T.I. Hosts Charity Thanksgiving Dinner - In Spirit

tithanksgiving.jpg

Atlanta rapper-actor T.I. and his Grand Hustle K.I.N.G. Foundation are hosting Thanksgiving dinner for the needy Thursday.

But by “host”, we gather the press release announcing this effort meant, “financed.” T.I., as you may recall, is on bond and restricted to his lakefront Jonesboro home, after authorities said he illegally tried to buy machine guns and silencers last month. His charitable ways continue, however, with the dinner at his Club Crucial (2517 Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy) from 6 to 9 p.m. . Plus, his label rep says he is donating 400 turkeys to the Atlanta Parks & Recreation Center, to distribute to Atlanta familes. And “T.I. has and continues to reach out to celebrity friends to help raise $150,000 for the Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry Thanksgiving Day Dinner Event.”

Get over yourself, at least he’s trying to help those less fortunate then himself… what are you doing this holiday to help others? It seems like you’re be doing nothing more than spewing racist and hate filled rhetoric as your kind typically does…

Hey T.I.

Continue to do your good deeds by not forgetting where you came from. I’m sure the families who receive a meal or a turkey will thank you for thinking about someone who is less fortunate. You and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving!

This last comment is for “Outraged” who made the 1st comment to this blog…I guess it takes gutter trash to know gutter trash because that’s what you are!!

Sorry sportsmommy - I’d rather have dinner with “Outraged” than either you or T.I. There are plenty of non-criminal-thug role models doing great things this Thanksgiving - where are the stories about them? It sounds like sportsmommy would rather have her baby thugs raised to look up to people like T.I. instead of Bill Cosby or Oprah.

I agree. At least he is doing something. You have a lot of entertainers who get to a certain level they don’t help others. the only reason the other different charties so they can look good.I guess TI is realizing that the street life is not what you have.He is having time to think and regroup. So i am proud that is giving to the parks because they need it. and he needs to work on himself to be a positive role model.I like his music and i did buy his last CD. What will you do for CHRISTMAS

By DaTruth

November 20, 2007 1:47 PM | Link to this

No, what he is doing isn’t true charity. He’s trying to spend a little money to make himself look like a good guy, in hopes that the judge takes it into consideration. And he has plenty of money, why reach out to “celebrity” friends, donate the $150K yourself, it shouldn’t be a big deal, and it’s a tax write-off.

GOD Bless T.I.P. through his troubled time he continues to display a classic and honorable role in the lifes of people who not able to be as fortunate as most people are. I think T.I. is a great role model for kids, eventhough he went to jail and continues to stay in trouble he still finds time to give his money back to the community. BIG UPS.

To all of these people on here who have posted blogs saying “Well at least he is doing something”…..all I can say to this is that this is part and parcel of what a drug dealer would do when he moves into a community. He is doing nothing more than buying sympathy. Tell me, where was his sympathy towards his neighbors before he became intangled in his legal problems. Can all of you who are accusing us of racism answer this simple question. Where was his charitable giving in thanksgiving and christmas past. I agree with you Outraged and Turducken.

And the AJC is wondering why there subscription rates are dropping like passes in the hands of Atlanta Falcon receivers. It is because of giving this T.I guy space. I say that T.I. stands for Trash Incorporated

Someone is trying to change their perception it’d appear. To be charitable now (vs last year when T.I. was also on top) shows his motives. I have all his cds, and like his music, but this is like OJ, you have to see the truth through the emotion. He messed up, and is trying to “look charitable”. Remember $150K to him is pocket change. He isnt a role model, role models dont buy assault weapons ILLEGALLY. You want your children to look up to people who do thing illegally? This is a crime that will be punished. Soory, T.I., I love the music, but you cant act like a thug on sat, and go to church on Sunady w/o being called a hypocrite.

Stop hatn! This man has done charity work before this trouble. All those who has something negitive to say, what are YOU doing this Thanksgiving? Are you being charitible? Or are you going to sit around the table, eating and doing nothing that day? A person can learn from past mistakes, give him a chance to right a wrong. You would want the same chance if the shoe was on the other foot.!

T.I. has always done charitable work it’s just that the media only finds it “news worthy” when he like many others do something “bad”.. He did it last year plus Christmas and making young kids wishes come true and Back to School shopping.. among other notable good deeds. All of these were done before his arrest… so all you haters don’t get it twisted

That is the most ignorant statement I have ever heard in my life. Let me start by saying that I do not condone the actions of Tip, but to say that Hosea is turning in his grave is just dumb. First of all, Tip might be doing this to look better to the judge, but he has always done charitable things of this nature since he has been successful. Regardless of his reasons behind these actions, the fact still remains that he is still helping out people less fortunate than himself. I do not think Hosea is turning over in his grave when he see people being helped. If you don’t like this person’s character, doesn’t mean that you have to belittle his attempts to help out the less fortunate. I swear people don’t think before they speak, or in this situation, type.

