Rate Hot-107.9’s Birthday Bash 13
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Photo: Donna Permell Prime Phocus, LLC
Atlanta rapper-actor T.I. (above) gave his first hometown performance (and only his second one, period) since he was arrested for and pleaded guilty to felony gun charges.
Fellow local hip-hop phenom Young Jeezy surprised the sold-out Philips Arena with guest appearances by Atlanta R&B singer Usher (for “Love In This Club”) and fellow superstar Kanye West (on “Put On”).
(See excerpts from those performances - as well as West doing “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” — HERE ).
And just about every local (Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, Rocko) and nationally-recognized (Plies, the Game, Bun B) artists on the hip-hop charts these days rounded out Hot-107.9’s Birthday Bash 13.
If you went, tell us what your good (Ludacris showing up with Shawty Lo?), bad (the many “wardrobe malfunctions” Trina kept pointing out on stage?) and ugly (some of the wardrobe choices in the audience?) was.

Why Lord, Why? Everytime I see one of these imasges it convinces me further that we are in the end of days. Surely this is one of the plagues of the apocolypse.

So, the “hip-hop” crowd essentially rioted after the concert, damaging property and threatening pedestrians and motorists near Philips, and generally acted like a thuggish, unruly, unprincipled herd of predatory animals. Wow, did anyone see that coming? Was anyone else as surpised as me?

No shocker. With that element that behavior is to be expected. Cars were vandalized, people were terrorized and property was destroyed. It is like something snaps in their brain and mob mentality takes over. Very disturbing.

At least the authorities have the common sense to keep the “element” downtown. God forbid that the “herd of predatory animals” comes into our quiet, safe neighborhoods. I shudder when I hear the approaching “tick-tick-BOOM” while stuck in traffic. It is like the four horsemen traded their horses for 20-in rims.

Birthday bash…I had no desire to go…it isn’t the same as it was in the 90’s….a bunch of rowdy teenyboppers, that don’t know what good music is..what is the world coming to? And then to hear the way they carried on afterward? Come on guys! And they wonder why they won’t allow us to do or have any events in Atlanta?

I was at the Birthday Bash at Philips Arena on Saturday night. I don’t know where some of you have gotten your information, but I didn’t see anythig like some of you are saying. I was there from 6pm until the end of the show at midnight. I didn’t see one fight or altercation inside or outside of the concert. As far as cars and property being damaged, I didn’t see or hear of anything like that either. Please provide a news link of something if you have heard about this.

@ Gavin- LOL! My thoughts exactly… As far as the comments about the behavior after the bash, I believe most of us read it right here in the AJC. I grew up on hip-hop, but I would NEVER go to hip-hop concert- not today. Too many negative variables to deal with…. don’t get mmad.. it is what it is……..

Gavin, i still do not see where you are getting the “riots ” from. No one is getting mad, we (the people who were actually there) did not see or hear of what you mentioned (please send me this ajc link). It seems like there a lot of people who are stereotyping the people who went to the concert. But, whatever, it is not that serious. Especially if your going to insult people ” you could benefit greatly from a textbook or two” there is no need to be rude. I had a GREAT TIME and so did all the other people who went with me.

These comments are supposed to be for people who actually attended the show. So far, all negative comments on here are from people who weren’t even there! I have still not seen one link, story, or anything related to anything negative about Birthday Bash. It really kills people when the “hip-hop crowd” or that “element” (as some of you have said) can get together and have a good positve time. So before you tell someone to get an education, get an education on FACTS. Shouts out to everyone who actually went and had a good time.

GAVIN - When Alexis finishes the text books; you need to read them too.
“Seriously, get an eduction.” <— what you wrote to her.
