Georgia musicians are busy these days, so let’s do a little cathing up with them. Here are a few recent news tidbits:

Athens sludge rockers Harvey Milk have a new album called “Life … The Best Game in Town.” The Onion raved about it recently, giving it a grade of A. Check out the review (and a musical sample) here. The band plays the EARL on June 17 before heading out on a month-long tour. See all of the dates at the HM MySpace page.

Deerhunter/Atlas Sound main man Bradford Cox is part of a new advertising campaign from Converse that includes a whole slew of cool musicians. Among Atlantan Cox’s fellow Converse wearers are the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, Santogold, the Fiery Furnaces’ Eleanor Friedberger and Pharrell Williams. Pitchfork has scans of the print ads here.

Janet Jackson told reporters during a conference call to promote her upcoming tour that there would be no further singles from her latest album, “Discipline.” Apparently, Jackson and her label, Island Def Jam, aren’t seeing eye to eye on the album’s promotion. Check it out here.

Atlanta Christian rock quartet Third Day was featured on the cover of Billboard magazine’s June 7 issue. That might have provided the boost needed to push the band’s new single, “Call My Name,” to the No. 1 spot in several Christian radio formats, according to trade publications Radio & Records and Christian Radio Weekly. “Call My Name” is the first single from the band’s upcoming album, “Revelation,” set for a July 29 release.

And, finally, Dead Confederate’s upcoming full-length debut, “Wrecking Ball,” is now set for a Sept. 16 release. If you haven’t heard this amazing Athens quintet, go have a listen to “The Rat” on the band’s MySpace page.
