Eagles, Encore, 12,000 fans: The scene
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Eagles have been around since 1971.
Encore Park has been up and running since Saturday.
But the spankin’ new Alpharetta amphitheater turned to the well-aged rock vets Wednesday night to kick off its first rock concert of the season. The night was a dual opening: for Encore’s summer rock show season, and for the Eagles’ summer tour. Folks seemed impressed with Encore (the full name of which is Verizon Wireless Amphitheater at Encore Park), which feels like Chastain on steroids. It’s twice the size (it holds 12,000-plus to Chastain’s 6,500), and it still has that new arena smell.
The new facility got high marks from the crowd. “It’s awesome; it’s one of the best looking venues I’ve seen,” said Snellville’s Brian Warner, a student at Georgia Perimeter College. He and girlfriend Lindsey Newman sat on a plastic tarp on the large sloping rear lawn, where even the cheap seats go for $80 on this particular high-priced show.
Some folks started traditions right out of the gate. Randy and Linda Pulliam of Dacula and friends tailgated in the A parking lot, complete with covered table, lemon drop martinis, wine and a feast. Eagles songs blared from an iPod plugged into speakers in the back of their SUV.
The tailgaters caught the eye of Paul and Bowe Land of Roswell. “We saw the tailgaters and said damn, that looks like fun,” said Paul, while eating concession stand pizza from a cardboard box. “Next time we’ll get here early to try that.”
Unlike Chastain, there’s no picnicing inside. Also unlike Chastain, people seemed to be there more for the music than to chat. At Eagles prices - $190 for regular seats, $1,000 for front row through a “broker” - it pays to pay attention.
The Eagles gave value for those prices, however, playing 30 songs in a set that lasted way past three hours. About 10 of the songs were new ones from “Long Road Out of Eden,” the double CD they released last year, and the audience was respectful and sometimes even enthusiastic toward the new material.
But it was the oldies that made the venue go nuts, in a middle-aged way, from the chiming guitar intro to “Hotel California” to the old Joe Walsh material like “Life’s Been Good.” Walsh stole the show, and the others seemed happy to indulge him, from goofing with a “Helmet-Cam” pointed into the audience to tearing off amazing guitar licks. I saw Walsh and the Eagles almost 30 years ago, and while the band plays with an admirably consistent professionalism through the years, Walsh is the rock ‘n’ roll equivalent of single-malt Scotch.
The Eagles have three more shows scheduled at Encore on Friday, Saturday and next Tuesday. All are sold out, but there are tickets being offered on ebay. If your timing and luck are good you might score some without paying too much of a markup.

I’m going to try and see STP there later this summer. I hope the new park is better than Lakewood.

I am happy that people come for the music and I don’t have to trip over tables and picnic baskets. Chastain shows huge disrespect to the artists!!!

Nothing has been said about the planning and design of the facility. I live 3/4 of a mile from Encore Park on Maxwell Rd, and we dreaded the noise and traffic that was sure to follow, being familiar with the Chastain area. No traffic issues affected us and we hardly heard anything. We could hear what was probably the first song, then practically nothing outside. No noise inside our house. My compliments to the planners of the Encore Park and welcome to the neighborhood. Hopefully we can afford to go to a show there one day.

I been to many venues and Alpharetta amphitheater seem to be one of the best. In Atlanta it Ranks as number one for outdoor venues. The sound is 100 times better than Lakewood. Maybe my car will not be broken into their like At Lakewood parking lot. The Eagles were fantastic mixing up their set with songs from Joe Walsh and Don Henley solo careers. Compare this venue to Chastain can’t even begin. At least their is not a curfew in Alpharetta. Can not wait to see and hear how the next band will do at this venue.

Can’t wait to go. Got tickets to Eagles next Tuesday, Steve Miller on 26th, and Tom Petty later in season. Just wish I could afford to see more of the shows this summer.

The Venue was really nice and the Eagles were great, but the place does not have its act together from parking to not being able to hand cash back at the beer stands. Do not park in Parking Lot N. You have to take a shuttle to and from the concert which is very inconveinent and not run properly at all by whoever is in charge. Loved to go back but you better build a parking garage or get your act together in getting people to and from the concert or you are going to lose alot of patrons.

