Hollywood Reinvests In T.I.

ATL_7750r.JPG

In his first sit-down interview since pleading guilty to felony gun charges, Atlanta rapper/actor T.I. told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he figured he’d lost between $10 million and $12 million.

Now it looks like some income will be in the plus column again.

Variety is reporting that Screen Gems has signed a three-picture deal with the Grammy winner born Clifford Harris Jr., beginning with a crime drama (of all things) called “Bone Deep,” with Matt Dillon and Idris Elba. AccessAtlanta.com previously reported on this project, which T.I., longtime friend and business partner Jason Geter and fellow Atlanta talent Will Packer will produce.

The second movie is a drama titled “Boulevard,”, which is still in development, and the third is yet to be determined.

Did you catch T.I. in “ATL” (above) and/or “American Gangster,” and if so, what did you think of his performances? Think he has movie star potential? Surprised that a studio would do business with someone due in jail for a year, next year?

He will have very limited and narrow appeal. I can’t see this guy carrying a movie, possibly a small part in a film but never as a leading man. he dosn’r have the right stuff. If they’re stupid enough to put this guy in the lead, it will go straight to DVD and be a major flop outside the projects.

Just another sad example that we’re sending to our youth. Make bad choices and you’ll still be rewarded as long as you’re a celebrity.

This just disgusts me. Even if he HAD talent (which he doesn’t) he should not be rewarded for being a terrible person. Having those weapons was not just a “BAD DECISION” a bad decision is buying an SUV while gas prices are so high…buying guns like he did is CRIMINAL and shows a lack of character, morals, and a weak mind.

Just I avoid thr area that the street Boulevard is near in Atlanta, I will avoid the movie the same way. Like I want to hear a bunch of hip-hoppers on their cell phones in a movie talking back at the screen. I’d rather have a root canal without having the gums numb. Typical Hollyweird crap. Can California hurry and either burn up or fall into the ocean and take it’s freaks with it. Save the wildlife and pets out there, lets the rest drown.

Really? A sad example? Like, I dont know, you never made a mistake in your life? Is that it KF? Did you ever learn from them? Having said that, did you let one mistake overcome you instead of you overcoming it? Why dont you listen to the song No Matter What by T.I. where he says, “Wonder how I’m facing years, but I’m still chillin’, It’s easy, let go, and let God deal with it.” Sad example indeed for our kids.

Hey LVNRT

I take it you are a high profile celebrity that a lot of people dont like… See, you have NO need of pretecting yourself, because hundreds of thousands of people dont have a grudge against you.

Oh, and he doesnt have talent? Really, maybe thats why hes sold more than 10 million albums is because he has no talent. Just because you dont like hop hop you bash it? Well S**T I dont like all the drug crazed hippies from the 70’s listening to psychedlic rock. this goes both ways, or the redneck alcoholics with their country. this is a slippery bridge you are walking on, so watch it.

You people kill me judging people that mnake bad choices. When Danny Heatley made the bad choice of traveling down Lenox Road @ 80 miles/hour after having a few drinks and killing his friend and teammate none of you were disgusted with the Atlanta Thrashers for giving him another chance! He is still getting making money and you’re not mad 2 him. HE MADE BAD CHOICES JUST LIKE T.I.!!!!!

These films don’t require much range from Mr. Harris, so he should do a good job. If he really wants to take risks, he should get outside of his comfort zone and play a character role portraying a cop, fireman, medic, soldier, teacher or widower. Hey, it worked out ok for Will Smith.

If you dislike TI so much why even bother to read this blog or reply? Nothing better to do but kick a man down?

I wish TI the very best. Hopefully he has learned his lesson and will continue to follow a better path. I liked ATL and look forward to these upcoming flicks. Obviously, Matt Dillon & Idris Elba, both established actors in their own right, aren’t worried so none of you should be either.

I think he did a good job in ATL, however, I’m a little hesitate about what he will represent, are you glorying what he did regarding the gus, sending a double message to the youth of today that it’s okay. I understand he made a mistake and that he will deal with the consequences and he should get over it. I hope he learned his lesson and continue to press forward. I hope he gets married soon.

