The Outlawz Ride Again

Almost 12 years after legendary rapper Tupac Shakur was killed, and about the same amount of time since their big single (“Hit ‘Em Up”) with him, Atlanta-based hip-hop group Outlawz continue to be as prolific as the late superstar.
ThursdayAUG 7/SYM at 5 pm. at the FYE store at Union Station (still known to many as Shannon Mall), the foursome will be signing their new independent CD “We Want In,” which was released this week.“We’ll be reintroducing ourselves to the fans, and introducing ourselves to the people who may not know independent projects are out, because they don’t get the same TV and radio commercials that an artist signed to a major label gets,” says the Outlawz’ E.D.I. Mean.
“That’s OK though,” continues Mean — whose remaining group members are named (surely you wondered!): Kastro, Stormey and Young Noble. “Everyone has to reestablish themselves in this industry. Even Jay-Z can’t just put out a record and expect people to buy it, without laying the groundwork…The good thing is we have so many hardcore fans that have been rooting for us. That’s how we’ve put out close to 15 independent projects since Tupac (who was also a part of the Outlawz) died. People may know us best because of him, but they stay with us because of what we’ve done since he left.”