The venue is fine for what it is, a basic cookie-cutter amphitheater with little ambiance. If you love Joe Walsh, you’ll like this concert. If you wanted to actually hear the Eagles play songs you’re familiar with, you’re likely to be disappointed. And if, God help you, your parking pass says Shuttle Lot N, well, good luck and wear comfortable shoes. The shuttle lot is where most (all?) lawn patrons are forced to park. After the show, literally thousands of people were trying to board about 10 buses. Many people were jumping the line with no one to stop them, and after we did the math - figuring the wait would be an hour at best - we decided to walk the mile-and-a-half back to the lot. The route is unlit with no sidewalks for much of the way, but we had plenty of company dodging traffic. Until a realistic parking plan is implemented, stay away from this place unless you can afford the extortion they’re charging for a ticket that comes with on-site parking.

Good show. Nice venue. Food was good and moderately priced: $8 for a very big burger and fries and quite tasty. (But … Water and soda for $4 ????)
If you are parked at a satellite lot, the crowd leaving is not managed very well. Take some time and wander around the facility and take one of the last shuttles rather than get crushed by the crowd.

It must be what lot you’re in. We had Lot A and made it there and back from Mansell and 400 in 10 minutes, 15 minutes before the show started and middle of encore. Only complaint was length of show. I understand giving us money’s worth, but 11:15 and still hadn’t heard two of biggest songs (Take it Easy and Desperado; heard Take it Easy on way out)

First of all, the concert was great. It was a little heavy on the new material and missed some great songs they could’ve played, but that is true of every classic rock concert I’ve been to.
Second, the shuttle system was a bit disorganized but we parked and got on the shuttle and were at Encore in 10 minutes. Right after the last song, we boarded the shuttle after about a 10 minute wait, NOT an hour. Big deal.
Overall, great venue and great concert.

GREAT, GREAT SHOW! Totally worth every penny. The venue is wonderful with the exception of the Lot N parking situation. They’re going to need to work on a better solution or risk losing customers who are used to something more like the Chastain parking situation. But overall- what a night!!

Wasn’t complaining at all; knew the songs would be played, but you expect it before 11:20 on an 8:15 show. But it was a ton of value for the tickets, so no complaints at all.

Hey Brian, glad you only had a 10 minute wait. We also left immediately after the last song and the hour estimate I mentioned was from where we were in the line. We waited over 10 minutes and barely moved before deciding to walk. How’d you get up front?

Hmmm… Well, like any new venue, there are pros and cons — and some kinks to work out.
First off though, if you want to go and you don’t have tickets, check Ticketmaster. Yesterday on day off, they had tickets (at face) in Section 105 Rows E and F! You never know what they’ll release hours before the show!
Pros: Sound system was awesome (I read the symphony guy’s blog about the ASO sound… this was NOT an issue Wednesday night!). We sat on the lawn, but the grade/slope of the lawn made viewing great. If you sit on the lawn — BRING A SMALL-BACK lawn chair, or PAY THE 5 BUCKS to rent a chair! You will be very happy you did 4 hours later! The rented chairs even have cup holders! (note—see the web site for chair size limits. THe sign says they are NOT permitted inside, but they are if they’re small enough).
Middle of road: As for our parking—well we thankfully got a pass for Lot A. Even heading to the venue the line for the satellite lots looked nightmarish. Sorry for those who had to wait. We stayed til the lights went out, and got out like a breeze! I have no idea how we got back to GA 400 in the dark but we just followed the crowd and made it back, albeit one exit north of where we had exited to go to the show.
Cons: Concession lines were jammed before the show. The workers tried but seemed overwhelmed. They were adding up my order on a calculator and totally botched it up—overcharged me by 8 bucks (which they gave me back in cash), but only after consulting how to deal with it. The whole process for buying food seems extremely disorganized and if they’re not gonna allow food in there, they need to fix that.
The lawn, at least, is a crapshoot. True it’s not AS chatty as Chastain, but there was still chat around. And in very closed quarters, too. Also — smokers. Is smoking allowed in there? I would think not. But — there’s no sign saying so! If it’s banned (as it should be) they need to post signs and make announcements before the show. We had 3 smokers right next to us in the 2nd part of the show.
They RAN OUT of rented chairs before the show. Huh?
The video screens are LAME! For a new apmhithater, THAT’S all you can come up with? We had to squint to see Joe’s riffs.
Also— the website had some inaccuracies (like saying you get a dollar back for returning the rented chair. Not that we cared about that at all, but they shouldn’t have stuff like that on the site if it isn’t true).
All in all, it was fun —- and it was great that there is no curfew — -but I still prefer Chastain, especially with good seats. It’s a nice venue, but it is pretty generic.