People Please! so you don’t believe in second chances. How is that different from sending your kid off to college and they dropping out due to low grades, drugs, pregnant, or pulling a gun out and blasting students (CAWP/ Crazy A$$ White P….). No second chance for Bobby, Amy, or Lauren. If your kids look up to the starts then there on crack. They should look up to you (the parent) and nothing else. Now if your working at McDonalds then I hope they won’t grow up to be a fry master. lol! Hey! Rock stars due drugs all the time so what’s the difference. Rock on T.I. and keep it pimpin!

His proformance in ATL. was ok. As for American Gangster they could have gotten someone better for less. However, if someone sees talent in him, then the best of luck I guess. As for his crimes, he has already been judged and sentenced. It is up to the individual to support his career or not.

By LvnRT

June 6, 2008 10:01 AM | Link to this

I’m sorry, what does Danny Heatley have to do with this conversation?…no one has made that comparison, he is not mentioned in the article…No one was “baiting” you “DAWG” (lovely spelling, what grade are you in little one?)

Now if your inference is comparing that incident to Clifford’s based on race we can get out a score card and track criminal behavior based on that criteria. I don’t think there will be any surprises with the outcome.

The ignorance in the rhetoric or his supporters speaks volumes…”keep it pimpin” what does that even mean…truly sad…You fella’s need to listen to Bill Cosby. I will pray for you.

By Stacey

I think T.I. made a bad and quite frankly, a dumb mistake. That said, as long as he serves his sentence (which he appears to be doing) I think he should get another chance. If you don’t like his music - don’t buy it. Don’t like his films - don’t watch them. That’s the beauty of having freedom of choice.

Personally, I think he was excellent in “ATL” and he held his own in “American Gangster”. While I don’t think he has “leading man” capability at this time, very few actors do. Movies aren’t just comprised of “leading men”. Also, like it or not, he has a fan base that will go to the theater to see him.

T.I. PLEASE DO YOUR THING!! It is amazing to me to read the HATERAID that the ATL can easily say while you are not right in front of that person. This is a man, who made a mistake. He lost a baby and a best friend in the same year. When his best friend was killed 9 times out of 10 they were actually gunning for him! Did he feel like he needed to protect his family and himself, ABSOLUTELY!!! He made a call that any REAL MAN would make, regardless of what happens to me I have to protect my family. So, while some of you “so called educated” people come down on him, step back and ask yourself what would you do!! T.I. I wil always be a fan, I love your music and movies. LET GO AND LET GOD!!! “Shake those Haters” “MiDdle FaNga Zup” “HATERS” “Keep it pimpin” “LOL NUFF SAID” Congratulations for making LvnRT’s point.
Your command of the English language is amazing. If more of an effort to become financially sound was based on education and not trying to be a rapper or sports star their would be a lot less poverty and violence among your community.
It is hard to finish school when you are fathering multiple children by multiple girls and running with guns trying to prove “street cred”. Guess what boys—A diploma is “cred” that can not be denied and there is nothing preventing anyone from getting an education. It is available to all of you and most of you get it for free where as I had to pay for mine. while they are speaking “cultural” jargon that you will never understand, I do think your preception of the support of TI is narrow minded. Many, black and white, have made mistakes in the entertainment world and have been given a second chance. Why is it such a disgrace to give TI a second chance. Given the opportunity, you will find that he is a good guy with a good heart who made mistakes. People…….All of you need to realize that this America, where the media dictates the rise and fall of every athlete, celebrity, politician, and whomever they deem important at the time. If all of you would take the time after reading these simplistic articles these so call journalist put on here, you would understand one simple thing…….it’s called freedom of speech, your First Amendment Right. Bottom line is in life, you have a choice in everything you do. Why comment on these things when you probably won’t take the time to even see the film this young man will be in. Instead you comment on the blog s thinking you’re making a sensible statement, but really only showing how truly ignorant you are. Often times we wonder why this city, state, and country is so divided on issues; just re-read some of the entries submitted and it will be a quick reminder. People, use your time wisely rather than be an internet blog tough guy/gal. Dedicate your time in making a difference in your child, family or communities life. Go do something positive with your frustrations, and if your at work, get back to it. I’m quite sure your company wouldn’t be satisfied with their employees griping on this when you should be working. Think people, you’re suppose to be an example for your little ones, their role model. Fine example people, fine example your setting.

