The Good, The Bad And The Atlantans At The BET Awards
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
As expected, Atlantans were everywhere you looked at the BET Awards last night.
They opened the live show from Los Angeles (Usher - above; and see the rest of our photo gallery HERE ), they were at the podium accepting awards (T-Pain, The Dream, OutKast, Bryan Barber) and they made surprise appearances (TLC).
Not to mention there was some Atlanta-related news that wasn’t announced to the Shrine Auditorium audience. Notice that ring on R&B singer Jill Scott’s left hand when she performed her tribute to soul pioneer Al Green? Well, her drummer Lil John Roberts — a staple on the Atlanta music scene from the Yin Yang and FunkJazz Kafe days as the lead of the Chronicle, to the Tuesday Jam happening weekly at Sugar Hill — gave it to her.
As Peach Buzz reported last month, they were walking hand-in-hand at the Fox Theatre when Scott (above; see other pictures from the BET pre-party HERE ) made a surprise appearance during the Roots/Erykah Badu show. And her reps confirmed to us that he has popped the question, and the fairly recently-divorced Scott is engaged again.
What did you notice, like or shudder at during the BET Awards? Lil Kim’s “transformation”? Maxwell’s reappearance? Lil Wayne not getting best male hip-hop artist? Kanye West deeming T-Pain a genius? Or how great it was for Alicia Keys to bring out SWV, En Vogue and TLC (above; see other photos from the red carpet HERE )?

Highlights of the show was seeing Alicia Keys bringing out bangers from the past - or rather yet blast from the past EnVogue, SWV and TLC… them girls still got it but I was mad at EnVogue for disappearing on us ……..
Usher’s performance was awful- NeYo was off the chain…..
Just how many songs are TPain and LilWayne on???????? All I can said is they are making that $$$$$$$$
But the best part of the show was Al Green - ooooooooooooooooooooo now I can see how a lot of us were concieved lol That some baby making get saved music!!
I love that Marvin Sapp’s song and the video.
The only they didnt do was a tribute for those who passed on.
BET Awards is getting better and better but I could do with some of the folks getting the urge to take 100 people up to the stage with them
Atlantans Keyisha Cole was nice
But Rhianna was very good.
It was a good day in LA!

When are the WET (White Entertainment TV) Awards? Of that’s right, we don’t have those. When is the white miss. america pagent? Oh that’s right, we don’t have that. The thugs out there always preach about “equal rights” yet they separate themselveds by having crap like this. It makes zero sense. I wonder how many shootings and fights happened at the awards show? I am sure half of the place had a gun on them. Kinda like when they go to “da club.”

It was great for Alicia keys to bring out past stars, but some of them looked and sounded horrible. T-Boz sounded like she didnt know she was performing. The ladies from SWV, shoould’ve had a different game plan for the attire, they wore. They looked WAAAAY passed their time. The only set that looked & sounded halfway decent was En Vogue

With Obama doing what he is doing in the politcal world I would expect that some things are set to change. Things such as having a separate and not equal show for awards based on race; excluding all other races but one race, black. Obama’s success should be sending signals that quota’s, race based affrimative actions are now not needed. Affirmative action should now be based on economics and allow a person of ANY race to comepete fairly, no more head starts for blacks only. Why do you deserve such special secular treatment? You’ve been affored too may freebies by now and it’s time to contribute your fair share and compete fairly and stop having your kids grow up thinking they’ll get a head start based on race. You can’t have your cake and eat it too like you’ve been doing now for far too long. Equal doesn’t mean special treatment for blacks. And please don’t come back with ” Back in the day we had no blacks on tv..” That is so in the past. We’re talking today, not back then.

^^^Ignorance at its finest!!! Moving on….The BET awards were pretty good this year, not the best, but pretty good. I escpecially liked the choices for lifetime achievment. Al Greene sounded like he was changing between the pulpit and secular at times in his ad libs at times…lol but its ok cause he still is himself and gave a good performance.

It’s a complete double standard. If it was labeled a WHITE event it would be racist. But if it’s labeled a BLACK event then it’s okay. Why does one race get to define themselves by skin color in a postive light, when another would be cast in a negative view? It makes no sense if we are all indeed the same.