The show was great but parking lot N was a nightmare. There were no markings in the huge lot to remind you where your car was. To make it worse, the shuttle bus dropped us off at the lot across the street and dozens of us wandered around looking for our cars pressing the “panic” button until someone suggested we go across the street. All of the bldgs looked alike so their were no landmarks. It took us 30 minutes to find our car. And I am not stupid.

Eagles were awesome. Amphitheatre was good. The logistics of parking, taking the shuttle to/from the venue and then returning to Lot N is just ridiculous. There was a crush of thousands of people waiting to get on the bus after the concert. A fight broke out between two drunks and there was NO security at all. In fairness, this was the first “test” of the facility but we will not come back unless and until the logistics are figured out and corrected. It is NOT safe as is.

Remember guys this was the opening night of a major act at a new venue. Over the course of the summer the kinks and issues will hopefully be worked out. Also, as fans become more familiar with the venue and the parking areas that will help with the problems. Remember there is no hindsight with a new venue with first time visitors. Usually, a bands set list will change over the course of 4 nights. Plenty times over the years I have said to someone they did not play that song the night I went.

B, you have a valid point, but the problem with the Lot N parking isn’t an opening night kink, it’s the plan itself. Getting to the venue from the shuttle lot isn’t a problem (if you’re early enough) because people are arriving at a staggered rate over time.
But after the show, several thousand people at once are funneled down into a small area to board buses. You could have fifty buses and it’s still going to take a looooong time to get all the people out, plus you have jerks jumping the line. What they should do is split up the boarding points somehow so all the people aren’t queued up in one place.
As for the show, Joe Walsh’s “music” is so different from the Eagles that it’s almost false advertising to call this an Eagles concert. They have so many great songs, and played so much from the new album, why do they fill time with Joe Walsh’s material?

I agree, there will need to be some changes made at the venue for the fans to have a better concert experience. Hopefully, this will be worked out over time.Hopefully, the venue has people who took notes last night and are listening to fans feedback. Fans going back over time to the venue will help. All of us that went to concerts at Lakewood over the years know about hindsight. I have told many friends I would not park there or do not walk alone there to get to your car or make sure you leave with a big crowd to get to your parking spot. Again, I am sure the logistics will be worked out over time.

All I could say during the concert was WOW! The Eagles provided a great mix of the old and new tunes, and put on one heck of a show! The venue was excellent (sound/seating/staff)and no long lines at the ladies room! Parking at lot N was the only hiccup, but I am sure they will learn from last nights’ issues and fix those problems.

Nine songs off of LROOE —which is a great album so I did enjoy the new material. Artists are never going to be able to please the entire fan base with their playist selection.
For me, I’d prefer for two new songs to be dropped, drop ASWTDID from Henley and one Walsh song —Funk #49.
Substitute with a couple of songs from On The Border —as no songs from this album are in the set (Already Gone, Best Of My Love, James Dean, On The Border, Good Day In Hell). Also throw in a couple of more songs from Hotel California —only two in the set (no New Kid In Town, Victim Of Love or Pretty Maids All In A Row).
The Eagles put on a fantastic show. I’ll be going on Saturday —also will be taking in Tom Petty/Steve Winwood and Rush this summer.

The Eagles were outstanding. This is the 3rd time I have seen them in Atlanta in the past 8 years and they sound better every time. Joe Walsh was the bomb! I enjoyed hearing their new songs (my favorites include How Long, Busy Being Fabulous, I Don’t Want to Hear Anymore), as well as their other great hits. Encore Park is a great venue.

Okay everything that everyone said positive about the EAGLES and more!! I loved the show. So many awesome memories of concerts long ago, but the weird thing is the crowd sure got a lot older!! LOL BUT Parking Lot N was the worst experience ever. I felt so sorry for the parking lot workers. (most of them VERY young) It would have been comical all of us walking around with our clickers in the air if it h ad not taken us 45 minutes to find out car. WORK THIS OUT FAST!! Maybe have Lot N stop numbers. Who knew their were multiple stops? The bus drivers sure didn’t! Our bus driver thought the Steve Miller Band was playing!!!!! I guess if it had been in the old days, we all would have just pulled up a curb and had a party!!!!

Concert rocked!! Wish I could make the Saturday night show. Break it down any way you like, but Eagle’s still give 150%!! Did not understand why 30 minutes before the venue opening, they hosed down the restrooms, leaving 1/4 inch of water, requiring the women to roll up there pants legs to keep them dry???? Can’t blame that on the Eagles. I have 2 reserved tickets for Saturday night, section 105 with parking pass in Lot C (no shuttle) $185.00 each. If I don’t sell them I will be back Saturday night to watch this awesome show and just roll my pants legs up when I go to the restroom. Hey! Life is good. If you want these two great tickets call me…770-846-7339.

