T.I.’s Last Appearance On Stage
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Hold on now - don’t let that headline alarm you.
Last we heard, the Atlanta artist born Clifford Harris Jr. (above), better known as rapper-actor T.I., was still and, well, as well as can be expected when you’re at your lakefront estate on house arrest, facing charges of trying to buy machine guns and awaiting the birth of his fourth son.
This post is about the DVD fellow AJCer Jill Vejnoska (a.k.a. Mariah) so graciously left on our desk some weeks before it hits stores: BET’s Hip Hop Awards 2007.
Now you may be saying to yourself, “So what? I’ve already seen that show at least half of the zillion times it’s been replayed on TV. Why would I buy it?”
Well clearly the folks putting this out are betting you’ll plunk down $19.99 on one thing you could not have seen in those zillion replays, no matter how many carrots you’ve been eating: Footage of T.I.’s rehearsals shortly before he was arrested blocks away from the Atlanta Civic Center on the aforementioned gun charges.
So is it worth it? Mmmmm, you know, you can’t help but look especially hard at him, and wonder what’s going on behind the wraparound sun glasses, and underneath the wool cap he’s wearing. (He surely doesn’t look out of the ordinary, nor is he acting the anxious way one might expect someone to act who is allegedly about to buy guns and silencers.)
You can’t help but listen a little closer during the performances of “Hurt” and “You Know What It Is” when he says things like “I ain’t scared of the law”, “I’ve got an AK and you don’t” and “I still keep that thang, right up under my shirt” - again, considering what happened after the rehearsals.
And at the same time you can’t help but still be engaged by what is- even at a rehearsal, even with all that’s unfortunate surrounding T.I. now - an electric performance.
Would you be willing to plunk down a 20 to see it March 18? Where do you think T.I. ranks in terms of performers? And do you believe his recent troubles have hurt or helped him as a recording artist?

no, i won’t spend $20 on this dvd! my boys need summer clothes. lol. only a true true fan would buy this only to put with the already cherished collection of rap stuff. he’s a ok performer to me, but to rap fans “he’s the king”! his troubles have not hurt him one bit. here in the atl, we (not me) support all of the wrongdoings by these people.

well, i do love his music but do not plan to buy this dvd. i would not say we support their wrongdoings because i believe what he did was wrong. please don’t mistake a fan’s love for a persons talent for upholding them in their criminal acts.

i would never do that. i like him for what he does on stage, but you won’t see me outside the court house screaming his name and yelling “keep ya head up!” he should be in jail right now, not at home chillin’.

Where does he rank? - TT answered that question already - King of da South.
His troubles shouldn’t matter because that’s personally & doesn’t stop his talent. Keep rollin TT…

The existence of a DVD featuring him, and this ajc article and blog are testament of his legendary status; and fans who aren’t feeling the effects of the current economy will easily give up $20 to see T.I.

I wouldn’t pay $20 for an entire DVD of him, definitely not this. His music is okay, but not something I would buy, per se.

I wouldn’t pay $20 for his entire musical catalogue including the DVD!
And that’s coming from someone who likes Texas Instruments… but why would anybody pay for his music when all they have to do is turn on the radio and - whoomp - there it is!
I got 6 kids and 3 of ‘em need new kicks. And my rims payment is due this month too. So unless his C-deez start including Nike vouchers, I ain’t buyin’ that sheeeet.

This should be a lesson to all people young and old. Don’t smell yourself to much. You might stink.T.I. was a tad bit arragont and it caught up with him.Now his career is over. Like the blink of and eye, thats how you can ruin your life.I love the brotha. I’m sure hes nice when you get to know him. But he has really messed up this time. It’s sad.

Hell yeah!! Tip is the truth and any true fan will support his music. Please remember that he was only accused of these crimes and have not been proven to be guilty so let’s not get it twisted! Crap I just went to his Streetcred.com site and signed up for membership.

Buying this thug’s merchandise only increases his bankroll to commit more crime. Where did he get the money to buy those guns? From album and merchandise sales. Where did Vick get the money to fund his dog fighting ring? From his contract. When will people start to look at character and morals?
