Maxwell Resurfacing Again - In Atlanta
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Seven years after his last album (“Now”), and almost three months since he shocked audiences with an unannounced appearance/performance at the BET Awards, R&B singer Maxwell is resurfacing again, Nov. 12 at the Atlanta Civic Center.
Tickets range from $39.50-$150 and go on sale today at www.livenation.com, all Ticketmaster outlets or charge by phone at 404-249-6400. Newcomer Jazmine Sullivan — who’s also scheduled to be at V-103’s For Sisters Only this weekend — will open.
Have you missed Maxwell (pictured above — when he had way more hair — during one of his last appearances in Atlanta, in 1999? What did you think of his part in the BET Awards tribute to Al Green? (See it HERE)
And if you don’t know how Sullivan — which would be a bit surprising as she has had the No. 1 single on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop chart for weeks — see a YouTube video of that hit, “Need U Bad,” BELOW:

He was GREAT on the BET Awards and I look forward to him coming back, he’s been out of the spot light for far too long and has one of the few GREAT Voices.

This guy is classy. I wondered what happened to him.
We need more Maxwell and less of this other musical garbage you are seeing within R&B nowadays…

I didn’t enjoy Maxwell’s performance on this year’s BET Awards. He didn’t hit the signature notes of “Simply Beautiful” that make the song what it is. He seemed to struggle with them when Al Green just glided over them like butter on a hot skillet. Not that Maxwell was supposed to sing the song exactly like Al, but he certainly wasn’t supposed to struggle. Also, I took issue with Maxwell asking BET to show him some love. That segment wasn’t about him—it was about Al Green. I thought that was tacky. Just because he hadn’t been on the scene for a few years and makes an impromptu appearance at the BET Awards, it still wasn’t about Maxwell. That was Rev. Al’s moment. But let me be real—I used to love Maxwell when he first came out on Urban Hang Suite. “Til the Cops Come Knockin” and “Reunion” were my joints.

Ouch!! Yes, he is definitely missed on the music scene. The last time I saw him was many years ago at his concert at the Fox. I enjoyed myself, then. I hope they add a second show for November.
And don’t sleep on Jazmine’s talent. She’s a beast…

He sucked 7 years ago, hasn’t done anything since, and still he gets a blog?
He should be playing at a Mexican restuarant for tips.

Maxwell is a great artist & asking BET audience 2 show him some love definitely wasn’t taking anything away from the legendary Mr. Al Green. I guess it all depends on one’s perspective!! He hadn’t been around N a very long time & was just asking the audience 2 simply show him some love. I never heard the song “Simply Beautiful” performed b4 by Al Green so I had nothing to compare it to but glad Maxwell did it his way!! Noone & I mean NOONE can do it like Al Green so it was best he did it the way he did. I’m so glad he is back & 4 those who think he is not talented…………..What R U listening 2 these days!! He is one of the best ones around!! Such a GENTLEMAN!!!!

i’m sorry, i don’t know anything about him. all he is to me is a pretty face. my cuzzo loves him. i promise … i will download his tunes this week and vibe to get a feel of where he’s comin’ from. at this moment, i wouldn’t pay a dime to see him swoon a room full of screaming women. lol. i would only sit through that for new edition!
i hope you ladies have fun. and don’t forget to throw the panties on the stage. lol.

I saw this tribute to Al Green, and I didn’t know who that was. I thought it was a new artist, or a rapper trying to do something else that night. I thought it was great, and he looked so sexy. I liked the way he swaggerd on stage in that suit and sneakers. No one can do Al Greens’ songs the way he can, but that night Maxwell came real close. I liked him when he was on the scene, and wondered what had happened to him. I hope someone signs him up to a record deal so that we can listen to his sounds again. It will be a welcomed change.
