Number Ones All Around For Atlantans

janetnumberone.jpg
usherone.jpg

Part-time Atlantan Janet Jackson will have her first No. 1 album debut in almost seven years next week, and fellow Atlanta R&B superstar Usher will have the country’s No. 1 single.

Jackson’s new CD “Discipline” sold more than 181, 075 copies its first week in stores, rocketing it to the top of The Billboard 200 chart. The last time Jackson (right) did those kind of SoundScan numbers was with her “All For You” album in May of 2001.

Meanwhile, over on Billboard magazine’s Hot 100 chart, Usher’s “Love In This Club,” featuring Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy (and produced by breakout local talent Polow Da Don) has made a remarkable leap from No. 51 to the top of that listing. Plus the first single from Usher’s (left) upcoming June release — yes, there’s an official title now: “Here I Stand” — is also SoundScan’s top digital track, as well as iTunes’ No. 1 during the first week of its release. That makes Usher’s eighth No. 1 single.

Have you bought “Discipline” or “Love In This Club”? What do you think of the album and/or the single? And about Usher in particular, are you looking forward to his return to music?

I bought Dicipline because I’ve bought every Janet Jackson release for the last 20 years. But Dicipline is definitely her best CD this decade, up there with All For You in that it’s Classic Janet/Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis style smooth melodies with the tip from today’s hot producers, satisfying both her old school fans like me and today’s generation. Janet still rules!

I think they’re both wack! But if they drop a few more hot singles I’ll buy it.

Usher’s new song is so hot - it’s ridiculous. He took seduction to a whole new level. I need all guys to refer to verse #1 and take notes. Even the most prude individual can somewhat envision what making love in the club could be like ;-). He brought that fire on this one.

I like Usher’s new song…but it’s going to take more than that 1 single for him to get it back! Chris Brown has it on lock right now…sorry!

Usher new single “Love In This Club” with Jezzy, is the thing right now. I play it over and over again and even request it at the club. Chris Brown okay, but he can’t touch Usher.

Ok, seriously…1) are these Usher’s A&R people posting? The song is not that not hot, and I am an Usher fan…LOL

2) How is it #1 on the Billboard 100…I live in the #3 market, Chicago and they just started playing it in the last few days…its not even in heavy rotation on any of the top stations—-urban contemporary, top 40, none of them.

Too funny.

This is definitely the best CD Janet has put out in a decade! You never have have to skip a track! Every song is noteworthy! You will not be disappointed! I truly hope she gets the airplay it deserves.

“Luv in the Club” is the bomb! I never thought I would hear where Jeezy talked about something other than selling dope, even though he had to drop his traditional “trapstar” and “fresh pair of Nikes” in there once or twice. Overall, it’s a good song. I got it off iTunes. Check it out!

I am loving “Discipline” so much and I actually purchased it before it was release(pre-order)…. To keep it real..I’m so proud of Ms. Jackson..at 40 years of good age….the woman still can bang out some hits..and I laughed at the comments that her record sales would tank and her career is a wash….at this point in her career ..with the full body of work that Janet has brung to the table..many young artist need to have longevity and not become a one hit wonder..I think after 20 years of hits..she’s just adding to the collection of hits… I would love to see what Beyonce and Ciarra would look and sound like in 20 years from now..Imagine that.. P.S. Janet..the body looks better than ever so to all the haters…back up because Ms. Jackson is nasty and she’s back.

Love in the club is okay. It’s not that hot. Ushers voice and delivery is what is amazing. He is and old school singer in a young body.

Ijust bought the album right before Friday as i have dial up and could not download the entire purchase so I had to get to the store to buy and found the Limited Edition DVD/CD and I am so impressed with what I have bought. I loved the DVD because I love to see as well as hear things so my DVD was very enjoyable and when i played the CD I was so impressed. This was very well produced and Janet suprised me with tracks like ROLLERCOASTER and 2NITE and I love Missy with Janet on THE1, Discipline is so sexy and I love NE Yo and his writing. I did not know it but found out that Taj Jackson may have done some writing on 2NITE!!!! I LOVE THE ALBUM so much and will need to buy another one because this one will be WORN OUT!!!!!

I heard feedback, the first single from the Displine CD. Not impressed at all. The streets aren’t feelin’ this from what I see. Usher, just the fact that he’ll have every ATL rapper wanna be on it means that it will be a hit. In other words, this has all been done to death!! Nothing new or fresh here.

In reference to DECtoCHI, I live in the #1 market New York and they have been playing this song on Hot 97, Power 105.1, Z100 and WBLS. I especially like hearing Funk Flex mix it. And those stations are urban, urban, top 40, and classic soul, r&b.

I purchased Janet’s Discipline CD after not really feeling the first single feedback and I am glad that I did purchase it. I like Janet but I am not a major fan, however, I must say that she is winning me over with this CD. It is very good and chill…it is easy listening from beginning to end. Good production.

I like Janet Jackson’s Discipline. It’s exactly what the title reads! For those of you (KRYS) who just want to be heard and not SEEN, let’s be invisible, okay. Janet is only doing what she loves to do - entertain. Don’t hate “J” because you AIN’T “J”! Discipline is a great album and I am very happy that she it is doing great!!

Are you serious to compare Chris Brown to Usher? Someone please find the clip of Chris Brown singing the national anthem at Morehouse’s football game a couple years back. That kills that argument right there, the boy Brown can’t even sign. You can compare a digitally assisted dancer to a real singer!

is she even relevant anymore? i mean she’s forty-five, who does she appeal to at this stage? she should start grooming an act for vegas or something. madonna has the gays, and the 40’s club set. who does she have? the sisters who idolized her during her heyday. i don’t see them buying anything.