FOR ALL OF YOU THAT ARE HATING. TI HAS NUMEROUS FOUNDATIONS TO HELP NEEDY PEOPLE. HE HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR SOMETIME NOW. HE DID NOT JUST START DOING THINGS BECAUSE HE IS HAVING PROBLEMS RIGHT NOW. IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT DON’T SAY ANYTHING. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT HOSEA WOULD BE VERY HAPPY TO RECIEVE MONEY FROM HIM AND ANY ONE ELSE WHO HAS GIVEN TO HIS CAUSE. DOESN’T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE WHERE THE MONEY IS COMING FROM AS LONG AS IT WILL HELP THE NEEDY.

ALL OF YOU THAT ARE HATING ON THIS MAN, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HELP ANYBODY…! GET A LIFE…!

Before all of you HATERS post negative comments about TI do the research and see what charitable contributions he has made over the years. Have you haters done your research… have you checked to see if and what he’s donated to charity before his latest f’up? In no way am I ok with his legal drama, but bro’ has definitely come a long way. Regarding kids looking up to him… he’s human. Kids have to know that everyday people as well as celebrities make all kinds of mistakes. It’s up to the parents to guide them and explain the differences.

You have to the nerve to criticize someone and you only know what the media says, get a life and get your facts straight. T.I. has stepped up his community involvement as well, taking the lead on several initiatives to help the victims devastated by Hurricane Katrina, including personally donating $50,000 to the relief effort while leading an on-air Labor Day pledge drive on Atlanta’s V-103 FM that raised over $263,000 for Mississippi rapper David Banner’s “Heal the Hood” Foundation. He also partnered with David Banner and Atlanta newcomer Young Jeezy for a two-day food and clothing drive at Atlanta’s Club Vision and co-headlined a massive benefit concert on September 17, sharing the bill with heavyweights such as Nelly, OutKast’s Big Boi, and David Banner - with 100 percent of the proceeds going to “Heal the Hood.”

In addition to his Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, T.I. worked with troubled youths at Paulding Detention Center in Atlanta, provided scholarships for single parent families at Boys and Girls Clubs, and headlined Boost Mobile’s RockCorps concert at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, which featured such performers as Fat Joe, Slim Thug, and Kanye West, and was held exclusively for community service volunteers. In June 2005, The Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez Foundation, named for the deceased member of multi-platinum female group TLC, and Atlanta’s V-103 honored T.I. with the 2005 Lisa Lopez Award for groundbreaking achievements in music and community service.

To all you haters who are insinuating that T.I. has alternative motives for giving really need to get your facts straight instead of casting your ignorant judgmental stones. T.I. does this ANNUALLY..T.I. was one of the first HIP HOP stars to send 18 wheeler truck loads in Katrina assistance..but that is not considered news worthy because see then..he wasn’t in any trouble..but now that he is it’s easy for people who are on the outside looking in to make ignorant judgmental comments like OUTRAGE did if you want to do something about it…go to the hood where he’s from and help out..if not…STFU..who cares that he has a past…WHO DOESN’T..T.I’s past life experiences are just a reflection of some of america faults..but some of T.I’s present life experiences are another reflection of some of america’s success stories.(E.G. someone who can come from what’s considered nothing and become a world renown figure who can make a difference in this world)..Stop hating on this man because he’s got more money than you…

It sounds like they are the ones with the problem, cuz they try and to belittle the good in someone and magnify the bad or mistakes they make in life. We all fall short of being perfect like God. Funny how some of you people do such a hatchet job on the English language and expect that you’re going to be taken seriously. And no coincidence that you are usually the same people who think anyone who believes T.I. is getting what he deserves is a racist. How many more rappers and hip-hop “artists” need to be embroiled in some controversy revolving around foul play and illegal activity before you people realize there aren’t any MISTAKES here?

DUH!

Apparently adherents of this ‘thug-life’ culture are simply incapable of handling fame and fortune! It is that simple!!!

P.S. If you want to call me a racist for anything stated above, go for it. Like I give a rat’s behind what you people think anyway. Decent black people know that I am not a racist, and the rest of you can keep throwing that word around until it becomes completely obsolete and meaningless. Have fun.

It amazes me the IGNORANCE that surfaces when these self-righteous, holier than thou people, who through the cloak of anonymity can say such stupid, hateful things about others. The last I checked T.I. was not CONVICTED of any of these crimes, and in America, you’re SUPPOSED to be INNOCENT until found guilty by the legal system. I wish him and his family the best.

