Usher is ‘Dancing with the Stars’

That’s right. Atlanta’s own R&B superstar Usher Raymond will perform during Monday night’s finale (8 p.m. on ABC).

The singer/actor/husband/father/businessman is scheduled to sing his chart-topping single “Love in the Club” (read story). He’s also expected to do a choreographed rendition of the hit single “Yeah”, joined by his dancers as well as some pros from “Dancing.”

And if all of this leaves you panting for more, don’t worry. Usher’s new CD, “Here I Stand,” hits stores on May 27.

Are you tuning in to see Usher perform? Or would you rather just see the “Dancing” stars?

Is Kenny Chesney Wrong?

Kenny Chesney won his fourth entertainer of the year award from the Academy of Country Music on Sunday night. After accepting, Chesney made some controversial remarks to the press backstage.

This year, the ACM allowed fans to vote in the entertainer of the year contest for the first time. Chesney criticized it as “a sweepstakes to see who can push people’s buttons the hardest on the Internet.” In previous years, the award has been voted on by music industry peers (a process similar to the Grammy Awards).

He brings up an interesting point. Should these awards be judged by the fans? After all, they’re the ones buying the CDs and the concert tickets. On the other hand, fans are casting their votes by doing just that, buying what the musicians are serving up and sending those hits up the charts. We already have fan-driven awards such as the American Music Awards and the CMT Music Awards, so is it wrong for Chesney to wish for awards shows that limit the voting to industry professionals?

Janet and T.I. Concert News

Part-time Atlantan Janet Jackson (top picture) has announced that she will tour for the first time in seven years, starting in September, with tickets going on sale June 7. (Read more here)

And this morning, Hot-107.9’s “A-Team” revealed that Atlanta rapper-actor T.I. (pictured below) will be a part of its annual “Birthday Bash” June 14 at Philips Arena.

It is believed to be T.I.’s first concert performance since his arrest on gun charges last October, hours before he was to take the Atlanta Civic Center stage as the top nominee at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.

(The Grammy winner has since pled guilty to those charges, in an agreement that requires at least 1,000 hours of community service followed by a sentence of one year and one day in prison).

As Jackson’s latest CD, “Discipline”, seems to have faded from the charts - and the radio dial — do you think a tour will be the spark she needs professionally? Planning to go? And what about T.I. — considering his recent troubles, and community service efforts, will it be appropriate for him to rap things such as “it’s hard to yell with the barrel in your mouth” (“Bring Em Out”)? Or contradictory?
