T-Pain Backstage

LOS ANGELES - In a tall spray-painted top hat, with a lining in his suit to match, Atlanta rapper-singer-producer T-Pain made his way backstage at the Grammys ready to celebrate his first statue, for best rap song, Kanye West’s “Good Life”.

“I canceled my red-eye [back to Atlanta],” he said. “I thought I was going to go winless. But I’m celebrating tonight! It’s going down in [the Los Angeles hotel] The Grafton.”

He also talked about why he’s the current go-to man for hooks and choruses: “I’m the only person that’s not afraid to tell the truth.”

And on West’s performance of “Stronger” and “Dear Mama” : “I cried a little bit. I had shades on, so people couldn’t see it.”

Who do you think stood out performance-wise at the Grammys? Was it obvious the writer’s strike isn’t quite over yet? And what about T-Pain, the writer; is that what his appeal is, his ability to tell the truth?

The Grammy’s sucked from the start! Of course Alicia Keyes sounded good and the Frank Sinatra tribute was a great idea, but any awards show should start off with a bang! I’m primarily a R&B fan, but the Foo Fighters did the best by far! Carrie Underwood proved why she is amongst the American Idol winners; as she sounded amazing. Tina Turner and Beyonce did ok. I fell asleep after the Alicia Keyes/John Mayer performance… nothing to write home about. Although I must say, John can play the guitar can’t he?! Oh yeah, Kanye’s salute to his Mom and the Stronger performace was great. As usual he f’d it all up with his acceptance speech. He always finds a way to put Common down and whine! Writers… PLEASE COME BACK NEXT YEAR!

Sonia, your piece on the Grammy awards consists of T-Pain’s inane quotes? Did you even watch the show? Herbie’s upset win didn’t merit mention? And, I agree with Me, West opens his mouth and the ego pops out. Of course, if he had much upstairs he would not have appeared wearing that costume, would he? Sonia, do they pay you for these columns?

The Grammy proved one thing this year, the music industry has no real new talent. This present group of ‘musicians’ I use the term loosely make for the lack of originality with over the top egos.

Me, I agree. What’s okay with Beyonce and Tina Turner doing the same damn routine Tina has been doing since the 1960’s. The music industry is in real trouble if they have to go to people who haven’t had hit records in decades to perform

Any ‘awards’ show that recoginzes a crack pipe smoker, does not deserve mine, or my families time. That is why we didn’t watch. The music industry lacks a moral center

T-Pain is not from Atlanta. Neither is Akon. Neither is Keisha Cole. I know there are people I am missing that are supposed to be from Atlanta, just can’t remember. Yes, these people have houses here, but they are not from here.

Anything that generates billions of dollars lacks a moral center. Even churches.

I really enjoyed Beyonce and Tina’s performance. But my oh my, I’m mainly R&B as well, but I’m going to have to start paying attention to Carrie Underwood. She is very good!!!
