Eagles tour takes off from Alpharetta

eagleslaunch.jpg

Rock legends the Eagles will launch their Long Road Out Of Eden World Tour right here at the new Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park, in Alpharetta,

The May 14 show is sure to feature material from the band’s recent No. 1 CD “Road Out of Eden,” the best selling album by a group last year, according to Nielsen SoundScan. But of course, when you have the best-selling album OF ALL TIME as well - “Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975,” now at 29 million units and counting - it’s a safe bet you’ll hear singles from that CD, including “Take It Easy,” “Take It To The Limit” and the like.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 1 at Ticketmaster, 404-249-6400 or go to www.ticketmaster.com. Planning to attend? Happen to be among the 711,000 who bought “Long Road Out of Eden” its first week out in October, or the 7 million who’ve purchased it to date? And were you surprised that a group that started in the ’70s could still make such an impact, saleswise, three decades later?

Here’s hoping we have a sellout. You see, I need to restock Hillary’s coffers for her run for president. Please help me support her.

Love,

Don

Why would that be a surprise? Since the teenagers of the 70’s that bought the Eagles music in the first place are now in their late 40’s to early 50’s age group, we can now afford to spend a few bucks on a c.d. and concert tickets. Just because we’re middle age doesn’t mean we quit listening to good music…most of us are still able to dance as well! LOL

Don Henley could sing the phone book and we’d probably buy it … he’s an incredibly gifted singer and songwriter. Glenn Fry is nothing to sneeze at either and there is only one Joe Walsh. I would have enjoyed the CD more if there had been less Timothy Schmidt but if I can - I’ll be there! I don’t buy music based on politics or personality - its the quality and the Eagles never releases anything that is below par.

Don Henley actually used to put on some good shows at Chastain. I heard a rumor at one point they may play Wild Bills. Good Lord!

I love the Eagle, of course there’s no way I’ll pay the prices that are charged now for concerts. Saw them in the early 80’s when ticket prices were reasonable great show.

If you haven’t seen the Eagles since they reunited in 94, you don’t know what your missing. I’ve seen them four times since and their shows are almost three hours long and include solo work from Henley, Frey and Walsh. I’m at total opposite sides of the political spectrum as Henley, but I appreciate good music and they don’t make stupid, political comments during the concerts I’ve been to.

If I can afford it, I’ll definitely go. One of the first albums I ever bought was their ‘71-‘75 Greatest Hits and I wore that vinyl out! To me, they never get old because they’re excellent musicians and songwriters. Unfortunately, I can’t say that about too many of the younger bands these days. How many rock bands from the past 5-10 years do you think will still be around in 30 years?? Probably very few, if any at all. And if any do survive, I bet my life they’ll never come close to the record sales of the Eagles!

I don’t consider these guy the Eagles since Don Henley and Glenn Frey canned Don Felder. He wrote most the music on Hotel California and The Long Run. I haven’t ever met Don Henley, but I’ll agree, he’s a prick!

Jim, you may want to go check your liner notes. Don Felder has the fewest songwriting credits of any of the Eagles, past, present, or future.

This is the sound of my brain.

Then I said, this is the sound of my brain on Don Henley!

Then I said, 1 2 3 4…

He’s a tortured artist Used to be in the Eagles Now he whines Like a wounded beagle Poet of despair! Pumped up with hot air! He’s serious, pretentious And I just don’t care Don Henley must die! Don’t let him get back together With Glenn Frey! Don Henley must die!

Turn on the TV And what did I see? This bloated hairy thing Winning a Grammy Best Rock Vocalist? Compared to what? But your pseudo-serious Crafty Satanic blot Don Henley must die! Put a sharp stick in his eye! Don Henley must die! Yea yea yea

Quit playin’ that crap You’re out of the band

I’m only kidding Can’t you tell? I love his sensitive music Idiot poetry, swell You and your kind Are killing rock and roll It’s not because you are O L D It’s cause you ain’t got no soul! Don’t be afraid of fun Loosen up your ponytail! Be wild, young, free and dumb Get your head out of your tail Don Henley must die! Don’t let him get back together With Glenn Frey!