I sat in Sec 102 and parked in lot C. The Eagles were great and they are true professional musicians. The sound was great (could have been a little louder). Left after the last song and was back on 400 within 10 minutes. Only criticism is concession stand needs to get orders faster. 15th person in line and it took 30 minutes to get order.

Overall experience was great. Travel in from the West to Lot N was a breeze. Shuttle to the park was great. The park itself is great but a few things we noticed should be reviewed. If you are on the lawn, the big screens are not very good. Maybe installing another set farther out could solve that. We walked up close and noticed the sound system was so much stronger than what you heard on the lawn. More speakers for us folks on the lawn. The ushers were trying to keep the isles clear on the lawn but as it got closer to showtime, people disregarded what they were told and filled the isles. Possibly white lines painted on the lawn designating the isles and having ushers which are assertive enough to keep people out. People which spread out a lrge blanket which could hold 4 or 5 but only 2 people there. The shuttle system back to lot N needs a lot of work. I am sure they will get it together as I saw a lot of confussion from the workers. This I am sure will get better over time. Traffic leaving and heading West was non-existant. Good show, good venue. We will be back.

The concert was absolutely fabulous! I am a HUGE Eagles fan, and I loved everything about it. The playlist was balanced, with a reasonable mixture of old and new. I adore Joe Walsh. After the career and life he has had to be able to play the way he can, he is truly gifted. Those of you who complained about his over-involvement must have forgotten the abundance of Henley-dominated tunes in the Hell Freezes Over Concert. I love Henley, too, and I didn’t complain then, either.
As far as I am concerned, the facility was excellent. Sitting outside on a lovely May evening, listening to my favorite group - life is good. We parked in Lot N also, and had no real complaints about the shuttle. Give me a break! We once went to Sea Pines in Hilton Head on 4th of July, and we were bussed to the marina for the fireworks cruise. It took over 2 hours to get everyone from Sea Pines marina to the remote parking! I thought they did a great job given the size of the crowd.
You can’t please everyone, but they did please me!!

I arrived at 7:15 PM heading for Lot A expecting to find a bumper to bumper jam, but was amazed to drive directly into the lot at regular speed. Congrats to the Alpharetta and Roswell police departments for their great traffic plan. They had temporary flashing directional signs on GA 400 telling which exits to use for which lot, plus on side streets permanent directional signs to lots, plus plenty of officers and traffic cones to make sure traffic flowed fast through intersections. Leaving just was as quick once I got out of the lot, but we sure could have used more amphitheater workers directing inside the lot to avoid jams. They were there when we arrived to park, but missing when we left to go home.

No matter the occasion, some people love to whine. I parked in Lot N, and had NO PROBLEMS - there were fifty buses lined up, not 10 - our bus had Oklahoma tags! Hats off to Encore Park - excellent job of crowd and parking control. For example, the Encore Park Seat Nazi, patrolling our section wouldn’t let anyone stand in front of us - thank you very much. For those whining about traffic, we started heading out as the band played Despardo (Glenn Frey told the audience that they were playing two more songs and they had just finished Take It Easy). Got home to Conyers in 60 minutes, including the bus trip back to Lot N. Regarding the show, the set was very interesting (don’t be late if you want to hear Hotel California). The new music was great, reminscent of all that is great about Henly’s genius, Glenn Frey’s easy going spirit, Joe Walsh’s (why is he an Eagle, anyway)nasally tone and Tim Schmidt’s wonderful tenor solos. I have to admit I had not heard the new album at all until Wednesday but bought it digitally on line yesterday. The best song of the night was totally unexpected - the Long Road Out title track - vintage Henley, with a typical hint of left-wingism; just enough to make you stop and say - maybe he’s got something there. For those of you upset that you didn’t hear James Dean or Already Gone, quit whining. They’ve been playing these same songs for 35 years. They busted their butts for three and half hours out there and seemed to love every minute - it ain’t 1978 anymore. It was all fantastic. My only regret - I’m not going again tonight.

The Eagles were incredible, enjoyed both the new music and the old. $7 for a 12 oz beer is crazy. The parking situation was horrible. I bought tickets the day they went of sale - and thanks to ticket master others waiting and got much better seats - I will NEVER purchase tickets through them again. I would love to see the show again - the Eagles really delivered !!!