Peter — let me give you a heads up since you seem SO interested…
Blacks did NOT CHOOSE to seperate. I’m not sure how old you are, but there were days of segregation when we were FORCED to open our own restaurants, theaters, hotels, banks, newspapers, etc. because we were not ALLOWED to mingle with the lily-white pure folk.
BLACK entertainment, pagents, schools, etc. were born FROM and BECAUSE of that! Those things are NEW! BET (as sordid and uncouth as it is) was born because MTV WOULDN’T play “black” music, i.e. early rap (Sugar Hill Gang, Kurtis Blow) or even R&B (Michael Jackson, Prince) or report “black news”, i.e. Ben Carson, Mae Jemison. We had to CREATE a place where our kids could turn on the TV and SEE people that looked like them. Now granted that safe haven for “black” orineted entertainment has become tainted with vulgarity and smut and has COMPLETELY strayed from its original purpose, but the reason behind its creation hasn’t changed.
The black pagents were created loooong before the first black woman won Miss America.
THINK before you rant, sir. We didn’t purposefully sit on the other side of the cafeteria. We were TOLD to sit there and white folk were upset when they realized we were making the best of it. White folk of the old days didn’t want us to have ANY happiness or prosperity. We were supposed to be miserable and poor and when we weren’t, our towns were burned (as recently as 1930) and our people were killed (Atlanta Race Riots). I lost 2 relatives to lynching (I was born in ‘43), so please don’t tell me to “get over it”.
And don’t think I’m the least bit bitter… I have a happy life. But until you know WHY separate “black” venues exist, you shouldn’t sound so hostile.

peter, there is no “white entertainment television” because for the most part they are ALL “white entertainment television”. the “e” channel is overwhelmingly white, as is “lifetime”, the “disney channel” and many other networks. same thing for the miss america pageant. how many black women are up for miss america or miss usa? black people had to create our own resources to support and encourage us because historically white people didn’t and still don’t. and i’m not normally a b.e.t. fan but i have to admit last night was the most proud i have been of b.e.t. in years.

Wow - so many people who blog on these boards are so bitter that black people have something… anything of their own!
First you didn’t want us, cast us aside, didn’t want us near you… now you wonder why we’re creating our own things. Disclaimer: please read my first post! I’m just as disgusted with BET as you are — I don’t watch it OR those sorry excuses for minstrel shows they call reality shows on VH1!
And I’m sorry it was NOT “so in the past”! It was only in the “past” if you’re under the age of 40! My brothers & I have CLEAR and VIVID memories of being FORCED to ride the back of the bus in the summer and being beaten up on the way home from school and having pages torn from our school books, knowing we’d have to pay for them. I remember being called reprehensible names and being pushed in the dirt face first in my Sunday church clothes.
You can’t tell people who lived through horrible times to “get over it”. YOU get over it.

To all those that have made comments about the BET awards excluding white people. Are you stupid?? Fergi was there both Robin Thicket & Justin Timberlake has been in the past. As always your sooo quick to jump into something not having all of our info. Nobody complains when the CMT comes on and salutes ALL of artist in country. Some how forgeting there are black people in country music as well. Look it really isn’t about color it’s about who in a certain music area has released an ablum and how well it sold. Name the last white rapper or R&B singer to release a ablum, and it did well on the charts…….
I’ll even help you out Vanilla Ice and Robin Thicket.
Finally you always have the other option of turning the channel.
The BET awards was good. Ushers’ performance was awful!!

I am really shocked at the number of people who seem to be angry at us (yes I am black) for making our own, yes I totally agree that it was the past when we were segregated against and we were hardly seen. But it wasnt 20 years ago when Micheal Jackson was just the first black artist to have a video on MTV, so yes we had to express ourselves by ourselves, and yes President Obama is making history but as you can see by Peter’s post some people still think that black people are thugs and that anytime a group of us get together there will be guns and fighting, so really get over it. I am and will always be proud to see my people gather together peacefully and celebrate ourselves and our talents. While I don’t agree with every statement that hip hop makes I will support my people together united in any positive movement. And the fact that it is 2008 and we are just now electing our First Black President of The United States of America. There were white people there also, so it is not segregated we welcome all people of all races to celebrate our music (white people have adopted hip hop and our culture also) and it is very much equal, so stop it please.

