Buffett and Rod Stewart headed to Atlanta

Why stay indoors when you’re in Margaritaville — or Atlanta in spring? Sure, Jimmy Buffett came through Atlanta last year, but that was at Philips Arena. This year, he’s back where he ought to be, outdoors.

Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band will return to Lakewood Amphitheatre on June 5, exactly two years and three days after his last outdoor Atlanta gig at the same venue (of course, it was being called Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheatre then).

Tickets go on sale Monday, March 10, at 10 a.m. and there is a six-ticket limit per customer. They’ll be available through Live Nation, at all Ticketmaster outlets including Publix grocery stores or charge by phone at 404-249-6400.

In other concert announcement news, Rod Stewart is the latest act booked at the new Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Alpharetta.

After a lucrative detour into classic pre-rock pop standards, Stewart’s latest album revisits classic of the rock era.

Tickets for Stewart’s Aug. 27 performance go on sale Friday, March 7, at 10:00 a.m. For more info, go the the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre Web site. Tickets will be available at Ticketmaster outlets, or charge by phone 404- 249-6400.

Charlie? Charlie Tuna? Is that you? Don’t be hatin’ on Jimmy…He admits himself he doesn’t understand his popularity, but loves what he does…and so do we! Maybe you need some “changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes”

I am with you Michael, obviously charlie the tuna does not get what Jimmy is all about. They may be stale, but by God they sell out everywhere they go, and make a lot of people really happy for a couple of hours. I will make my yearly trip to Margaritaville for sure!!!!

Charlie you are the loser. If you don’t understand it, why knock it? I don’t understand RAP but I don’t bother the people that do. Why don’t you go listen to your Barry Manilow and leave us alone….you prick.

Oh yeah….I might be a laid-back Parrothead but I’d still love to stomp a mudhole in your a$$…

I FINALLY got to see my first Buffett concert last year. Of course it had to be the one time he performed indoors.

…and Charlie, one more thing….for your information Buffett is still recording….puts out new CDs every year or two (and they sell quite well, thank you very much)….so much for your “stale music” theory. Just cause you’re ignorant, it don’t mean you’re correct.

Buffett is so “stale” and such a “has been” that he sells out Lakewood in about 15 minutes EVERY time he comes (and would sell out multiple shows if he did them)…and it’s like that every where he goes.

For those of y’all that haven’t been to a Buffett concert, try and do it. It’s an experience (I’ve seen him about 25 times, dating back to the ’80s).

Why is Jimmy playing at the lame Hi-Fi Buys/Lakewood “in da hood” amphitheatre when there a new venue in his fanbase’s backyard??

Charlie, are you deaf? Buffet rules.. I have also seen Rod in concert & he puts on one of the best shows that you will ever see..

“Stale” not even close. Been around for awhile - yes.. But then I’ve been around for awhile. I first saw Jimmy in 1976 when we stood maybe 6-7 feet apart while he played. Of course we can’t get that close anymore ‘cause the boys done good. I do not know how many times I’ve seen him but I’ll keep going as long as he keeps playin.

Isn’t kinda suspect that enjoy Buffett you have to be blitzed? If you want to have areal musical experience, check of Lamb of God. Now that is music that rocks!

Mike -

I have been a Parrothead for about 20 years now and I do not drink at all. Buffett is one of the best song writers around today. And I would argue that he is one of the best writer of lyrics ever. The reason he often does not get taken seriously is that he does not take himself seriously.

Dig a little deeper into his discography (past Margaritaville and WDWGDAS). My all-time favorite Buffett song is “One Particular Harbor”.

Saw Buffett at Six Flags back in the mid-80s. Would love to see him again, but not at the price tickets to his last show went for. Give me a break. You cannot convince me that the artist has no control or influence over their own concert ticket prices……and it’s not like he needs the money.

It’s good to know that we won’t have to deal with the likes of Charlie at the Buffett concert - unless we stop at a fast food restaurant on the way home.

Have you ever been to one of JB’S shows Charlie? You might have a good time!! Sounds like you need to relax a bit. A Buffet show is just a day and night away from reality is all.

Lighten up Francis!!!

Jimmys just providing a good time and he is the first to admit that. He knows he won’t win any Grammys any time soon. No one cares….

Mike, Mix that Lamb of God with “God’s own Drunk” and you have a show.

I have seen Buffet in concert more times than I can remember. Fins is one of the all-time best concert songs, especially if you are sitting on the lawn at Lakewood and have a full view of the crowd. Call it what it is, a temporary escape from reality.

Way back since the mid 70s I’ve been a Buffett fan and have seen him in concert 10-12 times. I was there at The Fox for his live “You Had To Be There” concerts. My friends told me that I had a good time. A Buffett concert is all fun and escapism. Lighten up. If you went to one of his concerts you’d have a great time. Oh, one more thing. The best CD of all time is Buffett’s “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes.” The best song ever is “Tampico Trauma.” I was a Parrot Head before there was such a thing.

I was a Parrothead before there were Parrotheads and I’ve seen Jimmy plenty and once at Lakewood, I’ll never go back there, I was at the Fox too for his live album and I love Jimmy as much as anyone else, but at Lakewood? Come on guys, you can do better, I’ll listen on RadioMargaritaville.com

And for those that don’t like Jimmy, all you can go pound sand in your rear end and you’ll probably like it.

I’ll see Jimmy out of town somewhere.

I absolutely don’t know how you can’t have a great time at a Jimmy show. Especially when it’s an outdoor venue. I’ve seen him 15-20 times plus and CAN’T WAIT to see him again. Lakewood works, but man he sells out fast!!! Too many Parrotheads and not enough tickets! But I hope to see all of you THERE! Phins up my Pfriends!

Buffett is still a terrific performer, and he’s got a great niche. I just can’t go see him anymore because the Parrotheads really ruin the shows for me. It went from fans going to enjoy Jimmy’s music to fans going to make Jimmy’s music the background soundtrack to their DUI’s in the making.

That said, Charlie could use a drink or two…Buffett has done the unthinkable - a 4 decade music career and more popular now than at his commercial peak.

Now, Rod Stewart, on the other hand, needs to stop it.

People - get a life!

I like Jimmy Buffett, and Rod Stewart, and I’m a Christian, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate good music! Listening to secular music is not going to send you straight to Hell, but calling each other stupid names just might!

Charlie - Why are you so angry? Tsk, tsk…..You know, some people NEED to drink……hint, hint.