He who is without sin cast the first stone. I too do not agree with TI’s actions but truth be told we all have made some decisions that IF WE WERE CAUGHT OR EXPOSED could have rendered some pretty critical consequences. What if the light was shined on your life from your youth until now….What would we find out??? Hmmm…. If there were more people in the world that put the same energy that they use to put others under a microscope and put themselves under that same scope we would have a much better society. It doesn’t matter how the poor gets the help they need as long as they get it. What’s more important is the end result. The difference between us and God is that he uses whoever is willing to be obedient no matter what else may exist in their life. Even if TI was doing this to “look good” who cares if it means that thousands of unfortunate people will be fed. Who the heck cares. Let God do his job and let the judge do his b/c ultimately none of our opinions really matter.

It also amazes me how everytime there is a story like this on the AJC, people get upset because they say the paper is giving time and space to “trash”. This is the reason why they write these articles, because it will ruffle people’s feathers, making people want to comment, which is more hits on the website. In my opinion, they are going to less and less concerned about the print edition because that is going to be obsolete within the next few years because of the web site. So if you don’t like the AJC, you would make more of a stand by not even coming to the site genuses, and especially not wasting your time commenting on this “trash”. Does that not make any sense to you? Think about it, then log off.

Tyler - see, there you go. When I say “you people” I am referring to a certain contingent who will label anyone a racist even in the absence of anything remotely resembling a racist comment. Members of that group can be any color of the rainbow for all I care. There are plenty of white people in that category. We often call them hippies.

In the midst of what we know to be true about what the Atlanta Police Department AND the media has said and has proven to be untrue (i.e. Neal St.) I don’t believe everything I hear or read until it has been proven. With that being said I won’t judge anyone on what they do, which includes T.I. Yes, I went to Doug High with the man along time ago and he was a troublemaker back in the day, which he will admit to, but this is not the first year that he has done the Thanksgiving Dinner@Crucial. He had BEEN doing this, press or no press It’s funny how, had all of this not been in the news, you all would have no opinion because you would not know what the hell is going on!!

i seriously don’t get some of you people…..i hear it on 107.9, i see it on MTV, i read about it on the AJC.com…

WHY are you celebrating this man? he was busted in a sting to buy illegal assault rifles, ammunition, and silencers. what in the holy hell does someone need those things for?? if they weren’t available legally, there is a reason for it! quit acting like he’s some kind of f@%ing “victim of the system” or being brought down “by the man” because he’s not!

he’s made charitable contributions on his own free will? nobody’s “advised” him that this would be a good tax write-off? yeah, i’m SURE it was completely voluntary. positive in fact.

fact of the matter is that money talks and that’s all people will listen to when it’s in their faces. forget past deeds, forget present deeds, as long as they’re throwing the $$$ at ya. it’s really really pathetic.

I’m amazed at how things are always so racially charged here.

T.I. has made the dummy move. I don’t think anyone denies that but one bad deed doesn’t totally negate the fact that he has always been kind to his community and those in need. Most of the folks on this blog can’t say they’ve done as much for folks who are in need of food, clothing, shelter, etc, criminal record or not. T.I. SHOULD and WILL be dealt with as it relates to his wrongdoings HOWEVER he also should not be knocked for looking out for people when they have not.

For all of you who just looks at all of the wrong someone does and not consider the good in a person and the good they have done, I hope Judgment Day for you is smooth sailing and you have no skeletons in your closet. Wouldn’t it be a shame if God didn’t forgive YOUR transgressions?

I said before that I don’t condone his actions, and yes you do get a tax write off, and there might be a part of him that does it to be looked at in a better light, but there are still people out there that will get a hot Thanksgiving meal that they otherwise might not have been able to get. So in that sense, he was doing better for somebody’s children. I don’t celebrate his troubles, say he is a victim or being brought down by the man, but I am pretty sure that there will be 450+ people that will be thankful for Tip, regardles of what he has done. So are you telling me you would rather TI not help anybody because he is perceived as a bad guy? Those 450+ people shouldn’t be fed because he has pending charges? Is this what you are telling me?

