Steve Miller Band and Joe Cocker tickets on sale Thursday
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Steve Miller Band and Joe Cocker, classic rockers from the 60’s and ’70s, will kick off summer with a concert in Alpharetta.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday, for the “97 Days of Summer” concert, the annual show sponsored by retro radio channel 97.1, The River.
The May 26 show adds to the growing list of resurgent rock groups making stops at the soon-to-open Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park.
The Steve Miller band made a run through the late ’60s and ’70s with hit tunes like “Fly Like An Eagle,” “Abracadabra,” “The Joker,” and “Take The Money And Run.”
Samples from many of these have been used in recent hip-hop and club tracks, creating a fresh audience.
English rocker Joe Cocker’s gravelly voice was immortalized when “Up Where We Belong” played in the Oscar-winning “An Officer and a Gentleman.”
Other noteable hits from the Woodstock alum include “You Can Leave Your Hat On,” and a soulful rendition of Bruce Fisher and Billy Preston’s “You Are So Beautiful.”
For tickets, contact Ticketmaster or call 404-249-6400.

Who cares about the Steve Miller Bland?…when is OZZY coming to Atlanta? It has been 5 years since he played the Capital of the South.

I’ll never visit the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - I live in Henry County, not worth the drive.

I can’t wait to check out the new Amphitheater. I’ve lived in Gwinnett & Jackson Counties for the past 20 years and it will be nice not having to make the trek through downtown Atlanta to see a worthwhile show.

Can you bring in food and drinks at the Verizon venue, like at Chastain?

Because I live near the Gwinnett Arena, I don’t have to make long drives to see a quality concert. Gwinnett Arena is SO much better than Phillips Arena.

From what I’ve read, there are some table set up shows, but expect them to be for shows like Atlanta Symphony. There will most certainly be ZERO shows of the caliber and popularity of Steve Miller & such that have tables - it just won’t happen. On top of that, I can almost guarantee that you will not be allowed to bring in outside food & drink, you’ll have to buy from on site caterers like at the Atlanta Botanical garden shows. Chastain is a very, very, very rare venue to allow this.
Hey Koz - stay there in Henry county, we don’t need anymore traffic and rednecks up here.

I remember seeing Steve Miller at the Fox about 20 years ago. It was a great show. It was the tour when he played two sets - the first a blues/jazz set and the second his rock set.
I am glad to know that two classic rockers are still at it.

I saw Steve Miller @ Chastain last summer. I will have to say, that was one of the best concerts I have seen in quite some time. I plan on being there.

Thanks Koz for not driving up here & bringing the fine culture that you enjoy in dumpy Henry County.
