Rate Young Jeezy’s “Put On” Video

jeezy2.0928lv.JPG

Rarely has a “Recession” been this anticipated.

But with Atlanta rapper-entrepreneur Young Jeezy currently on his first Vibe cover, and another appearance on XXL heading to stands as this is typed, interest is only building in his September release, “The Recession.”

And now that its first single, “Put On,” featuring Kanye West, has rocketed to the Top 10 of Billboard’s rap and R&B/hip-hop charts, Young Jeezy has finally released a video this week.

Watch it BELOW, and give us your take.

And while we’re thinking Jeezy, see excerpts from his appearance at Hot-107.9’s most recent Birthday Bash, with Usher and West HERE.

Dear Ms. Murray,

Figures the sorry-azz AJC would give us Jeezy’s new generic video to “rate”. I wonder if you have heard of another ATL-based rapper named Killer Mike (who is not exactly unknown having done collaborations with Outkast in the past) who just put out a near-classic album with an outstanding video featuring Ice Cube. Will that get promoted by the AJC? I doubt it…

I liked the song a lot til I saw the video. Now it kinda ok to me. IMO Kenya’s part just brought the whole thing down. His sound during the rap was good but he could have done something more than just stand there like he was in pain or something.

I fully agree with Najeh Davenpoop. I must admit I like the song and the video is cool but the images don’t correlate with the lyrics. Check out the killer Mike and Ice Cube video and you’ll see the difference.

To the person who wants Killer Mike video put up. That’s going to suck just as much as this did. I don’t need to watch more video’s of misguided blacks and the music that apparently makes them happy. Its why black america is in such ruins. The black youth want to live like rappers, who are nothing less than wantabe criminals and most likely have a criminal record or are on their way to getting one. If the lyrics that Steverino put up are true…that’s just absolutely sad. I hope when McCain becomes President, he makes all rap/hip-hop music 21 and older and if anyone younger found with that crap is convicted of a felony and put into prison. It’s basically ghetto prison music as it is now. Also, it can only be sold via the internet with a massive shipping fee. Anything to keep that from hitting the ears of normal people with an actual taste for music. Also, shut down the racist radio station of V103. Go McCain and Young Jeezy and Killer Mike can all go and get a real job. Damn…they both suck!

thugz! Why allow such hate to breed.Trim this man like a dog in the pound before letting him be adopted. The Ma’s songs are sending thugs into family’s homes shooting black on black crime. This type man should be inprisoned for such hatred songs! A man of such status should be taught hate and guns and songs of such hate fills the streets with more outlaws looking to kill to become famous. We hope he keeps making this type music for vacant housing is becoming more plentiful in the hood and the more killing in our streets the more vacany’s our younger NON thugs can have. Thanks for killing black on black! Keep up the rappen!

everyone lives a different life and we can judge the video but only God can judge people. I like Jeezy, very talented and went through more than most of the people blogging. Dont know him personally but life was not easy for him. So get a life and be happy that the world belongs to “yall” and be grateful that your skin doesnt speak for you. Peace and love to all.

Rap isn’t the same, there are decent rappers out there but its all about the media and commercialization, of course positive rap won’t be put out in the mainstream because what white person wants a positive speaking black person encouraging their people. I choose not to listen to alot of this rap because alot of it doesn’t have meaning. I don’t listen to country or rock and roll either because I have a choice. Obviously you disgruntled whites want to listen to it. Nobody made you watch that video so why all the negativity? Thats what I don’t understand about certain white people and I say certain because I’m not going to categorize a few bad apples for the whole bunch like the majority of whites do. Myself, I hate Elvis, not because he is white but just hate the music, I love Michael McDonald and Michael Bolton as well as Scarface and Jay Z (rappers with meaning) If you think the music is filled with such hatred than do something about it or don’t listen to it and close your pie hole. 22yr old black male

There’s still plenty of good rap music being made, it’s just that people in the media like Sonia Murray choose to talk about songs like this one with catchy beats and mediocre lyrics instead of the many lyrically great songs that are made every year in hip hop.

The album’s called the Recession, which I realize he’s tryna touch on the current state of affairs in GA and the US in general, but his lyrics/flaunting through the video are I think in the end, the opposite of what he should’ve been going for.

No hate, its a nasty joint, but, the video doesn’t mesh at all with the message he’s TRYING to convey.