it is called a typo…please don’t challenge my education because THAT you will not win!!!!!!! I narrowly looked at my examples as just caucasians…I can honestly say with GODs eyes on me now that i never thought of them as caucasians. Look at what all 3 examples have in common and you will find tha Halliburton has no color…I used these examples as political frames of references and view points of life. See minorities disagree with these 3 examples because of thier viewpoint in life (good bad or indifferent)…the majority does not…like i suggested, step back and look at the big picture; be objective. My argument may be weak and fruitless because you are not willing to even entertain the possibility that there is a middle ground. And no! I am not a democrate..I am very much an independent!!!!!!

Let’s not make judgement and call him a bad person, you have to undertsand that he made a mistake and is learning from it. A mistake that stemmed from something that he thought was right to do. I don’t think he is a bad actor, just a beginning actor, we’ll have to see when the movies debut. Glad to see he’s growing. Think positive people, please.

T.I was very good in the limited role that he had in American Gangster. Honestly, ATL was horrible and so was he as it was too much for him to do at that time. Maybe he has gotten better but one would think at least two more roles like he played in American Gangster will help him a lot.

By Canes

June 6, 2008 11:30 AM | Link to this

This blog has turned into an attack blog. But to answer the original question. TI raps with dramatic expression on stage and on his videos. With the proper coaching, he can elevate that dramatic ability to transform into roles that the public could not imagine him playing until they actually watch the film. The roles that he is playing now I can picture his performance without even seeing the movie.

Being a real good actor is playing the roles of characters whose lifestyle you have never in your life experienced or know anything about regardless of the role. For instance, Samuel Jackson has always played the roles of a crazy man with a loose temper, but when he plays the role of a timid man or a Jedi Knight, now thats acting.

Dear Keeping It Real (exactly what is It?)

You are incorrect. I am married and have been for 19 years. My daughter (18 because we waited until we were married to become parents) is starting UVA in the fall and my son 16 is an award winning recognized high school quarterback.

You venomous tone an uninformed attack prove the caliber of man that you are. Manners, eloquence of speach and proper grammar are not indicative of being “gay” they are indicative of an education. The mere fact that you base your assumption on such a disjointed view explains why so many people in your community are uneducated.

Thank you for the verbal intercourse, but it has come time to say “GOOD DAY”

I was born and raised in atlanta ga and I am now married and raising 4 kids; My husband is a huge TI Fan; I listen to the music(my favorite is Motivation). i am a firm believer that a mistake is a mistake, a sin is a sin; No sin or mistake is bigger or smaller than the other; Who are we to judge; How many people has purchased items off the street for a less price; How many ladies has a “Purse Lady” that sells them bootleg bags and shoes; forgive and forget and stop hating and using so much negative energy on the bad; What about him having a new child on the way and being their, what about him going to church services as a father with his children and girlfriend, what about a felon turned hip hop star?? Stop concentrating on the bad, and use some of that energy towards positive; If you maintain an open relationship with your children, then maybe you won’t have to worry about what they interpret from celebrities; remember, celebrities are people too; they have just chosen a career that includes the public; But regardless of how you guys concentrate on the negative involving T I, he has the only person on his team that even matters, and that’s GOD, so read this comment and weap!!! As TI told you all in the song motivation, all of this negative just “MAKES ME BETTER!!!! Good luck TI!!! Congrats!!!! And you already know, Shake them hatters off!!!! From one ATL original, to another!!!!!!

“”How many ladies has a “Purse Lady” that sells them bootleg bags and shoes; “” I never ceased to be amazed. I don’t know ANYONE who has a Purse Lady. Someone whoe sells bootleg bags and shoes is a criminal and so is the person buying them. Just because a lot of people do something wrong does not make it any less of a crime. This city continues to amaze me in its lack of scruples!

Karen, I just read that the so called “blue jean bandits” have struck again. Your point is even more valid. Any community that puts such value on items such as purses, jeans, shoes, sunglasses etc that they are willing to commit crimes to obtain them, well I feel for that community. Atlanta is going to implode. Look what happened to Buckhead until the residents “took it back” the same thing is happening at Atlantic Station. Very Very Very Sad.

