Isaac Hayes public service on Monday
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
You can pay your respects to one-time Atlantan — and music legend, forever — Isaac Hayes Monday in Cordova, TN. .
The 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. service will be held at Hope Presbyterian Church (8500 Walnut Grove).
With the announcement of the public service, Hayes’ family issued this statement: “We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and love from Isaac’s dear friends, colleagues and fans from every corner of the world, and we thank each and every one of them for their kind thoughts and prayers. While he was an iconic figure to many, to us he was husband, father and friend. We will ever miss his love, wisdom, humor and the familiar comfort of his voice.”
And in lieu of flowers, they ask that donations be sent to the Stax Music Academy in Memphis, made out to: Soulsville, 926 E. McLemore Avenue, Memphis, TN 38106. And please specify “In memory of Isaac Hayes,” they add.
Meanwhile, Sirius XM Radio has announced it will broadcast a tribute to Hayes on its Totally ’70s channel (Channel 7) tomorrow at 7 a.m. ET. (And “A Final Visit From Isaac Hayes” will be rebroadcast at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. that same day).
And again, cards and condolences to Hayes’ Atlanta-based son, Isaac Hayes III (above, with dad) can be sent to the address below:
Isaac Hayes III c/o Jo Blo Entertainment P.O. Box 18900 Atlanta, GA 31126
(Isaac III’s really interesting blog - where he is also known as the producer, Ike Dirty) can be found HERE.
General condolences to the family can be sent to message@isaachayes.com.
And of course, again, the Atlanta Music Scene blog welcomes your memories of Hayes and his music.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences. The music industry has lost an icon. May your memories comfort you during Issac’s absence. Because Jehovah God has promised to resurrect our loved ones, and we will have eternity to spend with them (John 5:28,29; Psalms 37).

I remember Black Moses in the sixties and Mr. Isaac Hayes will be missed. May you his family and friends find consolation in knowing that weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning and to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. I pray for your strength in the Lord.

The two men who I truly loved were Barry White and Issac Hayes. I loved both of their voices. I was truly hurt when I heard that Issac had died. I was in shock when I heard about Bernie Mac, then one day later, I hear about Issac. We will miss you, Issac. I have all of your music. There are certain songs that you hear and begin to think back where you were when you heard it. I remember “I Stand Accused” and where I was when I first heard the song. God is making a good choir in heaven with legendaries that we no longer can hear, but we will always hold love in our hearts for them. Thanks to his family for sharing Issac Hayes with us for 65 years.

he was the maestro of african-american funk and soul music, as the late barry white was in his own respective genre of r & b soul. his theme from shaft is without a doubt the front-runner to black music that led zeppelin’s stairway to heaven is to rock and roll, and both will probably retain their positions from now on.

ISAAC HAYES was THE MAN when it came to music. I have ALL of his ALBUMS! I LOVED ISAAC HAYES! He will be missed by the entire world. My heartfelt sympathy goses out to his entire family. I cried for Isaac when i heard he had passed away. There wasn’t a song by Mr Hayes that i didn’t like. He had extraordinary intellectual musical powers. May GOD Bless and keep you all strong during this time of sadness. To his wife and children,my prayers are with you and Stay The Faith.

When I heard of Isaac Hayes death my heart was broken. First of all I thought of my father who was a big fan of Hayes. Growing up in the 70s my dad and I listened to all of his music.I know that if my dad was still here with us he would be heartbroken as well. Isaac Hayes was a beautiful musician, songwriter and he had the most beautiful sexy voice ever. I still enjoy his music. The music world has lost such a wonderful entertainer I send my condolences to his family. May God Be With Them

They said as you get older, you lose more friends and loved ones but they didn’t say you would get used to it or that it wouldn’t hurt as much. To lose such an icon as Issac, hurts deeply. His “Shaft” will memorize him forever but having him on this earth was a wonderful blessing. My prayers to all of his children and loved ones. Always know that you come from “the man” and make him proud as he has made us proud to be blessed enough to live in his era to hear his gifts of music and love to fans such as I. He was and will always be “The Man..Shaft”.

I loved ISAAC, I play his music right to this day. I still have his 45’s. My favorite Do Your Thang. I attended his concerts and he was always GREAT. I used to see him jogging in the mornings, I would be on the bus, and I would open my window and he would always wave. To the family may God bless all of you, and THANK YOU for sharing ISAAC. Isaac music will forever live on.

I had a chance to meet Mr. Hayes at a NBPC event in New Orleans in 1995. He was a very nice man who enjoyed his music. It was a privilage and a honor to be graced by his presence and knowledge on that night. We talked about the craft of music at that time and where it was headed. I was blown away by his show and it will be instilled in my memories. He’s been an influence in my own music. He will be greatfully missed. So RIP brother.