Footnote to SAR, we will come back with there were no Blacks on tv back in the day because BET was created when Blacks were not represented on tv back in the day. It so happens that BET is still around and has award shows now. By the way, you must be a fool if you think that we are represented well on television now. Yeah, Blacks are sprinkled in here and there, but Blacks still get looked over for plenty of roles that they are qualified to play. So it might have been worse in the past, but there is still a ways to go. Good try though.

The BET Awards get better every year. Usher should just go have a seat, Neyo and Chris Brown have taken over, Usher does not have it anymore. Keisha Cole is my girl, but I must say her performance was awful. Alicia Keys gets much respect for sharing her performance with the ladies of yesteryear. Al Green was great, but I must say the best performance of the night was RHIANNA!!!!!!!
Someone should also tell Lil Wayne that his entire family does not need to come on stage with him everytime he wins an award……d**n

I normally don’t watch BET, or its annual awards show, but decided to watch with my husband and our two teens (and two of their visiting teen friends.) The program was typical, yet I was personally moved by Alicia Keys and her selfless performance with SWV, En Vogue and TLC. Alicia Keys has a beautiful spirit! (I only wished they had gave a R.I.P shout-out to Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopez after singing “Waterfalls”.) Of course, as “Old Skoolers”, my husband and I really got into Al Green — boy, the memories!

White people say they wonder why we can identify ourselves by skin color in a positive and they can’t. Here’s your answer: First you have you music channel(S); MTV AND CMT, we have our one channel and we’re proud of it. Don’t sit there and say that nothing happens at your drunken CMT awards. Second, you race has earned the destinction of being racists since the beginning of time, so maybe that why people would maybe see it as racist to have a WET (White Entertainment Television) channel. I could care less, I think it would be pretty funny myself, lol. White folks, you;ve done this to youselves. Start up a WET channel, who cares!!!?!

Wow, from start to finish…Usher was good, but not as great as expected…Neyo was off the chain, I love Chris and Ciara, I think she was the perfect fit for that dance routine…She was good with Nelly too, I loved him and Fergie…. Al was a classic, I’m only 28 and knew all the songs…Congrats to Jill, Maxwell has aged but the voice is still the same… Kanye and Jezzy were great, but Kanye should have not used that machine… Keyshia Cole sounded at hot mess, dang, and her dancing was awful… Rihanna was simple and great… D.L. Hugley was an awful host, he was a lil funny, I missed Monique. Marvin Sapp did great, great song… And last but not least Alicia Keys was one of the best…The orginal EnVogue? Now that was big, loved SWV and TLC too… Those are my highlights, if I missed anyone, then they probably were not that goo. Oh and I’m so sick of Diddy “happy” butt. Oh and SONIA MURRAY IS A GREAT WRITER!

Peter, in answer to your question the WET awards are also known as the Academy Awards, SAG Awards, Oscar Awards, CMT Awards, as well as MTV Awards. As for guns on half of the people there…you’ve been watching to much news! The only reason there is a BET (which is a station) thus, the BET Awards is greatly because African-Americans were not being recognized for their hard work in the previous Awards ceremonies I previously named. Therefore, being the intelligent, creative thinking people that they are, just as the Caucasions developed their own Awards for recognition(which have been held for 75 + years. BET only 8) the African Americans developed theirs. You should have enjoyed the ceremony quite well being that ALL MUSIC derived from Africa!! Including those you consider your precious own. i.e. Elvis Presley. If you don’t like it…TURN THE STATION!! That is our God given right as Americans!!! p.s. i’m as white as they come!!!!

What I liked was Marvin Sapp’s performance. Even my yet-to-be-saved husband got into it and felt the spirit. Haha!
What I didn’t like was Ciara’s overly sexual dance with Chris Brown when he on the floor facing her. Maybe it was the camera’s angle, but it looked like he they were simulating “the oral”.
Al Green, you still got it!!
Maxwell, hurry up and put out another album like your debut. We miss you, man.
Was I the only who said, “Enough, Keyshia!” when she was trying a little too hard to sing? She has a great album, but she needs to find the nearest vocal coach she can to learn about voice control and pitch.
I do have a question: I’m not trying to judge, but how are Keyshia Cole’s mama and sister “stars”? They did dress up nicely, but, hunh?