I flew to Palm Springs on 5/2 to catch these guys at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio — well worth the trip. I’ve also got tickets for their Boston dates on 7/28 and 7/30, and if they make a stop in Albuquerque on this tour I’ll be there too. I’ve grown up with these guys, their music is timeless. Just like all of us they may be getting older but they just keep getting better.

How could I forget to mention…..there were so many smokers in the lawn! It was the only think I did not enjoy about the show. Smoking should be banned - and the ban should be enforced.

I went Friday night. The playlist was different from Thursday, but the group performed great. The voices were crisp and clear. Walsh stole the show, but everyone was on top of their game. The back-up band was great also. I really liked the attire, the background screen and the attitude of everyone performing.

We went on Wednesday night. The concert was awesome, fantastic, best I’ve been to ever! Three hours of the Eagles is NOT enough. We stayed through the last song, then walked out, got on a shuttle bus to Lot N, found our car easily, and were on the road to home within 30 minutes. No, we didn’t get out of line or jump in front of people, and there were a lot more than 10 buses. It’s a new venue so people are going to have to work out the kinks. One complaint—we were in row T section 103, and people a few rows down stood up for the entire concert, so if we wanted to see anything, we had to stand up, which meant we were blocking the people behind us, etc. The ushers couldn’t get people to sit down and just finally gave up trying. There was lots of grumbling around us about that, but….it’s a rock concert, right?

It’s rock and roll. I normally stand up the entire show. I think it’s insulting to any performer to sit there on your duff while they’re up there giving it their all.

As a former Californian now living in Georgia I was not impressed with the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. The Eagles are a group creating a sound very similar to a studio recording. The individual performers all dressed in suit and tie appeared to be an extension of Corporate America. An old school fan would find the band’s appearance odd to say the least and sold out to the almighty dollar to say the most.
We were only able to obtain lawn tickets. The sound system could not overcome the drunken crowd noise. The stage was difficult to see. My wife and I primarily watched the show on the big screen. In addition to the below average sound and not being able to see the stage, we did not enjoy drunks falling into us. The weather was cold and windy. All of these factors combined with parking and transportation issues made for a miserable time. It would have been more enjoyable and cost effective to buy an Eagles’ DVD and watch it in my home.
After talking with a fan attending the previous night’s show we were advised to leave early and avoid the bus lines. We took his advice and decided to leave at the first encore. I can’t imagine staying until the show was over and dealing with the line for the bus, drunks and parking lot congestion.
I suppose some would argue our seating was the cause of lack of a good time. I would agree with their conclusion. My wife and I tried to obtain seats when tickets initially went on sale online to the general public. Obviously if you are able to get pre-general public sales tickets you will get better seats and avoid several levels of retail price mark up. A co-worker had a couple of extra tickets he could not use and we were able to buy them. We paid the face value for the tickets.
Even though we were fortunate in obtaining tickets, we think we paid too much for the product we received. I suppose as self proclaimed middle class American I should be used to paying a lot and getting very little. We are being ripped off by Corporate America on a daily basis. Why should an Eagles’ concert be any different?
With regard to the Eagles and Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, I say, “fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”

Last nights show was outstanding. sorry for all you N folks. I parked in the C lot and walked about 50 yards to the entrance! Very windy and cold but no rain! the set list seemed to be the same as what was posted for Wednesday’s concert. Loved the venue. You can hear the music from anywhere…even in the restrooms! Can’t wait to come back and see Stevie, Tom, and Styx this summer! Great time..no complaints!

I just got home from the Saturday night show. I parked in A lot and arrived around 5:00. Got very good parking. Walk to the West gate was not long. Went to the gate around 5:45 with my short sand chair and was 5th in line for the gate to open. I got a center lawn spot near an aisle and two rows up on the grass. The show was great. Yes, by the end of the show there were some jolly folks. None ruined the show for me. There was some chatter during the show but none ruined the music for me. I stayed at my seat through the last song and stopped by the t-shirt vendor. Exiting the parking lot was efficient. Overall, got to car by 11:30 and was home in Fayetteville by 1AM. I thought the show was well produced with several encore songs.

We went to the Eagles on Saturday night. We bought seat tickets early in middle section and paid over $400 for 2. The way the amphitheatre is built you can’t see anything in the seats including the side tv screens if there is a group in front of you standing up. Security can ask them to sit down but can’t make them as long as they are in their seats. We spent 30 minutes in our $400 seats and then finally moved back and stood for the rest of the concert and actually could see better. Don’t WASTE your money on seats - use the lawn. EAGLES were awesome but this facility has many people complaining about the lack of stage view from the seats.

