Athens’ beloved jam-rockers Widespread Panic (above), Grammy-winning rapper-actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, deejay Hamp Swain, renowned guitar makers Fred & Dinah Gretsch, R&B’s begging singer/syndicated radio personality Keith Sweat and the late Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Dottie Rambo will all be inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame this year, it was announced this afternoon.
The 30th annual awards show will be held Sept. 20 at the Georgia World Congress Center. WSB-TV news anchor Monica Pearson and onetime, longtime Atlanta radio personality Leslie Fram will return as co-hosts.
Tickets for the reception, dinner and awards ceremony range from $75 to $100 for an individual ticket, to $750 or $1,000 for tables of ten. They are available by calling the Friends of Georgia Music Festival, Inc. at 770-491-9494 ext 15. And it will be broadcast live at 8:30 p.m. on GPB-TV Channel 8.
Have you caught the show in the past, when, say Usher or Lynyrd Skynyrd or R.E.M. were inducted? Ever been down to the actual hall in Macon - and if so, what did you think? Surprised that an artist that goes by the name Ludacris is getting such an honor?

What a diverse group of musicians being inducted into the GMHoF…so cool! Although Im not a Ludacris fan, I appreciate all that he has done and I appreciate his talent.
And as far as Widespread Panic goes…its about darn time!!!! It goes to prove that you can be really successful without having radio support. And those guys can certainly JAM!
I don’t think the GWCC ballroom will ever again be filled with so much mary jane smoke!!!!

Too bad the ceremony is going to be in ATL and not in Macon where the Hall of Fame is located.
It appears that the powers that be want to have the Hall fail in Macon.
“King Bee” Hamp Swain is from Macon and what a thrill it would be to him to be inducted in his home town.
Macon is where he helped Little Richard (also from Macon), Otis Redding (ALSO from Macon) and James Brown launch their careers.

You’re 100% correct MaconItHappen. The awards show NEEDS to be in Macon where the Hall of Fame is! The people of Macon cannot be expected to support two halls of fame if the Directing Boards of both do not feel the need to even have the award events in the city where the halls are located.

They should move the GA Music Hall of Fame to Atlanta. Instead of 40,000 visitors per year, they would get over 500,000.

Congratulations and thanks to the award’s committee for selecting deejay Hamp Swain,”King Bee”, of Macon, Ga for this honor and tribute in recognition of his contributions to the field of music.
During his career he was greatly instrumental in inspiring and supporting many artist who otherwise would have remained unknown.
He played a pivotal role in helping to launch the careers of many supremely talented performers including Little Richard, Otis Redding, of Macon,Ga and the Late Great James Brown,The God Father of Soul.

Hamp Swain,”King Bee” is the quintessential deejay, a musical genius in his own right whose seminal influence on music is apparent today; noted by the prominent sampling of music done by artist he inspired, guided and helped promote.
This influence has transcended generations and musical boundaries and lots of people owe him a debt.
Many thanks to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame for this opportunity to pay homage to the King!
Congratulations King Bee, I salute you!