It’s so typical. Everytime I read these blogs, some idiot always has to get an argument going about race. Why can’t you just discuss about whatever the topic is about?
Anyway, I loved T-pain’s “Ring Leader” performance. I stayed up late to see Lil Wayne’s performance, but I was sort of disappointed. As much as I love Lil Wayne, it just wasn’t that great. Also, I hate that Kanye messed up Jeezy’s song last night.

Actually the awards were good this year…for the first time in is eight year history!!!
I loved the tribute to Al Green…where did they find Maxwell??? Anyway he did good, as did Jill Scott (one of my favs) and Anthony Hamilton.
I loved Jeezy’s performance…he is so ATL!!! And bringing Kanye out was good too!
But the best performance of the night was the Alicia Key’s set! They shut it down…AK, SWV, EnVouge, and TCL!!! PURLEY CLASSIC!!!
Is it me or is Lil Wayne & T-Pain two of the ugliest individuals in America? But I respect their talent!

Just So You Know - the fact that BET, Miss Black America, et al were created out of necessity is sad, but true, however, a lot of “White Folk” feel that the practice today of “color” specification is discriminatory. Not only because of the word “Black” in the title, but because of the actions associated with it - could a white comedian stand on stage and make fun of the way a black person walks or talks (as a black comedian can do against a white person on Comic View)? On several occasions, I’ve seen “Black Folk” wearing a clinched fist “Black Power” T-shirt - a “White Power” T-shirt wouldn’t be tolerated. And the list goes on. This country should no longer be forced or allowed to distinguish a TV station, school name, event or any thing else by skin color. (We’re the only “civilized” nation that does it).

I have a question. WHY oh WHY do these columns ALWAY end up like this? Sorry white folks, you guys always seem to strike first. Then when we hit back something is wrong. I only wanted to read what folks thought of the show since I didn’t watch (i’ll catch the reruns) but I got arguments and fights about black & white. It’s really sad that it ALWAYS ALWAYS come to this. White folks…no harm no foul, but if you don’t like the shows aimed at and created for a black audience please stop watching JUST to bash it/us on the comments. That’s what we do…we just don’t watch the things that don’t appeal to us. It’s really simple.

TBOZ is the worst singer in pop history. I could never understand why most of the lead vocals were give to her over Chilli while they were in TLC. Not only did Tboz sound a hot mess, but she looked the part too. She looked like she did not want to be there.

People ALWAYS find SOMETHING to complain about…always manage to defecate at least ONE negative thing about everything from their bottoms. Why is there so much hatred and better yet…why do you have to say the first thing that comes to your mind. If you didn’t care for BET, why did you even click to this article? Just to complain about why there isn’t a WET? Even if you DID have a WET, then what? Someone would STILL complain.

Now, that’s interesting, Monique. No, none of us existed 140 years ago, but the death of Emmitt Till, the church bombing that killed four young black girls in Alabama, the lynchings, and other racist atrocities occurred less than 60 years ago. We’ll forget these when you folks forgive O.J. Simpson.
Seriously, most blacks do not act like victims. Most of us do not buy into the “Tha Man Syndrome”. However, we are cautious about not letting history repeat itself. This means that we will not allow ANYONE—regardless of race—to make us feel as if we are inferior. Unfortunately, there are some blacks who degrade themselves, but they do not represent the whole black race.
As for “Peter”, I will seriously pray for God to deliver you and others who think like you from your ignorance, just like I pray for the blacks who feel that life is only about “gettin’ rich or die tryin’”.

The best course of action to racist comments is to ignore them.
After all we were raise better than that!
For the record, BET is owned by Viacom (that is how Bob Johnson got Riiiiiiiiiiichhhh)
And Viacom owns MTV.
Both network are cheap as heck.
There is nothing wrong with ethnic award shows. Same thing with gamers or ESPYs and so forth.
I dont see yall getting all upset when they do the Latino awards show.
Each culture is entitled to do whatever.
It was a good show with some pro and cons.
But DL Hughley messed up big time and he didnt really carry the crowd -They shoulda have got Monique or David Chapelle…..

Whup ‘dat Trick, you are right and I just starting noticing that. Many people talk about the AJC and how the blogs always turn to race, but the more and more I look at other sites and read their blogs, they also turn into a race debate more times than not. This is just a sign that we really haven’t moved to far from the past. It might not be as blatent as years back, I wouldn’t even go as far as saying it’s all racism, but there is a vast misunderstanding of each other’s cultures. It seems that we dwell on all of the negative things we hear or see from other races and are quick to neglect embracing the positives in one another. It’s easy to hate, so why don’t we try the opposite, or at least make an honest effort to tolerate one another.