I just want to know why every single time I read one of these articles it turns into a racial issue. And if I have to say it is probably some predjudice white person that starts this crap. Get a life and keep it moving.

I have a question for you. If you have a problem with this city and the people in it, why are you still here? Nobody is forcing you to stay here. There are many places that you can go. Find one that you like and move there. Plain and simple.

All of you who are saying TI “made a mistake” are crazy. This was a convicted felon who made a conscious decision to buy assault rifles. He is now on his 3rd chance, not second.

I don’t care what color they are, we have WAY TOO MANY people in this country commiting seriou crime and many, many more laughing at it all and thinking “it’s no big deal, he just made a mistake”. It’s a sign the country is headed in the wrong direction. That is the real scary part. It will eventually bring this great country down, if an inordinate number of it’s citizen’s get way with crime.

I don’t know and can’t speak for Karen, but I can say I will not be driven from my home by the lowest common social denominator. I daily work to eliminate the mentality that I mentioned. I am a mentor/big brother and I volunteer with the Atlanta Boys and Girls club of Atlanta. It is a shame when a child I am working with tells me he was told to “quit trying to be white” because he was concerned with getting his school work done and entered a project in the science fair. I know this sounds egotistical but to be honest I believe if concerned involved citizens like myself left the city would crash and burn left to its own devices.

So what if he gets a movie deal!! He didn’t make a mistake, he knew what he was doing was wrong….its not like if he didn’t get caught trying to buy illegal guns he would of stopped and come out to the nation saying he made a mistake…he knew full well what he was doing…now he is accepting his fate, will do time or have a nice fine…then more power to him to line his pockets if someone or company wants to invest in him for movie deals, so be it!!

Why do you think the Blue Jean bandits risk prison to steal jeans. Perhaps it’s because they know some of these dumb azz people will buy designer jeans and not pay rent; they’ll buy designer jeans but they havee never been in a Barnes & Noble bookstore to uy their kids a book. Someone with bad hair, ugly teeth ann crusty feet will always be in the back of that Escalade, buying stolen clothes in SW DeKalb, waiting on a ‘goot deals’to come along in the form of robbers and thieves. They have no moral compass, no values. They rot society like it’s bad rancid meat. They destroy all the values people worked hard for, for decades, to create.

If you’re a parent and you don’t have a problem with TI being a role model for your kids….I feel for your kids. We have a lot better chocies of people to pick from then him. he knew what he was doing, it wasn’t his first time. Some of the post are over the top and just plain stupid but some have a valid point. It is up to us as parents to set and seek good examples for our kids and we have many good examples to select from. TI is NOT one of them !!!

See the thing that I have a problem with is that people like Karen, Jon, Lvnrt, and others have talked about all these problems, but do nothing to fix them. In the end people are products of their environments and have either of you looked at the environment that TI wasn raised in. Maybe you people should start doing something about the gentrification or the systematic racism(and yes I talk about racism because it is still a reality in our country)and stop sitting here and complaining about how Atlanta is going to “implode”. You talk about Atlantic Station but do you realize how many people lost their homes because of it. Stop looking at the problem and start looking for a SOLUTION!

TI.Keep up the good work. Your life is in God’s hand and you know it. Everyone has made mistakes but it is over now. I am a teacher and I know my students enjoy your entertaining but they also enjoy hearing about you as a family man also.

I think for the most part, what T.I done was wrong no doubt about it, but we all make mistakes. He has acknowledged his wrong doings and has excepted the punishment (imprisonment) and from what I here doing a very good job with the community service he is suppose to do as well. Let those who are guilty of leading a perfect life cast the first stone. You can be educated or uneducated and do stupid stuff, but it when you say ok this was a stupid thing I did and I need to change my ways and I need to find new people to hang out with and become a more responsible person in society now that I truly realize there are some young people who look up to me. So to you educated people thinking he doesn’t deserve a chance please rethink what you are saying. Because something can easily happen to you and it want even be your doing and you don’t want the bashing either that it would bring. Now if you do it again then shame on you.

Peace