He proceeds to show the poorest blocks in ATL, shine a light on the poverty and pain yet he & USDA are seen flexing high priced jewelry, flossing thousands hanging out of their pocket and cars that the same people he’s representing for will probably never have.

If anything, I kinda look at it as a slap in the face to those he’s attempting to represent. That’s just me and THIS is coming from a Jeezy head.

Totally agree with davenpoop’s commentary lol! Killer Mike’s new album is highly flammable. (I thought he was talkin about Jeezy on dat “I’m da S#!t” song ?!?!)! I’m a fan of Kanye West and will continue to be for content purposes. Young Jeezy’s first album is a classic to me… and that’s where it stops! Why? content purposes lol! Also he’s not as clever or skilled as Jay-Z, who can definitely get away with being repetitive with his subject matter lyrically! Overall the video was not a total bore. I’ll give them credit for attempting to put a different approach on the song with it.

By subject2change

I agree with alot of the comments. The video has nothing to do with the song. The song isn’t the least bit political and I think some artist are looking to profit from the condition of society.

However most of the racist comments on here is why the Al Sharpton’s of the world still march. You want to say that things are so much better and there’s no excuse but just read some of these comments.

There’s a video out by this white lady about kissing other girls and it gets played a million times. My only point is if you deem something as negative or inappropriate, leave it at that, stop bringing race into it. Because the bottom line is alot of these people making these comments don’t care about the degredation of the black community. They just can’t understand how their country could allow these individuals that didn’t indulge in their collegiate institutions end up having more money than them……and it hurts. Now I don’t like some of the negative images either but trust me it’s for different reasons.

Coming from a Black woman here……Personally I think all the new rap music sucks and they have nothing to talk about worth listening too. I hate these wanna be hard core gansta rappers talking about all the money they have, yet sitting in front of the projects in videos showing poor black people who don’t have thing, and the only way they can seem to portray that they have money and be like these “rappers” is to stand on the corners and sell drugs. Good work my black people!! yeah right

Please let’s clarify this “hypocrite” statement. When a woman is raped or sexually aboused is she a hypocrite if she has an unfavorable outlook on men but doesn’t appreciate men having a negative outlook on women. The point being even if she’s wrong to look at men in a negative light you would have empathy. That’s just how some of the black people who have been raped of their culture, dignity, and self esteem feel. I understand that it’s tough to be white and automatically be accused of being racist but you can only destroy that perception with deeds. As long as the majority of these racist comments on here exists, the perception and reality will remain.

The video at first reminds me of how downtown atlanta used to be when i first started working the city doing cable tv. Wow talk about a flashback. But forreal people shouldnt glorify that crap, REAL MEN dont have to take advantage of others to get by in life by robbing, killing, homeinvasions, ect… No wonder blacks leave over 70% of their kids without fathers. I saw it all myself. And believe me….the projects are nothing to brag about.

Wake up people. The song and video are garbage. Is anyone listening to the lyrics? In Kanye’s part he says “I got the JESUS on the chain that don’t mean s#@*.” I don’t know about you, but as a Christian I have a serious problem with that. This type of music part of what is wrong with our society today. Tell people not to listen to this trash anymore. I am black by the way since so many of you like to make this a racial issue.

By subject2change

I’m not trying to defend the lyrics because they don’t need to be defended but I will say I have the creativity to interpret.

If you notice right before the “Jesus” comment he says “I lost the only girl int he world that knows me best”

What he’s saying about the Jesus in the chain is that everyone has those moments where it seems like just praying isn’t easing the pain. That’s why he said “when the jesus pieces can’t give me no piece, I need jsut one of Russel’s nieces. He’s saying when you get to the point where in your mind the praying isn’t working so you feel like screw it.

And I love it when people feel their opinion is validated if they mention their “black”. You should have problems with this music, rock music, R&B fornication promotion music, and sitcom fornication promotion shows, and racist people because ALL those things a part of what’s wrong with society today.

Ben, if you take Kanye’s lyric at face-value of course it sounds bad. You’re taking that one line and presenting it as Kanye’s entire meaning. Look at the line RIGHT AFTER it. Jesus piece can bring him peace. It’s just jewelry, what will it do? Jeez, stop hating just because you don’t like how ONE line sounds. And then to take that out of context and say its what’s wrong with society. If anything is wrong with society its taking things out of context.
