Young Jeezy and T.I. Have The No. 1 Album and Single in the Country

l46053uauiz.jpg<

This week’s Billboard magazine numbers are in and Atlanta rappers have the biggest album and single in the country.

Young Jeezy’s third disc “The Recession” (CD cover above) sold 260,000 copies its first week in stores, according to Nielsen SoundScan — and debuts atop the Billboard 200 pop chart. And for the third week in a row, T.I.’s single “Whatever You Like” is No. 1 on the publication’s Hot 100 pop chart. (As well as the Hot Digital Song chart, again).

As far as other locals on other listings go, last week’s No. 2 debut on the Gospel Album chart — Darwin Hobbs’ “Free” — remains in the Top 10 this week, at No. 9.

The Lost Trailers — which includes Atlanta resident Ryder Lee — hold a Top 10 position on the Hot Country Songs chart another week (No. 10) with “Holler Back”; and while their CD of the same name dropped out of the first 10 on the Top Country Albums chart, superstar country duo Sugarland climbed back to No. 1 there, from 2 last week. (Though they lost their Top 10 position on The Top 200 — last week, No. 8 — with its new album “Love On The Inside”.)

Atlantans moved from making up half of the Top 10 R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, to six of the 10 — T.I.’s still at No. 2 with “Whatever You Like”; T-Pain moved up three places to No. 4 with “Can’t Believe It” (featuring Lil Wayne); Young Jeezy dropped two places to No. 5 with “Put On” (featuring Kanye West); Bobby Valentino is on the No. 6 single by Lil Wayne, “Mrs. Officer”; Ne-Yo jumped seven places to No. 9 with Miss Independent”; and Keyshia Cole fell from No. 5 to No. 10 with “Heaven Sent”.

And for another week, Atlantans hold tight to 7 of the Top 10 Hot Rap Tracks: Young Jeezy’s “Put On” is at No. 1 again; T-Pain (on Lil Wayne’s “Got Money”) at No. 3; T.I.’s “Whatever You Like” at No. 5; Yung Berg’s “The Business” at No. 6; Akon’s single with Kardinal Offishall, “Dangerous”, is at No. 8; Bobby Valentino and Lil Wayne’s “Mrs. Officer” are at No. 9 and Ne-Yo (on Plies’ “Bust It Baby Part 2”) are at No. 10.

No changes in those positions.

Young Jeezy’s “The Recession” also tops the Top 10 of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart — which Atlantans Nas (“Untitled”), last week at No. 6 and Lloyd (“Lessons In Love”), last week at No. 8, dropped out of; and Young Jeezy, again, (at No. 1) and Nas (No. 7) make up the hometown presence on the Top 10 Rap Albums chart.

Third Day’s “Revelation” fell from No. 1 to No. 3 of the Top Christian Albums (as well as from No. 1 to No. 3 of the Top Christian & Gospel Albums); but McDonough’s Casting Crowns have the No. 8 and No. 9 CDs there with “The Altar and the Door: Live” and “The Altar and the Door”.

And back to the Hot 100, still in the Top 10 with T.I. are Atlanta rapper-singer Akon (“Dangerous” with Kardinal Offishall, holding at No. 6) and Mableton’s own R&B singer-songwriter, Ne-Yo (with “Closer”, also in the same position as last week, No. 8).

Did you buy “The Recession” or any of the other best-sellers mentioned? And if so, give us your grade.

WHAT A THUG! How does anyone like this loser? What a great person. Are there any “rappers” out there that are good people? All they do is carry guns, get arrested, shoot people, get in fights, etc. Funny how with country singers you never see things like that. Kanye West got arrested too. Nice work roll models.

That should be “role models.” Get an education before you try to talk about someone. Dummy.

chris: there are alot of people in all entertainment genres that do different things that are bad and good. Not all rappers are thugs and to me a ROLE model should start within the home. If you want your children to have ROLE models be one yourself (then again if I were to judge by your comment, I would say allow your kids to find another). Do not wait for anyone else to be the person your children look up to. These people are paid to ENTERTAIN not be an idol for your children. A thug comes in any race seems to me more and more people are using this word to equate to the infamous N word. Besides, if this despises you so much why read the article?

ooops…forgot to actually comment on the question that is RELEVANT!! I’ve only heard comments on jeezy’s album. Admittedly I do not care for rap music enough to purchase it, but I say congratulations to all of the people for their achievements in all of their fields

Itamazesme, you make some very relavant points in your first post. And Chris, regarding Kanye’s arrest today for a little squabble w/ the media, why don’t you check out TMZ.com if you’ve never heard non-rapping actors and singers having problems w/ the papparazzi and getting into fights.

But back to the story, this is Jeezy’s worst album. I enjoyed his first three (including the Gangsta Grill mixtape), but he seems as though he put this together overnight. Half of the beats sound the same. Given the title “the recession”, I thought he was going to show some growth and use this album to talk about something more than how much dope he sold, how he was in the trap, how many yello lambos he has, blah, blah, blah. I was wrong.

