John Mayer coming to Encore Park
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Alpharetta’s Encore Park is moving beyond its “golden oldies” showcase for contemporary shine when singer-composer John Mayer visits the outdoor stage this summer.
The acoustic crooner will play the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park on Aug. 29. OneRepublic, who has had hits with “Apologize” and “Stop and Stare,” will open. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday though Ticketmaster.
Mayer launched his career playing nightclubs in Atlanta, and releasing his debut album “Inside Wants Out” in 1999 on an indie label.
Two years later he burst onto the major label scene with the platinum-selling release of “Room for Squares,” with Columbia subsidiary Aware Records.
The album, and two singles — “No Such Thing” and “Your Body Is A Wonderland” — made it into Billboard’s top 10, and “Wonderland” earned Mayer a Grammy.
His smooth vocals and affinity for acoustic melodies and full-blown rock bands made him a fan favorite.
Mayer’s debut album was re-released on Aware, and the follow-up U.S. tour produced the concert album “Any Given Thursday.”
In 2004, Mayer dropped “Heavier Things” with more platinum sales, featuring the Grammy-winning single “Daughters.”
Taking time off from recording, Mayer stripped down his sound and traveled the country with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan as the John Mayer Trio. The sold-out 2005 concert produced the live album “Try!”
“Continuum” was released the following year at No. 2 on the Billboard chart, and winning two Grammys for best pop vocal album and performance for the song “Waiting For The World To Change.”

It is SO NICE to be able to drive so short to see good music It is so nice to not have to worry about the ghetto where Lakewood is. Lakewood will end up shutting down at some point now that we have a nice, safe place to see good music. Notice how there are very few or NO rap/thug concerts planned at Encore Park. Smart people!

Boring. But then again, this qualifies as news to the AJC tabloid publication.

Am I the only John Mayer fan disgusted with the attitude portrayed in his song “Waiting for the World to Change?” As a voice for the viewpoint of his generation, Mayer gives us a clue to the attitude of apathy in the country - they’re all WAITING on the World to Change! Yep, someone else has to fix the ills of the country cause they can’t. This is the generation that’s the offspring of early boomers who faced the ills of society head on?? Pathetic!!

John Mayer’s music could only be more annoying if his name was Richard Marx. Yes, he can play guitar but his soft, breathy approach to the microphone is something you’d like to hear just before you tell your buddy you’re gay and lean in for a kiss. To quote Tony Soprano: “He’s a feg!”
And AJC: this is newsworthy because…? I mean, it’s not like T.I. had a bowel movement or something like that - that you guys jump all over. This is just some whiteboy guitar player - how does he make the news?

-very nice- I get to see my Mayer and not have to sit in 3 hours of Traffic- I wish he would stop being a douche and living in the tabloids. Encore REALLY needs to work on the parking situation though- my recommendation is to go eat at Little Alley on the same road- get a $5 cab over to drop you off right at the venue so you do not have to sit in traffic and pay way more to still walk and get a shuttle!

So the story about Ne-Yo is top on this page, and John Mayer is all the way at the bottom. Nevermind that John Mayer is SO MUCH BIGGER than Ne-Yo. It’s blatant racism, AJC style.

What is a Ne-Yo anyway? When I have kids, I think I will name them Ge-Sa.

Hey “Ne Yo?”, When was the last time there was an article about John Mayer in court… and when was the last time there was an article about a rapper in court?

It is amazing that people who display such poor sentence structure can make comments about others being “ghetto.” I have always thought of music(all kinds) as something to bring people together not to polarize them.

How awesome for Alpharetta! Although it’s a bit weird the article doesn’t mention the 5 Grammy nominations in 2007 for Continuum and in 2008 he won a Grammy for best pop vocal for Belief right up front. And that he is perhaps one of the best guitarist and blues players of the 21st century. Based on some of the ill informed comments I’ve seen here he may be too current for many of the local yokels.
