Once, Twice, Three Times For Sugarland

sugarlandchart.jpg

Monday we delivered the good news that Atlanta rapper-producer-label executive Akon was named the top pop artist of 2007 by industry staple, Billboard magazine.

Today even more hometown hurrahs are in order. Country duo Sugarland has scored its third No. 1 single from its latest, multiplatinum CD, “Enjoy The Ride.” First there was “Want To,” then “Settling” and now it’s “Stay” atop the Mediabase/Country Aircheck Singles chart.

And the bonus for Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush is that the video for the spare ballad also tops CMT.com and CMT Mobile’s listing of the 20 most popular country music videos streamed at those two mediums in 2007.

What do you think has given “Enjoy The Ride” such staying power? What in particular is affecting about “Stay”? As you’re contemplating your comment, watch the “Stay” video below from YouTube:

There’s no one else more deserving of all the good…they are great artists and great people who want to touch the lives of others and make the world a better place! They are obviously doing just that! Congrats and I look forward to many more years of great music…

If “Stay” is the song where she’s crying in the video, I hate it!!! The song is silly, where it’s suppose to be emotional & about love it’s such bad acting. Okay, she sheds tears, so what, Julia Roberts is good at that too, but at least Julia is prettier. Watching country videos is hilarious, so stupid. Country singers should contact Black directors to shoot their videos and while they’re at it, write their lyrics, too.

“Enjoy the Ride” is a great CD. Sugarland has the ability of mixing a selection of songs that touch you and songs that are fun. It’s great that “Stay” is number one. They deserve it.

Thanks for reminding us that racism is alive and well in America, Country Bull.

ADAM, I’m not a racist. A racist is someone who hates another because of the color of their skin. I’m only stating my opinion and giving advice from where I look at it. If you can’t take criticism from a black person then just maybe you’re a racist.

To Country bull, it saddens me when people make negative comments such as yours. I think the song is beautifully written as well as performed. Country music is fine just the way it is. A black director would not do these videos any justice. Placing half naked girls in a video won’t make it better! Just remember if you dont have anything good to say, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT! The world would be a better place!

My, my, my, just can’t take criticism, can we? Okay, I’ll get off yall blog and let you have it. But remember, there are a lot of videos that are produced by Blacks that don’t have “naked girls” & other negative images in them (& by the way, a lot of you guys are checking them out). Some country music is nice but the videos can be improve. Check everyone out later. PEACE!

This is a wonderful video..She does a great job..What else do they need in this to get the point of the song across?? She is also a heck of a lot prettier than Julia Roberts..

CountryBull — your comment wasn’t “criticism”, it was “trolling”. And you and everyone else knows it.

Congrats to sugarland and their families. They have worked many years at their craft to get to this point. I was fortunate enough to grow up listening to Jennifer sing. We were not especially close but she was always a terribly nice fun person. I do not know Mr Bush but he I understand is also extremely talented from what I have read. I think the people who dislike the video missed the point but that is my opinion.

that video is the best I have ever seen. It is raw emotion and Jennifer gets that feeling across unbelievably well.

I had no idea who Sugarland was until they sang with Beyonce. I loved Jennifer’s voice so much I immediately went looking for Sugarland’s music. I have downloaded a couple of their songs and watch their videos on youtube. I am not a huge country music fan but Sugarland rocks.

Congrats to Sugarland. Well deserved.

Love the song and the video. In my opinion, the song is a very strong one and needed only the simple video to go along with it. It definitely didn’t need a lot of bells and whistles to make it powerful. The song does it all on it’s own. One of my favorite Sugarland songs.

Its tough on Atl. when a white act makes good. Never seen a comments section that did not mention “race” in the AJC. Go “Sugarland”.

When’s Jennifer going solo? I don’t see Christian in the future.

Anything to do with Atlanta or the AJC has to have a racial angle to it. Like New Orleans its a Chocolate City.

As sugar is white, Sugarland implies whiteness. Perhaps they should hire a brother to play guitar and play a more prominent role in the group.

They’ve had a black drummer before, who helped/recorded on ETR… so I doubt that sugar being white implies whiteness…. honestly I don’t get why so many of our people try to play the race card the first second they get… its despicable.. go to a Sugarland concert you’ll see more races and walks of life than any other country act out there!!
