Janet Jackson’s Returning To TV?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Hold on - don’t start thinking “Good Times 2009 - Penny’s All Grown Up”.
Or a sitcom based on Charlene and Willis (Todd Bridges) as a married couple.
No, Janet Jackson herself — not one her beloved TV characters — has signed a reality show deal with MTV, according to variety.com.
The part-time Atlantan is apparently going where a whole lot of networks have gone before, and developing a music competition. Jackson will serve as mentor to the up-and-coming singers and dancers.
“It’s really about finding who’s the next Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or Usher,” Dave Broome, executive producer of the now-untitled show, told Variety. “And we’ll find it from a pool of people who you wouldn’t typically find it from. We’ll go to YMCA’s, church groups, local community centers and try to cast the show.”
The story added that a prize hasn’t been determined yet, “but it could potentially relate to Jackson’s tour”.
Sept. 10 is reportedly the target launch date.
Looking forward to Jackson’s return to TV? Did you watch her when she was on “Good Times” (above) or “Fame” or “Diff’rent Strokes”? (See a YouTube video from “Strokes” BELOW). Do you think there’s room for yet another music competition on TV?

With her freakish mannikin looking face she should get a job posing in department store windows.

I just watched the above Diff’rent Strokes video. EEK! She could barely sing then, and she can barely sing now. DESPERATION is right!

I agree with Hellbent. I cannot believe Ms. Jackson is doing a reality show. Is she going to help coach singers? I can’t even image Janet telling someone how to sing. I guess if it worked for Paula Abdula, it will work her.

So she follows in the footsteps of other has-been and over-the-hill types like Gene Simmons, the has beens on (not) a Celebrity Circus and she makes a paycheck. Her music is not selling, her core fanbase has grown up and moved on and she won’t fill the same arenas on tour as she did in her day. Is she broke? Does she support Tito and her other brothers who have no marketable talent and probably have ahand oiut all the time for money. Anyway, I wish her well and if you want to watch it watch it and enjoy and if you don’t…change the channel. I hope she invested well, all the money she made back when she was on top.

I wish she’d go away, along with all her other disfunctional siblings. I swear the Jackson family likes to beat a dead horse—it’s over.

Mabe she’ll dedicate a segment of the show for Michael to come out and throw up the “peace sign” and say “I love you” about a dozen times. Gripping television. Or mabe a lucky member of the audience can come up and rip off an article of her clothing then get slapped around by Joe!The possibilities are endless!Must see TV!!

Nothing says “washed up” like being part of a “reality” show.

It just no longer plays for you. Become a DIVA. Make some more cash. All the bitches have done it honey. Elton, Cher, Cekion…just make some cash and disappear into the sunset.

Nothing spells “washed-up” like having the blog pulled from the main page of ajc.com because there were only 10 comments. See, nobody cares about Miss. Jackson (I’m nasty) anymore.

My God, just because a pop icon has a few bumps in the road doesn’t mean that she’s “washed-up”. She’s a creative sista so I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Ms. SEXY AS HELL. Seriously, let’s lift up our sistas and brothas instead of tearing them apart. Peace!

Actually, it sounds like she has a good project lined up. There are VERY few entertainers who have sung, danced and acted as successfully as Janet has. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that she should have such a show. Who cares if the few who’ve managed to stick around for more than 30 years in the biz don’t sell out arenas or sell albums as they used to? You KNOW her tour will be an amazing spectacle. Who the hell else is going to impress theses miserable fools on here? Madonna , cough, $350 a pop? Hey, if you like paying that much for a yoga lesson , go ahead. My money (about half that much) will be on Janet.

People are so ignorant and mean as it relates to Janet. First of all, she has a “cute” voice, but has never claimed to be a great singer! She is however, no doubt, a great entertainer and she does sell albums, concert tickets and everything else that has her name on it! Just because she doesn’t sell as many albums as she used to(and who does for that matter)doesn’t mean she isn’t relevant. And her tour dates are selling well, by the way. Pollstar confirms that…Anyway, I think the show is a good move for her as reality tv is popular television these days.
