks with John Legend, Rihanna, and Justin Timberlake. It definitely should have topped Lil Wayne’s. T.I is actually saying something.

I (32 yr old) bought the album from Walmart (edited version) because my 8 yr old son loves TIP. I must say we haven’t taken out of the CD player yet. We blast it to school and from school and all weekend long. It’s the best cd I’ve heard in a long time. My 59 year old mother listened to it on our way out of town last weekend and she loves your message. She’s now a fan for life. I’m especially enjoying explaining some of your messages to my son. You make sense TIP, keep on making music. We all mess up and people don’t always understand why. THANKS FOR THE EXPLANATION! We appreciate it. FAN FOREVER!

T.I. I just want you to know how proud I am of you on your success and turning your life into something positive. I never had the opportunity to meet you but you have worked with my husband and his program at a facility for kids with behavioral problems outside the Atlanta area. I just want you to know that God has a plan for all of us and if you can reach one or two kids then that is a job well done. You were so kind to also acknowlege them in your insert cover of Paper Trail. Keep doing what you do.

Yes, I was definitely one of the individuals that purchased Paper Trail the day it came out. I am so proud of TI; this is an example how negative is turned into positive in all aspects. Keep up the good work and stay FOCUS…you are “SITTING ON TOP OF THE WORLD”. I am 41 years old and a big fan of yours. :)!!!

Best album of 2008. I love 56 bars,Illy, every chance I get, what’s up what’s happening—those are just a few of my favs. I really love this album-as a 36 year old teacher. It probably would have sold more but in my city—Target sold out and so did circuit city. I had to get it the 2nd day from Best buy. This was in Columbus though. Love Paper trail to death.

I’ve been one of Tip’s fans since I’m Serious but real talk, I was blown away by just how good “Paper Trail” is. After all, how many CDs are released these days where you can just listen from beginning to end without skipping? I haven’t been this pleased with a rap CD since the days of Biggie and Tupac. Please do not bootleg this. Do yourself a favor and buy it. Go out and buy it. This CD will be in heavy rotation for a long time. T.I. you are no longer King of the South. It’s time to enlarge your territory.

Great job Tip. The best rap album I have heard this year. If Wayne sold 1 million in the first week, you should have at least sold 2. Thanks for the explanation surrounding those circumstances. You couldn’t have said anything any better. Keep up the good work young man.

I’ve been a big T.I. fan since I’m Serious, he is such a good artist! So real! But I do admit, I haven’t gone out and bought the new album. Yet. But I’m on my way! And Jeezy’s new album is good too, go pick it up!

Krista, if you like Jeezy, and I am not knocking his CD because I like it to, but “Paper Trail” is better. It’s really no comparison, neither is Lil Wayne. Speaking of Lil Wayne, I still to this day don’t see what the hype around “The Carter 3” was. In my opinion, it was just okay.