However, since we’re on the subject can you try to raise your born out of wedlock kids to obey the law. Why are there so may burgularies on the high end shops for jeans and sun galsses, because you people will buy anything out of the back of a van and not pay your rent and then complain. You grew up living on hand outs and gimmes and you still expect it. Again, I Earl do not owe your tired worthless butts anything. If anything, you owe us for all the crime you do and for Gods sake, try getting married before you have those inbred kids with names no one in hell can pronounce. Thank you Think and all the other opinions in this blog. I came on here to find out about the BET Awards show but got bombarded with a bunch of race comments. I guess I found out how the show was last night but I also found out how racist Georgia is. Not surprising at all since they still fly the bars and stars flag here. Black people need to be more intelligent about the comments associated with race. I know it strikes a nerve but people come on, we must rise above the BS. Just from reading the comments on this blog all it took was one person to incite race and negativity towards blacks and all hell broke loose. It shows that whites have power over your reactions and feelings just by certain words typed. Who cares what one hater says. It may be the way a lot of white people feel about us but look what we’ve done from the creation of man. The Black man is the original man. The Black man is God. Always remember that Black people. Look at the way we have influenced society in every manner. Most white women and other women want to be Black (hence the big boobs, thick lips and lady lumps). Black people are creators and originators so who cares what a white person has to say. They were raised with racism in their lives and they think that’s an advantage. It’s actually a disadvantage because they were taught IGNORANCE. Be smart Black people and love one another.

Sorry and getting back on topic, I actually thought Usher did a decent job, even though he wasn’t really singing. Actually, I think everyone did well accpet Keyshia and I have much love for her. She does need to learn how to sing live better. I am not from the old school, but even though Al Green was shaky at first, I think he torn the house down. Now I am a fan of DL Hughley, but don’t think he was quite right for the hosting job. The presenters needed some more practice. I think it was an all around good show, maybe a little fine tuning in the future though.

And for everyone out there who says that we have white entertainment awards/tv and lists the oscars/tv shows—YOU ARE SO DAMN WRONG!! Whites don’t have anything a black can’t have; but blacks have what whites can’t! I stress can’t because if a white person has something a black doesn’t, the black can scream affirmitive action, and get it. Will my white son ever get the United negro college fund? NO HE WON’T!!! Because he’s white.
And for all blacks saying whites have this and that-maybe you need to push ‘your people’ (yeah i said it) to work harder and perform better, and they can get those awards that whites get, too.
Oh, a white person full of hate would never voice his opinion in a room full of blacks, and here’s why-if said white guy made a racial comment about blacks in a room full of blacks, do you think the blacks would talk civilized to the guy, or just gang up on him and beat him up??? Hmmmm-lets survey that question and see what we think….
We think there would be no civilized response, just violence…sad…

All I am trying to say is that minorities can and will have things that whites can’t.
Don’t hold me accountable for things i didn’t do.
Maybe blacks were forced into having to be separate at first-separate shows, separate awards; but don’t you think it’s time to put separate stuff behind and assimilate with the rest of America? We can’t force you to do that, you have to do it on your own or you’ll continuously stand out as black instead of American!

Did anyone notice how Keisha Cole almost fell twice when she was trying to dance. What was that? Keisha’s mom and her sister why did they let them speak? That was not good. Dear Tray,
Did you even watch the show???? I mean, seriously??? But to answer you, why should we assimilate??? People of European descent have been “assimilating” foreign nations and countries for years? People like you make me sick, in fact, I’m vomiting as we speak… No one should have to do anything, especially assimilate into white culture. The fact that we have our own subculture within a culture is awesome. Something that white people will never be able to diminish. Latins/Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, and Black Americans all have to deal with this issue. So stop crying about how everyone should “assimiliate,” when in fact you mean embrace white culture in spite of their own. “Separate but equal,” civil rights, affirmative action, etc… was caused by discrimination of minorities by white people. Don’t forget that. You started it, we’ll deal with it and prosper. As far as BET goes, it really is a joke, but the awards were GOOD!! I loved CiCi and CB’s performance along with AK’s. It in fact does get better every year!!