Don Henley must die! Put him in the electric chair Watch him fry! Don Henley must die Don Henley must die No Eagles reunion The same goes for you, Sting!

My wife and I were at their 2005 show at Gwinnett arena and I would have to rank it up there as one of the best concerts I have ever been to (and I have been to a few). I was griping about the price of the tickets beforehand, but after their stellar 3+ hour performance we were in total awe. Ton’s of Eagles classics, plus each member threw in several songs each of their solo work. It was fantastic. Not sure if we’ll make this show, but if you are an Eagles fan and haven’t seen them before (or recently) try and go — You will not regret it……..And if you aren’t an Eagles fan why are you even reading this? ……go read about your hip-hop/flip-flop (or whatever it is), sucky nu rock, or whatever noise you like to listen to…….and leave the Eagle’s comments to those of us that grew up in or appreciate this era of fantastic music (Classic Rock). Thank You.

I do not agree with many of their (mainly Henley’s) political views either, but I’m willing to let that slide. When they do the obligatory Bush bashing, war bashing, blah-blah-blah, songs it would make for a good time to go to the concession stand or bathroom. Hell, if you boycott all the musical artists that feel compelled to preach about that stuff these days, it would pretty much only leave country music to listen to! (I’m not bashing country music here…….I like a good bit of it).

As a side note “Long Road Out Of Eden” is a good album. It certainly isn’t up there with “Hotel California” or “Desperado” ……but it’s good. It’s pretty mellow overall (about what you would think the Eagles should sound like at their current ages). It, of course has several of the type of songs mentioned above (Bush-bashing, war-bashing, etc.). Fortunately modern MP3 technology allows me to easily SKIP those songs when listening to the album!

Yeah right, Weasel. Felder was just the lead guitarist for the band from 74-01. But I guess you assumed somebody else wrote the music for him and then taught him how to play it.

Yes Pete, Encore is going to rock the face off your Gwinnett Arena. Alpharetta is the place to be in the OTP. Bring on some more classic rock and jam bands and I’m there! This place is so close to my house I could spit on it. Woooh!!! I can’t wait until it opens. I just might quit my job and go work there.

No - I’m not surprised that a group from the ’70s could make such an impact on music today - today’s music sucks and lacks real talent or musicianship (unless you can rhyme somewhat decently. People want to hear quality music.

Why must ‘you people’ always bring your small-minded politics in everything? Go to the concert, enjoy the show and guess what, you can still vote for the candidate of your choice when the time comes.

Eagles? Nah, I’ll pass. Now, if it were Steppenwolf (with John Kay), I’d pay those prices to see THEM in concert again. Besides, there’s too many wine & cheese goober-heads in AL-pha-RHETTA with Beemers and Lexus’ to suit me.

My wife and I will be there. I am so glad that I don’t have to trek to Lakewood any longer now that VWA@EP is in Alpharetta —Lakewood is just too far and it’s just not a good venue for music. It will be nice to hop on 400, drive down six exits and get to the show.

It’s going to be a great year for concerts —Eagles, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Rush —all at VWP in Alpharetta this summer.

I have been waiting to hear this news for what seems like an eternity. I love the EAGLES. How could anyone listen to the harmony or the words to the songs and not realize this group is the best of all times. This group is to be respected not only for the music but also the preservation of our great resources. Bet you can’t tell I love “The Last Resort” or the new one “No More Walks In The Woods”? The first time I heard the new CD my husband (who is also a big fan) almost lost his hearing from me screaming how great it was. I will mortgage my house just to see these guys. Being 50 and getting so excited almost scared my fellow nurses to death. I think every patient in the coronary care unit now knows I love the EAGLES. See you in Atlanta!

I am a high school Senior, and I am skipping school Friday (3 Advanced Placement classes…) to buy tickets. I will absolutely die if I get to go. The Eagles are the best musical act in the history of music, hands down. While it makes me cringe that my money will be stocking “Hillary’s coffers,” I will gladly fork over the $. I LOVE YOU STILL DON HENLEY!

Rock on….
