Up Close With Alan Jackson
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Newnan native Alan Jackson will discuss what it was like to grow up in Georgia, how he met his wife (and new author) Denise, and of course, promote his upcoming CD, “Good Time,” at 9 p.m. this Saturday on CMT’s “Invitation Only”.
The episode will also be heavy on music, with Jackson (pictured) and his band the Strayhorns playing everything from longtime country favorites like “Chattahoochee” and “Don’t Rock the Jukebox” to a new track from “Good Time” titled “Sissy’s Song.”
(Good thing Jackson will also be sharing the stories behind his music, as well.)
After 19 years in the business, and some 49 million albums sold, what do you still want to know about Jackson? What song do you hope to hear if you tune in this weekend? And will you be in line March 4 to pick up the most nominated artist in CMA history’s latest CD?
(For a little purchasing inspiration, see the video for his new single, “Small Town Southern Man” HERE

One of the best musicians going; his songs all have great meaning, even the funny one where a mechanic is giving him an estimate on his vehicle and Alan gives him an estimate on fixing the mechanic’s home-grown song. Glad he hails from my state.

Everytime I visit Newnan, GA where my friend teaches at Hertiage there I have to play Alan Jackson’s Drive CD. I am a huge fan of his and his home town of Newnan, GA. He is the best, hoping one day to see him in his home town, when he visits Newnan, GA.

Where were you when the World stopped turning caught my feelings post 9-11. I live in NYC and worked near the WTC, but grew up in Griffin and nobody else seemed to get what it felt like up here. Alan Jackson is my hero.

There’s not many faces in today’s world where people young and old can turn for a role-model. Alan Jackson is a true American role-model. From a small Georgia town to the big city lights, he has never let fame cloud who he is or where he is from. He is still the shy country boy from Newnan, Ga. Georgia can be proud of what he stands for and the family vaules he shares through his music.

Alan grew up in the yellow house on Franklin Rd. with a white privacy fence around it, directly across from Hemrick’s Convenience Store.

Unlike the fake, fabricated pop-crossovers (Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, etc.) that fill the “country” music airways these days, Alan Jackson is true blue Country Music. He’s my favorite (modern era) country singer by far. I love his no compromise/no sellout approach to Country music (the way it should be). The new song “Small Town Southern Man” reminds me of my late Grandad. My favorite AJ song is probably his cover of “Pop A Top” (pure honky tonk gold). IMO, no “contemporary country” artist can hold a candle to Alan Jackson!