How funny is it that T.I. has a top song called whatever you like and his babymoma has to sue him for child support. Now that is irony. He is a millionaire and only gives the mother of his children $2000 a month? Is this the same guy that is always talking about giving back to the community and helping others and he treats his own kids mother like a welfare case? She is going to get a raise big time and there is nothing he can do about it. Actually the only thing he could do about it is try to get custody of the kids to keep from paying her, but considering his criminal record that isn’t likely. Wow, I just checked a web child support calculator for Georgia that said if his yearly income was one million a year he would owe her between 23,000 and 28,000 a month for 2 kids.

John, you have toooo much free time if your researching how much he should owe his childs mother. I personally think $2000 is enough for 2 kids. I dont care how much money you make. The money is for his kids. How much of that $2000 are they actually going to see? NONE. She is trying to sit at home on her azz and he does not need to support that by giving her more money. Im sure he pays for all of their clothes, toys, etc etc that they want. . SHE NEEDS NOTHING MORE. Child support needs to remain Child support and not My KIDS Mother support. . She needs to get a job and maintain one like these single mothers out here that are doing quite well without $2000 a month

john… you are an idiot. who could reasonably say that 2000 a month isnt enough raise a child? even 2?
you saying he is tyring to make her a “welfare case” only shows your hidden rasism. cracka ass cracka

I agree with 95chevy and Pat… 2000 is plenty for two kids especially if the payments are on time and consistent. There are single mothers out there that raise kids with less than that and get by. If T.I.’s baby momma is working at a decent job as well (fat chance but if she is), she should sitting fairly well for herself and her kids.

T.I. is going to get taken to the bank by these women whom had his kids. Complain all you want, and yes you can easily raise a kid on $2000 dollars a month, but the judge is going to give her a percentage of his earnings that is way more than $2000 a month. He will be lucky if his current girlfriend whom he has two kids with doesn’t leave him and run to the judge after she sees the payout this lady will get monthly.

I actually bought Jezzy’s CD the day it came out and I like several songs on the CD. I like the bass songs, going back to the roots where we use to ride and bump down the street. You cant knock the man for talking about what he knows and is use to, to me he is keeping it “real”. As for T.I. its sad that his baby momma wants to milk him. Im a single parent and I would be thankful for a $2000 a month CP ck on the regular. I would live IN my means and make use of that money.

Congrats to Jeezy.. glad to see his project successful. I like rap, but I can get easily bored with it also… the beats on this one are real catchy which makes you want to listen more.

As for T.I, his sons’ mother is asking for more money only because of the success he is having with his career. What wasn’t mention in the article is that his boys, who are with him the majority of the time, have their own room, clothes, toys, etc at his house as well. These boys are not living in squalor. Unfortunately, Mom wants more money so she can enhance her quality of life standards. There is not much more these boys need that they dont have at Dad’s house. Its sad that sometimes women will use the kids to get more for themselves versus making a stable argument to enhance the quality of life for their children. But as you know, money brings out the best in everyone…jez my thoughts, cause its Jez Me.

Funny how we demand/expect more from entertainers than we do of our parents, politicians and clergy. Take a closer look. They are not role models! At least they don’t claim to be - unlike some others.

First of all, 95chevy and Pat when was the last time you looked how much child card cost? The minimum for one child is around $800-$1000, so if she has two kids…you do the math. All the money that dillweed spends on drugs, guns, lawyers, bonds, more drugs, and more lawyers should be going to his kids. It’s typical of the men in the black community to forget their responsibilities and this is coming from an educated black man. I never got into hip-hop or rap because its just basically a poor excuse for music and it goes nowhere. All the rap artist are thugs and the majority of them have a police record, so what does that teach our children. That its okay to get in trouble because its what our idols do. Hopefully, when McCain becomes president he will ban all rap and hiphop music and make the inner city kids learn to be more responsible and find better role models. I look forward to watching the news about jeezy and T.I. getting put in jail or not paying child support. Has any of these people heard of birth control…DAMN!

You sound like a really prro excuse for a Black Man. For you to negatively slander these guys and actually say you speak for Black people is a joke.

I am also a educated Black person, and your statments sounds like those of a true idiot.

Bigboom NY…you are the biggest idiot on this blog. Just like John Gotti said “rap is crap”. It is and it will always be associated with thugs. RIP is correct, just like Bill Cosby is correct about his own race. Stop putting blame on others when you are the one in charge of yourself. This “music” is nothing but negative and it only leads to everything TI and all the others have going against them. Uneducated, wannabe thugs, dead beat dads, felons, no talent, racists, who support the least experienced man in the world to be president or even my secretary. Also, I doubt you are much of a educated man considering you are talking positive words for this kind of entertainment. Take your GED and use it to something a little more usefull and clean my toilet. :) That’s how I roll! I hope she takes all his money before the gov’t does. McCain for prez…send Osama back where he came from.

Rap sucks. McCain, the old, sleezy has been, swallows.

I’m a musician and the content of the rap songs is not offensive to me as a white 20 something…it’s just boring.

I get it. You had a hard life on the streets. You’re rough, tough, and don’t back down. You go through girls like babies go through diapers.

Listening to rap insults my intelligence as a human and it insults real musicians who actually have talent.