I went to both Wednesday and Saturday shows. Orchestra seats Wednesday and lawn on Saturday. I enjoyed both shows, although I did have to stand the whole show in the archestra seats. Not bad site lines, just enthusiastic people that wanted to stand and dance. As for noise, it is a concert, it is live, pople talk, get over it. I paid one third the amount for the lawns seats, but did not feel my experince was that much less.
The facility is great, you can get around quickly, even when it was maxed out with people, hear the music everywhere, and though there are lines at the concessions, the lines move quickly. A lot of the bugs that were apparent on Wednesday seemed to be better. I give them credit, from zero too 48,000 fans in 4 shows. It is quite a learning curve. As for the Eagles, they were awesome, gave you more than your moneys worth, but I also thought the black suits were out of place. They do a montage of the Eagles pictures from earlier years, always dressed hip, but now suits? I like the place, I will be back a lot this summer.

Parkning lot N has 2 sections , the people tell you which one when you park and the driver says there are 2 stops, people too busy talking to listen or too drunk just jumped off bus at 1st stop then stood there complaining becasue they got off at wrong stop, there were at least 50 buses with a dedicated route that took 5 minutes and we were out of parking lot in 1 minute, far better then sitting in a huge lot for an hour with you car running like Lakewood or Phillips, food, beer and restrooms lines moved fast , only complaint is some people on lawn thought it was Chastain and felt like if not an old Eagles song they could talk at the top of their lungs and complain about everything , I guess they figured the rest of us paid $70 to hear them talk , also lawn rental chairs were nto the best quality , we saw three break from people just sitting in them around us.

No complaints here.
Saturday nights show was almost perfect. The set list remained the same from the previous two evenings —I would have preferred a song or two off of the non-represented ‘On The Border’ album, not to mention a song or two more from ‘Hotel California’, in place of a Henley and Walsh tune apiece, as well as one or two new songs, but I’m not complaining.
There were several highlights: Hotel California, I Can’t Tell You Why, Witchy Woman, In The City, Take It To The Limit, One Of These Nights, Life’s Been Good, Rocky Mountain Way —but the show-stealer was Long Road Out Of Eden —incredible. On the flipside, a couple of minor disappointments were The Boys Of Summer (seemed listless) and Funk #49 (obviously in the set to allow the horn section to stretch out and ‘blow’ off some steam).
My wife and I had the $65 lawn seats (along with the $12.85 per ticket convenience charge and $5.10 processing fees —sucks when you pay 1/2 of a price of a ticket in fees)
We arrived at Lot A at 5:30, tailgated until 6:45, entered the venue (where the height of my newly-purchased beach chairs came in question —they were the required 9” off of the ground, but the back is about 6” higher that the rentals —I got ‘em through the gate). Set up camp just left of center, about 10 rows back, went and bought t-shirts, walked around and checked the place out. It’s a very nice venue.
As I said the show was awesome —and by the way, the sound was just fine and I don’t know how anybody could say different.
We packed up in the middle of Desperado, were outside the gate at 11:30, were headed N on 400 at 11:38 and pulled into the driveway off of exit 16 at 11:56. My thanks to the venue employees and the Alpharetta police for a fantastic job —well done!
All in all, one of the best concerts I have ever been to —solely based on the talent of the performers, THE BEST concert I have ever attended. Thank you EAGLES!

I’m going to Tuesday’s show. How much are t-shirts? And what about cameras? Do they let you in with a professional-type camera? Or a point-and-shoot type?

I saw people with small basic aim/shoot cameras as well as snapping with cell phone cameras. No doubt a big honking professional camera might be banned.
The t-shirts are $30 - $35 in several designs.