I think this was the best BET Awards ever. I was entertained from start to finish. Usher’s performance was blown way out of proportion. It was okay but not better than Ne’Yo’s. He is the “year of the gentleman”. I felt like Kanye and Jeezy didn’t have 2 perform at all. Especially with whatever was going on with his microphone. But I love what Kanye had on 4 some reason. It looked simple but good on him. And I don’t know why they keep making Keyshia sing live? Does she not know what we hear? LOL. I don’t know what’s the difference between a microphone and the microphone in the studio but with her it seems like she can’t make the transformation. And did u see her family trying to read off the teleprompter? Oh my…lol. Chris Brown and Ciara, Chris really didn’t have 2 perform either but Ciara danced her a— off. She is a beast. I like when T-Payne came out. I thought he was gonna bring out Plies to since he was at first keeping it strictly Florida. And speaking of Ludacris….should you be wearing something that a regular person can buy? Like a Big Pony polo shirt? I mean come on I have that same shirt in my closet that I wore 2 years ago. But I still think he’s sexy. And was it me or did Obama get free endorsements and publicity? Nia Long looked absolutely fab….i love that dress she had on. But was Cuba Gooding Jr on that stuff? He was acting….well…you know if u saw. And why wasn’t anyone there? Kobe, Missy, or The-Dream(who were winners) were not there. What were u doing? I understand Kobe not being there. I wanted The-Dream to be there because I wanted him 2 win Best New Artist instead of Soulja boy. So I give BET major props for that. But they gave Chris Brown Best Male R&B Artist over Ne-Yo? So wrong. And I guess if you’re not nominated(Jay-Z & Beyonce) then I guess u don’t even bother 2 show up until you’re hot again? Typical. Since BET went over there time, Rihanna didn’t even have 2 perform either. I can see if she did something. But it was cute how Chris Brown was singing to the song. Get em girl! And I love Ashanti and all but that split in the dress was 2 high. And why did they make her come out 2 introduce Nelly? Talkin bout she got that good, good. Too much information! Al Green…..I love you. I’m only 22 and knew all the songs. I’ve been a fan of him since I could sing. Oh and Maxwell…..I could have cried when I saw him without the dredlocks but at the same time he looked good and sexy. The same thing with Anthony Hamilton. I was trying 2 see what was different about him. Did he lose weight? But he cut all that facial hair off. Looks good. And did anybody catch Eric Benet on the red carpet earlier? I loved the D&G suit. But overall the show was awesome. MTV awards can never be that good.

RE: PETER, TRAY, SAR, EARL, AND EVERYONE ELSE Don’t even worry about it. The only thing that matters in life is this: “Am I going to heaven to be with God?” You can quote me on that. Let me know if you find something else that’s more important than that. Racism, money, sex, economic hardship, people dying everyday…let me know if you find something else that is important in a person’s life. If you do let me know. I ain’t trying to be sarcastic or anything, I just was thinking today and I came to that conclusion. Ain’t that a trip? You mean to tell me that getting money, getting girls, getting famous, and getting whatever you want doesn’t mean anything? You dang right it don’t mean anything. None of this stuff matters, because when you’re on your death bed won’t none of that stuff matter, not everything good you did, not how many people loved you, none of that. The only thing that matters is if you believe in Jesus Christ who is the only way to heaven. Many highly educated people don’t even understand this. When you take your last breath, ain’t none of that stuff going to matter. Even if you’ve acted a complete fool your whole life, flunked out of high school, went to jail, had 12 kids by 8 baby mommas, even if you die of AIDS or get murdered, if you believe in Jesus Christ and that he forgave you for all you’ve done, you will go to heaven. And going to heaven is the only thing that matters. But going to heaven ain’t easy. Believing in Jesus Christ ain’t easy, because it means that you have to kill yourself. Jesus said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.”
a. Then He said to them all: It was bad enough for the disciples to hear that Jesus would suffer, be rejected, and die on a cross. Now He tells them that they must do the same thing.
b. Let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me: Everybody knew what Jesus meant when He said take up his cross. Everyone knew what the cross was: The cross was a way to execute people.
Taking up your cross wasn’t a journey; it was a one-way trip. There was no return ticketing; it was never a round trip.
b. And take up his cross: Death to self is the radical command of the Christian life. To take up your cross meant one thing: you were going to a certain death, and your only hope was in resurrection power.
Denying yourself means to live as an others-centered person. Jesus was the only person to do this perfectly, but we are to follow in His steps.
Human nature wants to indulge self, not deny self. Death to self is always terrible, and if we expect it to be a pleasant experience, we will often be discouraged.
c. Are you God centered or self centered? Jesus presents quite a “grown-up” gospel to us here, one that does not merely pander to our desires, but challenges us in our deepest being.
d. This is following Jesus at its simplest - He carried a cross, He walked down death row; so must those who would follow Him.
“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.”
b. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world: Avoiding the walk down death row with Jesus means that we may gain the whole world - and end up losing everything.
c. Jesus Himself had the opportunity to gain the whole world by worshipping Satan (Luke 4:5-8), but found life and victory in obedience instead.
The reason it ain’t easy is because no one knows when they are going to die. So we have to be patient and fight the good fight daily. Take up our cross daily, deny ourselves daily. In fact, it should be everyone’s goal in life. Every morning we should all wake up and try to “get to heaven”.

