Lloyd The Top Debut Of The Week
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Atlanta R&B singer Lloyd will have the top debut on the charts next week.
But in terms of sales the past seven days, it didn’t beat — what year is this again? — ABBA.
That’s right — according to the Nielsen SoundScan figures for Billboard magazine, the “Mama Mia!” soundtrack featuring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan singing ABBA hits will top its Billboard 200 pop chart, selling 130,000 copies this past week.
Atlanta country supergroup Sugarland’s “Love On The Inside” drops from 1 to No. 3 on the Top 200, moving 91,000 copies — a 47% sales slide; while Lloyd’s “Lessons In Love” will bow at No. 7, with 51,000 units, making it the biggest seller of all of the other news CDs that debuted last Tuesday.
(Lloyd’s last CD, “Street Love”, entered the charts at No. 2, with 144,000).
Meanwhile, did you pick up “Lessons In Love” — and if so, what’s your take? Same question about the “Mama Mia!” soundtrack. Think ABBA could be coaxed into a comeback?
