Sugarland rides high with new album

Already on a roll, Sugarland just got even more good news to celebrate. The Atlanta duo scored the year’s biggest first-week sales for a country act.

The deluxe, expanded fan edition of “Love on the Inside” debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, just behind tween phenom Miley Cyrus and her new album, “Breakout.” Nielsen SoundScan reports Cyrus’ sales at 371,000 for the week, with Sugarland right behind at nearly 314,000.

Sugarland’s number was more than enough to put the pair at the top of the country album chart, making it the duo’s first No. 1 there.

Billboard reports that Sugarland’s feat is also “the best sales week for any country act since the Eagles’ “Long Road Out of Eden” shifted 359,000 in its second week of release last fall.” Billboard also points out that this is “easily the Mercury Nashville act’s best sales week and highest charting album ever.”

In a press release from the band’s label, Sugarland’s Kristian Bush (right) had this to say: “This is amazing! I love this album and am heartened that there are hundreds of thousands who feel the same way. I also couldn’t be more proud of our management and label. They are picking the towel back up that most of the music business threw in already. Today is a good day.”

For more from Avondale Estates resident Bush, check out the Q&A I did with him just before the album’s release. It’s here.

The regular edition of “Love on the Inside” was released Tuesday, July 29, and the totals for that will be added to sales of the fan edition for the rankings on next week’s chart.

Were you among the 314,000 picking up the new album? If so, tell us what you think of “Love on the Inside.” Is it Sugarland’s best yet?

lol, I have to agree with Rusty. There are a couple of ok songs, if you can get past the sound of someone steping on the cats tail.

Great CD! I bought the Fan Delux Edition or whatever it’s called and LOVE it. Sugarland is what country music needs. Please, no more pre-packaged blonds with big hooters and no talent or washed-up post stars posing as country singers. Actually my least favorite song is the current single, but the rest of the CD is pure gold. This CD is almost as good as their debut and I think better than their second one. I haven’t taken it out of my CD player since I bought it last week.

And if you’re looking for some undiscovered talent, Google Vitoria Banks or check her out on MySpace. Brilliant song writer (has written a bunch of hits for other artists) and a great singer in her own right. Her self-produced CDs is one of my favorites ever.

I agree with markscott… the current single is my least favorite on the CD, but I love the CD. AND I think it’s a million times better than their second CD.

Rusty; you obviously have no taste in music. Jennifer Nettles’ voice is absolutely incredible. A true powerhouse voice that could knock down walls. I rank her up there with such truly great vocalists as Natalie Maines, Trisha Yearwood, Patsy Cline & Wynonna Judd. As an added bonus, she actually enunciates which makes her even better.

You just keep on listening to lesser talented artists and leave the good ones to the rest of us.

Hellbent, I really thought you were serious until you rattled off Natalie Maines.LOL “Goodbye Erlllllllllll! Bllaahh!

I love this album. I downloaded the deluxe version from iTunes last week and have listened to it no less than 50 times. The bonus tracks are some of the best tracks on the album. 2 thumbs up from me!

Rusty; Again you show your ignorance. “Goodbye Earl” was one song. Try listening to the entire Dixie Chicks catalog of music. BTW, it was supposed to be tongue in cheek. I guess that was lost on you.

Hellbent, Sorry Pardner, how’s expressing my opinion showing my ignorance? We’re talking about twangy country twits here not rocket science. You sound frustrated buddy,go home and beat your wife some more.

I just listened to the deluxe edition. I agree with Hellbent that Jennifer has the type of voice that rivals Trisha and the rest. Whole lot of energy.

Obviously, Rusty and T would rather listen to Yoko Ono do a primal scream if they think Jennifer’s voice sounds like a cat’s cry.

I love Sugarland..She has a great voice..Hellbent, I agree with your choices..I don’t really care for The Dixie Chicks, Natalie does have a good voice..No, I didn’t like them before they made their speach..I would have to add to your list though, Loretta Lynn..I know that she’s been around a long time, but I still love to hear her sing..

First off, I have to say that I am a HUGE Sugarland fan, and this album is their best work yet! I LOVE the entire album. My faves are Fall Into Me, It Happens, Joey, Steve Earl, and oh gosh, all of them but What I’d Give.

Second- Rusty, I don’t care if this is a free country, your comments referring to Jennifer’s voice are downright rude! I mean, for you to say “someone please put that wounded animal out of its misery”? What the heck is wrong with you? How dare you call Jennifer a “wounded” anything, much less an ANIMAL! I don’t have enough words to describe my disgust, but I will say this: Be lucky that I am deciding not to sick the entire rest of the Sugarland fan club on you, or you would be sorry. I suggest that next time, you think before you speak. You have no right whatsoever to bring Jennifer down like that and make fun of her incredible talent. Do us all a favor and keep the rude crap to yourself, because no REAL Sugarland fan wants to hear it! Have I made my point?

Rusty, how dare you say something like that about Jennifer. Why would you say something like that?! How would you like it if someone said that about you and your music, especially if it’s something you love. If anyone should be put out of their misery it should be you. Jennifer has one of the best voices out there. Whether you believe it or not is up to you, but keep your nasty comments to yourself. You are a rude, ignorant person who obviously has no life if you come on here just to bash Jennifer and Sugarland. Jennifer is amazing, as is Sugarland! There are people here who personally know and love Jennifer. You are just jealous of the success Sugarland is having. Someday these unkind words will come back and bit you in the butt and look you’ll be laughing! Get a life, really, please do! The more you shut up, the better for everyone!

Ok, that does it. Rusty, I am DISGUSTED with you right now! You have no right to diss Jennifer like you did! I don’t care if this is a god damn free country! What you said was over the line! To call Jennifer an animal is downright, ugh I don’t have a good enough word. I understand that her twang might not sit well with some people, but to say “someone please put that wounded animal out of its misery”? You are lucky I don’t stick the entire rest of the Sugarland fan club on you! I don’t know what the hell your deal is, but you just pushed my button too far. And calling her a clown was your biggest mistake. Oh wait, no it wasn’t. Calling her a wounded animal was! I don’t have enough words to express how disgusted I am with you right now. You must be freakin tone deaf. Do us REAL Sugarland fans a favor and keep your s** to yourself, cause we don’t want to hear it. Do I make myself clear?! God, some people don’t know the meaning of the word nice.

Great CD, TERRIBLE first single off it!! WORST SONG ON THE CD!! “All I Wanna Do” is BAAAAAAADDD, but the rest of the cd is pretty amazing! Especially, “Steve Earle”, “Take Me As I Am”, “Already Gone” and “It Happens”. The only song I would have liked them to put on was “Irreplaceable”.