To all of my sisters and brothers, i.e. (black and white), please do not allow the ignorance of others to bring out what is not in your heart (HATRED). You only fuel the fire with comments directed back at them. Ignorance should definately be ignored. If we ignor them then they have no one to dispute it with. Life is to short and you should not get worked-up over comments of another you can’t change. And for those who dont know, you better ask somebody (GOD LOvES US ALL)!!!

IGNORANCE IS ALIVE AND KICKING!!!
To the Peters, Earls, and all the rest of the haters why did you even click on the blog to spit hate. Just foolishness and craziness!!
Let all get back to what we clicked on the blog for in the first place.
We are some beautiful people!!! I thought the show was absolutely great. I almost felt like I was at a concert. Great job, BET!!! This was the best show so far!
My good was the Al Green tribute. All great performers, but if you haven’t seen Anthony Hamilton in concert you are missing out on a treat. He gives a great concert, can’t wait till he comes back to Atlanta. Al Green performance was awesome; I plan on going out and getting the best of his hits this week. He is a great performer he just makes that feel good music. I absolutely loved T-Pain’s performance and all the rest of the artist that joined him for the melody. Get that money T-Pain!! Alicia Keys and her homage to the girls groups was fire!! The only good thing about Chris Brown was Ciara…that girl does not play when she dance. She is serious with it!! Loved it!!
My bad was Usher, why was he lip synching. I expected much more. The dancing was good but honestly by the end of the show I forgot he had perform. I love me some Keyshia Cole but I was disappointed. I think maybe if she hadn’t been so focused on trying to dance she would have song better. Still love you girl!!
If I had to pick an ugly I would say D. L. Hughley, he was just not funny whatsoever. Niecy Nash was on the show for a few minutes and she was hilarious. Girl you crazy!!! You guys should check her show out on the Style channel I think it’s called Clean House or something. She’s a trip!!!
Other than that the show was just great overall. There was not a dull moment.

I love how it’s wrong for black people to talk against whites when they are the ones who start it everytime. I was looking at a video on youtube and it was a ufc video, black vs white guy. The black guy wins and there are a bunch of nice comments at first. Then I see one comment that sparks a fire. The comment was from someone saying the black guy only one because he is a dirty monkey who has nothing else better to do than take his anger out on white guys for us making him pick cotton. And I noticed the same thing on other videos.

A few more of these and I will have to find another medium for local news. The AJC LOVES the path these blogs take.

The AJC is a race-baiting rag, for sure, but this one was a legimate blog, I think. It was only when the ignorant racists — who had nothing to add to the topic — weighed in spew their hatefulness that the blog turned into a dialogue about race.
Thanks, a lot, HATERS. {note sarcasm}

Food for thought:
Why doesn’t the AJC monitor their blogs and delete the destructive comments?? Is this some type of propaganda technique??

I think the AJC has left this blog up to make us all think. Racism comes from both sides. Whites dislike blacks and blacks have a disdain for whites. It’s not universal to all but a minority few in modern culture. It’s reflective of our society. There is open hostility on from both sides. This blog is just a shawdowy reflection of that uneeded divisiveness. Unfortunately, it’s always going to be there is some shape, form, or fashion as we do not live in a perfect utopia.Small minds never change but open hearts move mountains. Maybe we can learn something.
