Dancing With Atlanta Star Tonight

sonia.1213.JPG

Look closely at the Michael Jackson tribute tonight on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars”, and you’ll see Atlanta’s own Eshe of Grammy-winning rap group Arrested Development.

Travis Payne choreographed the medley - which will also feature R&B singer Omarion - and solicited the fellow Atlantan (pictured above, left, with former AD member Dionne Farris).

“I submitted my piece in April, an African dance to ‘Wanna Be Starting Something’,” Eshe said. “And by the end of the month I was in L.A. at rehearsals.”

The tribute was actually taped May 6, the dancer/singer added. “And it was so great because ‘Dancing With The Stars’ tapes right next to ‘American Idol’, and [‘Idol’] was doing its 100th episode. Everyone was there, and I got to meet a lot of people — Vivica Fox, Paula Abdul, Raven Symone, Marques Houston, Chris Stokes; and everybody was so cool.”

“The whole experience was just incredible,” continued Eshe, who along with AD, just completed another campaign stop/performance with Barack Obama; as well as a charity performance for Josh Rifkind’s “500 Songs For Kids” at Smith’s Olde Bar. “And I’m praying that from this experience, I can be a contestant [on ‘Dancing’]. Because dancing is my first love…and I believe I am the first hip-hop female artist to be on that show.”

Are you an Arrested Development fan? A “Dancing With The Stars” watcher? Think Eshe would make a good contestant?

I believe Eshe would make a great candidate for the show. Eshe has nurtured me over the years as I grew up under her wing to be inspired by music and dance. I believe that there are many individuals who are overlooked which make huge impacts on the world of dance and Eshe is one of them. Hats off to you Eshe, and good luck with your future endeavors!!!

If she wants to be a contestant on DWTS so bad, maybe she should figure out that DWTS is the one who had their 100th episode last week, not Idol.

The first of four sold out Eagles concerts at the new Encore Park in Alpharetta is tonight —14th, 16th, 17th & 20th. So here I am reading the ‘Atlanta Music Scene’ section of the ajc —you know, looking for an article of some kind regarding this big event that is the story of the Atlanta Music Scene for the next week.

Well, it should be the story —but of course it is not. Instead I’m reading about somebody —who apparently does not have a last name— being on DWTS.

How inept.

It’s amazing how dumb people can be. If you had TRUE musical love and respect you would enjoy all kinds of music and be interested in the folks who perform and create it. This woman with 1 name is a 2 Grammy winner, NAACP award winner and quadruple platinum artist! She also made history as the first female hip hop artist on DWTS! Why not embrace the fact that she is awesome at what she does which is singing and dancing instead of hating on her. It is news…one of our own Atlantan’s is doing something exciting, positive and creative…and she didn’t have to dance naked, demean herself or other women or perpetuate a stereotype..how bout that.