Went to the Saturday night’s concert and, like Mark above, found it almost perfect. I had seen the Eagles and Nashville several years ago and loved it as much since it was ALL of their old numbers. I really would have loved to hear “New Kid in Town” but it wasn’t on the playlist. I agree with Mark, the show-stealer was Long Road Out Of Eden, so I wouldn’t have traded it for New Kid. I’m sure everyone would have liked to switch out a couple of songs. They are all so talented and can perform at a live concert and sound just like the record. Joe Walsh is not human—it is so entertaining watching him make his faces as he tears up the lead guitar. I loved the Amphitheater and the crowd. I felt like I was partying with 12,000 of my good friends. My only complaint is with Ticketmaster. They are such a monopoly that they can do pretty much whatever the hell they want to. I bought my $185 seats as soon as they went on sale and ended up in Section 105 near the back. 2 weeks later there were much better seats on sale in center section 103. How does that work??? And I pay $185 each for my 4 tickets in the first hour of the sale and end up with 1 Lot N Shuttle parking pass. Several people above bought $85 lawn seats and end up wih Lot A parking passes??? Something is definitely wrong with their system. That is just not fair or logical. But Ticketmaster sucks the same for all concerts and I didn’t let my unhappiness with them ruin this great entertainment experience. I just hope they get back to the South one more time.

I went to Saturday’s night show. and it was awesome. We had lawn seats, I did feel like the prices were too high for food and drink. The tickets were expensive, but we felt like the Eagles were worth the price. But we can’t afford to eat at the venue. We had to park in the N lot. The line was kept moving, sure we had to shuffle a bit, but we didn’t take all night to get out. There were some people who tried to break in line but there were security people to put them back in their place. So evidently they worked out the “bugs” from the first show. I think the parking lots are a great idea. Because at least that way, you don’t have everyone trying to get out of the same parking lot at the same time. I agree that Ticketmaster is a ripoff. It is strange to me how they can be sold out of tickets but then pass you on to Tickets now, so that you can pay double or triple the price for tickets. And then they charge us anywhere between 6-15 dollars convenience fee, and they also charge us to print our own tickets? What’s up with that? What can we do to stop this? Even with gas prices, if you live even within 30 minutes or so of the venue, it’s cheaper to go to the box office and buy them.

I went to 2 shows and on the second i parked at an outlying lot. The pay was only $5 and it was easy to get in and out of. If you have Lot N, just go park at a charge lot closer to the amphitheater.

VWA is an incredibly enjoyable venue for outdoor concert-going. The City of Alpharetta has spared no expense in tackling the task of accommodating 12,000 patrons, and their efforts were both well-thought-out and effectively, efficiently executed. My only audio criticism, a minor one, is that the sound for those on the lawn needs to be addressed, especially regarding the bass end which seemed to get trapped in the lower reserved seating levels as a result of the lay of the land. Because the covering over the reserved seating is fabric, there is no boominess or reverberation of the sound, but the speakers mounted on the outer edges of the roofing frame expressly for the lawn patrons need to be turned up a bit with some woofer units installed to boost the bass end. That being said, my concert experience at the Saturday night Eagles show not only far-surpassed my expectations logistically, but was one of the best outdoor events I have ever attended. Kudos to all involved in making VWA at Encore Park a showcase venue! DO NOT FEAR the shuttle lot parking. If it continues to be handled as well as it was Saturday night, you need not rush out of the concert early to avoid long waits for the shuttle buses. They’ll be waiting for you whenever you’re ready to leave and will get you to your car surprisingly quickly. Same with arriving…no need to get there hours early to get to the venue on time. They do need dirctional signs which point drivers toward North or South exit routes. When we left we didn’t know where we were headed and the signs took us to Old Milton Pkwy. to get on 400, which is 2 exits farther north than the one we arrived at, Mansell Rd. Be aware! Even though they rent lawn chairs to those sitting in that area for a reasonable $5, you might consider bringing yours from home (low-slung beach chairs only) as the ones they provided were cheap and many collapsed. The sight lines no matter where you sit are superb. We sat right in the front of the lawn area, and while binoculars would be a good idea, at no time was our view of the stage obstructed by wanderers. By the way, at this time of the year the sun sets behind the stage to the audience’s left and is quite blinding for about 30 minutes before it finally goes down. As we get more into summer, the sun will be setting long after the shows are underway (they waited until 8:15 to start the Eagles show when the sun finally had gone down, BUT the sunset was breath-taking and actually added to the spectacular visuals…thank you, God!). Be prepared with sunglasses or hats, especially if you’re sitting in the sections to the left of the stage. Finally, I would mention food. While there is not great variety, what they do have is substantial and not too outrageously priced. Tail-gating is optimal no matter where you park, but once you get inside there’s plenty to munch on. Drinks and ice cream (Bruster’s) are the most over-priced items while sandwiches were actually fairly reasonable because of their quantity and quality. The long lines into the restrooms went very quickly, but the food lines were deadly slow as the concessions were manned mostly by high-schoolers and the food was thankfully not pre-prepared, making it more worth the wait. One last thing…the wind whips pretty strongly up on the lawn area as it is at the top of the hillside at an already relatively high elevation, so bring some layers of clothing and maybe even a blanket to put over you if the nighttime temps are not predicted to be especially moderate. I hope this info helps you prepare for a GREAT concert experince at VWA! It is definitely a top-notch venue and someplace music will be presented well and enjoyed for many years to come.

