Jill Scott At Chastain
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

As Jill Scott looked out into the capacity audience Wednesday night, she might have thought Chastain Park Amphitheatre was about to take flight, there were so many fans, fanning.
It was that hot. And the three-time Grammy Award winner didn’t make things any easier.
In her near two-hour performance, Scott simulated some pretty suggestive sexual moves with microphone; made things even steamier when she let the three background singers in her 10-piece band show off their pipes on the Isley Brothers’ “Between the Sheets,” Teena Marie’s “Portugese Love” and Prince’s “Do Me Baby”; and sent the kettle to boil when the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra rejoined her for the, first, operatic, then dance remix take on her early hit “He Loves Me (Lyzel In E Flat)”.
“Every time I’ve come to Atlanta it”s looked like this, and it’s felt like this,” Scott told the panting, but still-enthusiastic audience that included fellow R&B singer Anthony David, rapper Bone Crusher, V-103 radio personality Ryan Cameron and renowned minister, author, professor and cultural critic Michael Eric Dyson. “And I love it!”
Were you there last night — and if so, what did you think? (See more photos from the gallery HERE ) To the real Jill Scott fans, how would you compare it to her show earlier this year at the Fox, or the more intimate Bailey’s event at the Freight Depot? And did you read the earlier Atlanta Music Scene post about her considering becoming Atlantan (among many other things)?

This was a HOT concert and I don’t mean just weather wise. She put on a show and the scene at Chastain made it even better. I love Jill Scott and would go see her over and over again. :-)

Jill was awesome,….all 25 mins I got to see her. I had never been to Chastain before and will never return. I spent 1 1/2 hours driving around the ampitheater in circles being told to go here and there to park, only to be told something else once I got there. What an awful experience.
No beef with Jill though, she was excellent!

I was there, took a pic with Bone Crusher. The concert was hot! I loved, loved, loved Jill. Chastain is my favorite venue so I’m pretty happy with whoever’s there, rain or sun, but since I’m a true Jilly from Philly fan I was in heaven. One of my friends said that the line (of talent) between the star and the backup singers was blurred and I responded that I admire Jill for being confident enough to showcase them. She’s great!

To David Powell I was sitting next to the table that had the chairs still on top of it, they got to the show late and didn’t make it until mid-show . In otherwords, Jill WAS sold out and she will always sell out because she’s talented, professional, and humble. A true Diva.

With the exception of a FEW seats in the last 2-3 rows that opened up that day, the show was definitely considered to be sold out. I only know that because I sold the tickets:-) Many people showed up late though, but late or not, they saw a fantastic show. She is and was amazing!

Jill definitely sold out and there were many people circling the venue with me. These pictures show before everyone got to their seats.

I hate that I missed her. I knew the show would be great. On Chastain, you just learn to get there a little early, come to the venue via Powers Ferry. Less traffic and the parking is right there.

I was at the show. Jill was absolutely FABULOUS. My friends and I were on the floor. The Venue was sold out, no doubt. Quite a few people were late. Two members of my party was stuck in traffic and missed nearly 40 minutes of her set. Advice on seeing a performance at Chastain: Leave home early.

What can I say? Jill was MAGNIFICENT; WONDERFUL!!!! I’ve been trying to attend one of her shows for years and have never seen her perform live. But I’ll be there everytime she opens her mouth in HotAtlanta from now on. Sang every song even though she didn’t need any help from me. This was my first time at Chastain and the tickets were a birthday present for my oldest daughter. We are also big Anthony David fans and were quite surprised and happy that he was the opening act. But Jill’s a true poetress, songtress and beautiful sista’. And she sang Crown Royal! Yum!! Oh Yeah….Thanks for the fans House of Payne.
