Stevie Nicks plans concert in Alpharetta
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park continues its parade of classic rockers with the announcement of Stevie Nicks’ June 10 concert.
The pop soloist and one-time Fleetwood Mac frontwoman swings her now-five-date 2008 tour through Alpharetta. 
Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster outlets.
Known for her work with the on-again, off-again Fleetwood Mac, Nicks’ solo ventures during the ’80s helped to fortify an already impressive musical resume she had with the band.
The Mac album “Rumors” and her first solo project “Bella Donna” made her a star. And singles like “Gypsy,” (Watch video) from Fleetwood Mac’s 1982 “Mirage” LP, or singular tunes “Stand Back” (Watch Video) and “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” (Watch video) helped cement her place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Nicks joins the list of throwback artists either making comebacks with recent albums (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers or The Eagles) or reviving old material (Rod Stewart) at the open-air venue (CHECK SHOW DATES).
Owned and operated by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the $35 million outdoor amphitheater will seat 12,000 in a mixture of open lawn space, reserved seating and tables.
In addition to the bevy of rock acts, ASO will fill out the bill with a number of performances, beginning with the venue’s opening concert on May 10.

So now there is a new venue where aging rockers can ply their wares and tickemaster can fleece more flock. I stopped going to concerts long ago, between the snooty and the obnoxious it became too much. Most of these artists are past their prime anyway. As long as youtube is around I can watch these blokes from the comfort of my home DOWNTOWN!

I think Mr. Donald has a bad case of “snooty” and “obnoxious” himself…He obviously fancies himself superior to suburbanites. Tis a pity he can’t won’t allow himself to enjoy a beautiful outdoor venue with a great singer.

Past there prime? —hardly.
The Eagles sounded great on the CMA a few weeks back. Long Road Out Of Eden is a very fine album.
Rush —the most talented trio in the history of rock— were in top form when the Snakes and Arrows tour rolled through Atlanta last year.
Tom Petty —who has one of the more consistent catalogs in rock— sounded just fine playing the Super Bowl.
To each his own —but I’ll be at VWA@EP for these shows and more!

For years, we suburbanites have been traveling to downtown or Lakewood for shows, and now that we have some venues in our area, the spoiled intowners are whining. It’s just as far to Alpharetta from downtown as was our trip the other way. But then the Eagles are all sold out and Petty nearly is, so the market up here does not need the Donalds of the world.

It’s clearly evident that the nitwits who responded to my comments did not read it fully. First of all, I could care less where the venue is because these aged rockers are past their prime. Believe me, I loved the music by these artists, but the whole ticketmaster, make life an event deal has gotten to be too much. It’s not about the music anymore, it’s all about greed by folks who can’t even sing a note! As far as OTP is concerned, you folks are not special, I mean give me a break!! Like you have no interest coming downtown, I certainly have no interest coming there and I used to live in Duluth!!

Donald, if you don’t like the artists or don’t go to concerts anymore, why did you feel the need to mention you lived downtown(in all caps)? Seems you were trying to make some sort of point about the location, and I thought it was that you somehow resented that suburbia now has a few nice venues. I see now you just wanted us to know how superior you feel; thanks for clearing that up.
