“Rhythm Nation” 2008?

With the Super Bowl still fresh on many minds, it’s hard not to talk Ggggg…Janet Jackson.

disciplinecover.jpg

Yep, we’re back on the part-time Atlantan as what is believed to be the cover of her Feb. 26 CD “Discipline” (above) has been made available.

Look like she’s going for an updated version of “Rhythm Nation” to you? Is it really feeling like there’s a Janet Jackson album only weeks away? Or do you think her two previous duds (“Damita Jo” and “”) - plus radio’s slow reception to first single “Feedback” - has simply weakened interest?

I’m a huge Janet fan, but I feel she really needs a huge comeback album like Mariah had. What’s going on Janet? You still look awesome, but we need your music to be equally awesome. I haven’t heard the latest CD, but, I’m looking forward to possibly hearing something better than what you last put out. It’s was worse than Beynonce’s B-Day, which regardless of the sales, was not nearly as good as her first. Just lots of beats and screaming vocals!

Rhythm Nation 1814 was a great album that was full of hits, why? It was new and different. Her style is neither at this point, dont look for that success ever again, its not realistic. Her newness and innocence is gone, the two things that were her meal ticket.I recommend just slide the old RN1814 disc in and enjoy.

I hate to say it because i simply ADORE this woman!!! But she can’t sing….it’s hard to change your style and do something else when you’re limited vocally. Mariah has got CHOPS! She can sing, so it’s different for her. She has to stick with those watered down vocals and over produced tracks. She’s an entertainer, not a singer. Now I gotta take a moment……it hurt me to say that…

I agree with you JT. I too love Janet but she’s an OK vocalist. it’s a little to late for her to try and come back now. A lot of people believed that with JD producing her, she’ll do what Mariah did. But Mariah has a great voice and Janet is a has been.

JT I agree with you 110% about her lack of singing skills. I think anyone with eye sight agrees that Janet looks damn good. The problem is her HORRIBLE MUSIC! There was an article about her last CD that bombed that said Janet gets more press about her looks than her music.

What happen to that mature Janet that we started hearing in the mid to late 90’s with songs like, That’s the way love goes, I get lonely, Any time, Any Place. What about that smooth club jam she had with Q-Tip off the Velvet rope CD. I never appreciated that song til I heard an Atl Dj bump it hard at da club. I think the name was Got till it’s gone. She need to kill that Euro-trash dance music. All her tracks from the last 2 CD’s sound like bull$hit that Ciara left on the studio floor.

Your considered OLD when you hit “40” Janet was good but her time has passed. Think folks, it happens to the best of them. I give any Huge talent a max of 3 and a half years.4max-after that the hits seem to dry up. also depending on the age..Take Elvis and the Beatles and the Supremes. When each were 21, 22 to 25. They were unstopable. Once they all reached their mid 30s like Elvis, the beatles after 1967 along with the supremes. They started to slip. The music wasent as tight. The artists half sing(Ross, Elvis)Yet the cost to see them skyrocketed! Then they would rush through the songs singing them in off or different keys and the only think your left with is the memory and the way the hit song sounded over the radio. Its a Young forum for a young audience. Young folks dont care about Janet jackson, LL cool J, diana ross, elvis, madonna(who dont realize how old she looks) or Michael Jackson. They have all been replaced by Beyonce, Ciara(I dont know why)Rhianna, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Ne-yo and some other fly by night young bunch of no talented upstarts!I said it before, I miss the 60s! but hell I will take the 70s and 80s right about now! 90s? no way! and the 00s is out of the question. From 2000 to the present, Not One new young artist could hold a candle to the greats of the late 50s,60s or even 70s. Music has died.

I love Janet but….her earlier sucess was due partly to her incredible videos. The songs and video combos were incredible. However, even if MTV did play vidoes theses days, she probally could never duplicate her earlier sucess.

Unless you can slur your words into barely discernable belligerent complaints about whatever bling-bling losers care about…your chances of a music career are fairly scant now. Eventually, I think every song will be a hodge-podge of aggressively thumping bass over shoddy sampling…with an over-paid, over-hyped, spoiled brat (with “street cred”) making what ammounts to grunts and clicking sounds. Forget it Janet, you’re better than the contemporary artist, but you’re also obsolete. Music, is pretty much a dead form.