I attended the Eagles Saturday night. The facility looks great BUT…once you take your $185 seat in Sections 101-104 and you are there to watch TV. You certainly cannot see the stage without craning your neck from side to side as the person does the same thing. The slope/pitch of the rows is not great enough for you to see over the person in front of you.
Food and drink prices are ridiculous.
Score 3 for Chastain. More intimate (despite the chatty atmosphere), for most of the shows you can bring in food and drink and you can actually see the entire show while seated!
I’ll take Chastain. Oh yeah, the Eagles were great! Without Joe Walsh, they are a damn good country band. With Walsh, a terrific rock band.

If you want preferred parking, you have to pay for it. You are purchasing a concert ticket, not a parking permit. I heard you could buy a premium parking spot for $25. Is that worth it?
We had lawn tix for Fri. night. The show was great. I’m not a huge Joe Walsh fan, but he was awesome. Thought the venue was fine. Only good things to say, other than the night was chilly…and we had blankets!
Parked in Lot A. We lined up at 6, were let in at 6:30. Had a great spot, front and center…on the lawn. And, we got our rental chairs for free! The $13 margarita was a rip-off, though. Stayed thru the entire concert, even waited to let some of the crowd out, got in our car, dropped our friends off and were home by 12:15. Great night.

We saw the Eagles Tuesday night. It was a great show but we had to leave early (around 11 p.m.) because we were freezing after being soaked by the rain. What were the final songs? Did they play Take it Easy, Desperado, Life in the Fast Lane or Tequila Sunrise? Just curious what we missed. Thanks!

We sat on the lawn and this place rocks. The sound was crystal clear and loud ! Hope this trend continues with other acts. The sight lines are great, the show was sold out but getting around the venue was a breeze. The Eagles set was amazing. Only wish they had mixed up af ew songs in the setlist. For Liz, the last encores were Take It to The Limit and Desperado. Identical setlist each night. No Tequilla Sunrise in teh set, that was in the cocktail glass before the show.

I must say, when you go to an OTP concert you get an OTP crowd. The concert was awesome, but when asked how it compared to the Farewell tour, I thought, I didn’t get yelled at for standing and dancing and cheering and singing at Phillips. Seriously. We were near the front of the lawn, and when the Eagles came out and opened up we stood up and cheered and danced. Then some folks behind us were yelling to sit down. We turned around thinking it was a few “sitters” but no, the whole lawn was sitting. I can understand for some of the slower tunes. But, I don’t think I ever have sat at ROCK concert before. So we politely moved to avoid the bore of the people around us and found an area where we could stand without getting yelled at. We won’t go back. I’ll take Lakewood Amphitheater over this venue anyday, they have better prices and a way better crowd.

We went to the Tuesday show. We were on row A,seat 1&2 & I am an old hippie & love it loud but we were sitting below the large bank of speakers. It was very clean but so loud if i had not know the lyrics I would have been lost on most songs. It was still great. We were able to do some undercover photo shots but were warned several times. I would like to thank the ushers & security for keeping people from taking over the isles. They had to repeatedly make unruly & sometimes drunk folks from ruining the view. I love to drink & have a good time but even when i WAS drunk i didn’t talk LOUDLY as the people behind us. They came from the cheap seats & found empty seats behind us. Finally the usher told them to stop. The storm really made a mess in the lower lot C. I had to wipe mud off my car door to open it. My wife ruined her shoes. That was more mother nature than the venue. The staff & police were great. I wish I could have left the way I came but it was blocked off. I followed the other cars and hit 400 at Old Milton. On the way to concert I exited Mansel to lot C. When i go again iI will get seats on the other end of the center row to more enjoy the sound. We recently went to the Fox & Cobb Energy Center & the sound was perfect. I know an out door concert is difficult,Especially for 12,000. Perhaps not having to depend on the front speakers to reach the rear should be considered. Since the design is for a flat surface to accommodate the table seating sacrafices the normal pitch in a concert venue. AGAIN we have to cater to the ASO & there demand for table seating but I doubt the Eagles woul have appeared if not for Alpharetta Amphitheatre. It was worth the $900 we paid.
