So So Def Summerfest, Successful?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
What Jermaine Dupri told us he’d like to see become an Essence Music Festival in Atlanta, certainly drew the kind of major names that headline New Orleans’ annual celebration.
But because of a shooting Friday night at Club Dreams, it also drew major — and certainly, unwanted — attention.
No suspects have been arrested yet, and the victim — a security guard —was reportedly treated for an injury to his arm, and released.
Dekalb County police spokesman Marcus Hodge told WSB-TV that some people got upset after they learned they were allegedly double-charged by security guards to enter the VIP section of the club.
Question: Why do you think people pay any amount just to stand in closer proximity to celebrities? (Usher, Diddy - being rushed out, above - Nelly, Dupri and actresses Gabrielle Union and Lisa Raye were at Dreams, the second “official” event of Dupri’s five-day-long, third annual So So Def Summerfest. He and Nelly hosted a “strip-off” Wednesday at the Body Tap, which was not listed on Dupri’s site as an “official” Summerfest activity ).
Were you at Dreams Friday night, and/or did you attend any of the Summerfest events that followed: the celebrity basketball game at Morehouse (where Dupri is pictured above, see our entire gallery HERE ), the White Party at the Woodruff Arts Center and the finale scheduled last night at the Velvet Room?

it was a great show. the upper deck was curtained off, making the arena appear full.

I attended the White Party at the Woodruff Arts center. It was just ok. I think the events are overpriced just for people to stand around and look at celebrities. the VIP was upstairs and I was in the VIP and I didnt see Gabrielle Union or any of the other celebrities that were listed to host the event. but after the shooting Friday nite they probably decided not to attend. for fear of their lives. They were charging an additional $40 to enter the VIP section and people were actually paying that for some dumb reason. Like I said it was ok but I don’t think I’ll attend next year.

After attending the White Party, I have officially given up on Atlanta..Lil Jon should not be allowed to DJ at grown folks parties. The men were not in attendance. Felt sorry for the people who paid $80 to look down on the floor of attendees unable to dance, due to poor DJ’ing skills. Pure stip club music and women dressed like they just got off the pole. Where has all the classy people gone? New show on Bravo correct depicting who is out there…..Nothing.

A shooting at a all black event. NO WAY! What do you expect to happen when you get all those low life pieces of **it in one place? EXACTLY! It’s sad to see that these people are actually idols to youth and adults today. It’s just another black eye on Atlanta. No more NBA All-Star, Essence, BET, Hip-Hop Award etc events in Atlanta. Those events are making Atlanta look more and more like South Central LA…THUGS and GANGSTERS ONLY! I think McCain said that when he becomes president he will eliminate all those events from happening inside the US and ban all hip-hop music. Thank God! Too bad Obama wasn’t there, it would have been all the better.
