Coldplay’s new album, “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends” was released today to mostly favorable reviews. The British quartet’s catchy single “Viva La Vida,” is at No. 2 on the pop chart and in an iPod TV commercial that seems to run every 10 minutes.
The album was released last Thursday in the U.K. and has already gone platinum there (in Britain, that signifies 300,000 in sales).
Now, the band is headed out on a world tour that will land in Atlanta on Nov. 11. Tickets go on sale Saturday, June 21, at noon online through Live Nation, at the Philips Arena box office or Ticketmaster charge by phone at 404-249-6400. Ticket prices are $97.50, $77.50 and $49.50.
What is your take on the new album and single? Will you be scooping up tickets come Saturday?

What’s up with ticket prices now? Not that Coldplay isn’t a great band or anything but 49.50 for the worst seats at Phillips? C’mon! I’m not going to pay 49.50 to sit in the nosebleed seats. Sorry.

Coldplay is one of the most overrated, lousy bands I’ve ever heard. Only fools should waste their money on this concert.

Maybe their plane will crash on the way over here and luckily it will take Gwyneth Paltrow with him.
It must suck living in the shadow of Radiohead and U2

Wake up, Coldplay is one of the best bands out and also making huge strides in the push to help the environment as well as the world’s poor. Grow up and give them their proper respect.

While I don’t wish their plane to crash on the way over, I do think the ticket prices are ridiculous. I also know there will be people lining up to get them.
Remember, this is the band that the British voted they most wanted to fall asleep to. No joke.

Love the band…HATE the venue. I went to the last show by myself with no expectations (I was at best a casual listener) and walked away amazed. I have been to hundreds of shows all over the country and their last tour was EASIlY in the top three of all time for me. So, I will tough it out at Philips Arena just to see them.

Reason why tix prices are sky high is because Bands are looking to recover lost revenue from downloading. And then there’s the usual excuse. Gas Prices.

Thanks to LiveNation (Clear Channel in disguise) buying up most of the venues in town, ticket prices are now beyond ridiculous. An average concert ticket is $35 - $80 before Ticketbastard adds their bloated fees. Less than a decade ago, Atlantans could go to The Cotton Club or The Roxy and see big bands for $18-25 a ticket. Now, LiveNation has closed those venues and jacked up the prices across the board.
