Usher’s “Here I Stand” Is No. 1

usherHEREISTANDlpcov-300.jpg

The official Nielsen SoundScan figures are in from Billboard magazine, and Atlanta superstar Usher’s latest CD, “Here I Stand,” sold 433,000 its first week in stores and will debut as the No. 1 album in the country next week.

Those numbers will also give “Here I Stand” the second-highest, first-week total this year; with Mariah Carey’s 463,000 still No. 1. But it’s still the highest debut by a male artist, of any genre, in 2008.

Were you among the hundreds of thousands who have already bought “Here I Stand”, and if so, how would you rate it? Catch him on Leno last night? Seen the video for his latest single, “Moving Mountains”? (If not, watch it HERE ).

And who do you think will have the biggest first-week haul of 2008? Insiders were projecting Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter III” (in stores next Tuesday) would do a million, before upset mixtape DJs started leaking it on their sites this week.

Even if you are not an Usher fan, you have to respect him. I love the album…but I have been a fan of his since debut album. It is a different vibe for him—you can hear the Robin Thicke influences on almost every track. If your looking for a club hopping CD, it’s not; if you TRULY like R&B, this is the album to get. Just about every song has a message to his fans and the media—he loves his wife. Is there anything wrong with that? Is his music bad now because he doesn’t talk about hitting the clubs and getting women? I think it’s a beautiful thing and a great message for others.

I really like this album. I have always preferred his ballads versus his club/dance tracks. I have been a fan since his first album. You can tell from the lyrics on this album, he is a man in love.

I am not crazy about the album—i am still listening to confessions and 8701. Because he has never let us down in the past I can let him off the hook on this album. I think what happened to him is what happened to Mary when she found love and was happy. He will probably do better next album. I only like 2 songs on the album. #2, #3. That moving mountains is made worse by the video—people want to see him dance—not climb mountains. I still love you though usher.

Usher has been working his promotional butt off the last couple weeks. He performed his new single on the SNL season finale, Dancing with the Stars finale, MTV Movie Awards commercials, and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

This is nothing to save on the R&B front. Hip Hop is another story. As for as the ablum goes I am not impressed. I have never really been an Usher fan. There are often too many stories flying around when his albums are ready to drop. If you music is that good just promote and drop your album.

Usher’s album is great. I love the ballads and I always like the fact that his songs have meaning. Always appear to be from his soul. Keep up the good work Usher. Hope 2 C U at camp this year.

If it will help hip hop go away (or toned down..is that too much to expect?)…I would buy ten copies of this and hand out to idiots in cars next to me, vibrating so bad the fillings in my teeth rattle. Marvin Gaye we sure miss you, brother.

A Clayton County high school science teacher was arrested Wednesday for allegedly telling a student he would “rip his eyeballs out” during a tirade days before school ended for the year. HA HA. Yet another great example of black leadership. Last week you also had that black sub-teacher beat up a student. NICE.

How am I ignorant? All I did was stated a fact. Blacks, including OBAMA BIN LADEN, are terrible leaders. If you thugs focused on your REAL problems as much as you do your terrible music, maybe you would live a better life.

I will not buy any of his music. He is no longer a child. Being a man he needs more life learning to get to a maturity. Where are the real men????

First Keith remove your head out of the toliet than come back on and perhaps you will have a clue. Black Leadership? Hmm..what do you call teachers sleeping with their male students (last I checked all were white) As for the teacher beating that student, if you hear the trash and threats from some of these over grown students you would change your tune. Had I been that teacher and that hussie hit me.I would have beat her azz like she stole something and be waiting on her mom and dad. As for the teacher talking about ripping his eyeballs out and killing his family that was way over the top. but teachers are human too. I will bet the student is an a hole with multi problems of disrupting the class. No I would not have threatened him but I would have kicked his tail out my class room and he would not return until he knew how to conduct himself. The pen is mightier than cursing and threathening. I would have told him to get out of my class and stand in the hall or send him to the principle. If he struck me I would have wore that tail out and be waiting on the parents.

I LOVE this Cd I think it is about time R&B made a come back. All this Rap (cuz hip hop is an art that most of the industry did not take the time to learn and master before they decided they wanted to…Rap) is getting whack! I am tired of hearing about “My money, my car, this hoe I did the other night, how much I smoke blah blah friggin blah” shut up! R&B is an art and I am glad that Usher has come back to the root of singing R&B. The greats sang about the some of the same things he is speaking about on this album. I think it is beautiful…why can’t we allow people to grow and transend? Stop being stuck in the past people…Usher clearly isn’t and I as a serious R&B fan am grateful for it.

AJC, WHY THIS IS STORY FRONT PAGE NEWS? ARE THERE NOT MORE IMPORTANT STORIES TO HIGHLIGHT????

By Vernon

I read the review in the AJC before the album came out and I MUST say it was completely off base. This album is the SH%T! If you got the album thinking you were getting Confessions Part II, then obviously you’re disappointed. My personal opinion is that this is album is well put together and delivered. The thing I like about Usher’s music is you can tell the growth in each album that he’s experiencing in his life. Obviously, he’s grown more in his life (married, newborn child, etc.) and that’s what he’s telling us about on this album.

After waiting how many years for a new cd from Usher, I was very disapointed in this project. Like the Janet Blogs, Usher used to be a trendsetter. With this cd, he sounds just like everyone else. Even the whiteboy Justin Timberlake’s recent project was way better with it’s dancefloor friendly jams not to mention a very funky HBO special…. Usher and Janet need to realize that they are putting out a product for public consumption and the public deserves more from those were once on top of their game….