The songs I’ve heard thus far are pretty nice. I like “Rock With You” which contains hidden elements of the song with the same title by Michael. It’s on her website www.janetjackson.com. Click on Launch Jukebox. Miss Jackson is back!!!!!!

Have to agree with JT too. I’m a huge Janet fan, but I’ve long recognized that Janet is an entertainer not a great singer. It is my understanding that JD had his hands on this project as well. The last CD was a big disappointment. The one or two songs that I did like were produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and the rumor mill has it that after the last project, they will not work with JD — so that left them out of the new one. I used to make sure I got my copy of her CD on the day it was realized, but since I don’t like Feedback, there’s no desire to run out and purchase this CD.

I loved the Janet from the Rhythm Nation era. But, I must agree, her time has passed on that level. And I have to comment on the “looks”………….while yes, she’s still a nice looking lady, come on people, how much of that is “au natural”, and I’m not just talking makeup and hair weave, more like “plastic alterations”!!! lol Still luv you though, Janet!

I have a funny Janet story. She and Jermaine were in midtown one day in a black rolls (several years ago) I was behind them on my scooter and tooted the horn for them to go since the light was green. My friend was on the back of the scooter and tapped my shoulder as we passed them that it was Janet… She looked over and waved at both of us with that pretty smile of hers. We were both like OMG!

I love Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation cd. It was great, to me, her best work. It’s the only cd of hers that I have ever purchased. Maybe she should just do acting. She’s a good actress in my opinion.

There are just too many nonbelievers and nay sayers, posting comments. Where is the hope? And why are you comparing Mariah to Janet. Two different artist with two different entertainment styles. Let Janet do Janet! And if you look at the crap that has hit #1 in the last 3 years, clearly talent and ability have little to do with success. It’s all about Charisma, likeability, and promotion. If Janet never hits the top again, she will forever be an ICON and forever be a STAR. Like it or not. I really like the song Feedback. I do think the song needs a stronger Video, to help promote the song. In addition, DEF JAM is not doing a very good job of promoting this CD. As of yet, I don’t see a big change from Virgin to DEF JAM. I think Damita Jo and 20 YO were good CD’s. For the most part, those CD’s didn’t sell, as well as previous CD’s b/c the buying public is young and have no clue about music. Fantasia and countless other TALENTED artist have not done as well as they should have for this very reason.

I love Janet! I am very optimistic about the CD “Discipline”. I think this CD will bring the funk. BTW, Janet is back on MTV, so if you post comments at least be current on the topic. I hope DEF JAM will push the release date back in hopes to generate some more hype/interest of this CD. They need to release the re-mix to Feedback and at least one more song.

I agree with both James and JT. One, if that ewok-ass looking Jermaine Dupri STAY his behind outta the studio when Janet is up in there, maybe her music wouldn’t sound so “Ciara-Ish” or as if she’s trying to compete with Bey or Rihanna! She needs Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to BRING her BACK to her natural element: POP and good mellow songs and a few songs that make you THINK. “Damita Jo” wasn’t totally bad to me but it could’ve been SO much better- “20 Y.O.” shoulda been called “Twenty, Yeah RIGHT”! I actually think “Feedback” is cool cause the beat at least is a step-up from her previous music, though the T-Pain, Roger Troutman stealing, type of style is getting played and on my dayum nerves! JDJJ needs good music from Timbo, Pharrell and even Ne-Yo (he’s a great songwriter)and maybe she can make some noise. She ain’t no Mariah and don’t have the cred and the balls like Mary to survive so she gotta get back to what she knows!!!!!!! Much Love!

Janet is tooo old. Ciara and Beyonce are the new girls and sometimes people need to know, when to let go. Now is the time. Vocally she can’t mess with Mariah. Mariah is like Patti, she will always have a audience because vocally she can sing. The people who go to hear patty don’t care if she dances, they want to hear songs. Beyonce will have the same problem as Janet at 40.