Anytime someone takes time and energy to say something negative about you, it shows their weakness. Jealousy!!!In time he will continue to make money and they will continue to hate because they are not..P.S. I am also in the first category so I understand..White people dont want you to have more than they do and these are the barriers that gravitate people like TI to other means to become “successful”. Some of you people are rediculous. So you mean to tell me the guy can be in the paper for the bad thing that he’s done but it’s not right to put him in the paper for doing charity? I’m sure Oprah and Bill get plenty of face time. When somebody comes along and isn’t in your image of what people are suppose to be then you hate. Get a grip and get a life. Most of you including me won’t do half the things we could posibly do for others during the holidays or any other time yet yet you spew your hatred and bias on message boards. Worry about yourself sometime and some of the ignorant things you do, try to change them and maybe this world would be a better place. Read back a couple weeks ago when this guy first went to court and you will see how the judge commended him on all of his charitable deeds. I guess you absorb what you want to huh? Anything to validate why you dislike a certain group of people. Hopefully your kids don’t grow up with your thinking.

All you jealous broke people need to stop being so full of hate. TI is not the boy next door but he is willing to consider others even when he is in a tough position himself. He is not doing this to change his image. He has always been very generous with his time and money even before he was arrested. If you do not believe me read the Judge’s statement concerning this when he appeared before him. I am sure the hungry and needy are happy to recieve money from him because you have none because you spend all your time judgeing and pointing fingers. In fact every person on here who put this man down need to give to Hosea Feed the Hungry. Do good for a change instead of spewing out bitterness and hate.

Dear “Smarter than u” (I beg to differ, by the way):

I am a middle-class white person and I do not get “jealous” of any black person who makes more than me. In fact I am not jealous of anyone regardless of what color they are or how much they make. My treasure is in heaven where it belongs.

This is not a matter of racism or anyone trying to keep the black man down. It is a matter of a corrupt culture gone completely awry. If you want to talk about jealousy, why don’t you look at all the hip-hoppers, rappers and gangstas (BMF or otherwise) constantly killing one another. THAT is the real problem. Why can’t you see it?

And it really scares me how some of you can refer to T.I. and others as “role models”. Please, please, please do not have any children.

And, dangit, so that’s why I can’t get a job! I steal from the company I don’t work at because they haven’t given me a job! I guess I stole the job! Wow!

Ah there we go again, that “more whites on welfare” statistic - a perennial favorite of the black community!!! Apparently you don’t know much about percentages, do ya there?

What is “trailer park high”? All white people live in trailer parks, don’t we? Dang, I was wondering what those wheels were on the bottom of my condo in Roswell; thanks for pointing out that I can “roll it away” if I want to!

TruthHurts, then why do you continuously blog on this website? I see your name on almost everything that I read. Are there more of you out there? As I said in an earlier post, if you don’t like it, don’t come to the site. The more hits they get, the more they are going to report on the “ghetto trash amd thug news”. Is that very intelligent?

Regardless of his motives…at least TI is helping those who are less fortunate. Lots of people will have a hot meal in their stomach on Thanksgiving because of TI’s willness to give. At the end of the day…that’s all that matters.

Community work T.I. has stepped up his community involvement as well, taking the lead on several initiatives to help the victims devastated by Hurricane Katrina, including personally donating $50,000 to the relief effort while leading an on-air Labor Day pledge drive on Atlanta’s V-103 FM that raised over $263,000 for Mississippi rapper David Banner’s “Heal the Hood” Foundation.

In June 2005, The Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes Foundation, named for the deceased member of multi-platinum female group TLC, and Atlanta’s V-103 honored T.I. with the 2005 Lisa Lopes Award for groundbreaking achievements in music and community service which was court ordered. With this steady list of growing accomplishments T.I. is being recognized as the “Jay-Z of the South.” according to Pharrell Williams of multi-platinum production team The Neptunes. [7]

Keno, you’re obviously new here, as your post is basically a regurgitation of the crap we’ve been seeing all day. None of T.I.’s resident butt-kissers on this site have provided any sensible reason why people who are glad he is getting what he deserves and is not a role model are inherently racist. Furthermore, if you or any of the other buffoons here sticking up for him think that someone who sells crack and buys illegal assault weapons - which are only used to murder someone - is a “role model” then guess what? Yes, we do look down on you, and yes, we do think you would lower our property values and no we don’t make any apologies for feeling that way.

And there really is nothing racist about it, no matter how much you try to pretend there is.

Love, Steve

Rusty, you can read all my posts, have I said anything that screams out “Jerry Springer”? Yeah, I know exactly who he was trying to talk about, but say what you want to say so that I can give an intelligent response. If you expect me to came back with an ignorant responses, you are sadly mistaken. You are right, he doesn’t know me, so I wanted to let him know a little about myself.

Oh, and Rusty, I already said that TI is not a role model. I don’t condone what he has done in the past. I just know that there are unfortunate people that will benefit from the charitable things that he is doing, regardless of what people perceive to be his motives.

Rusty,

We might not be able to show you a photo of Paris with a firearm but everyone knows that she violates the law. How many times has she been arrested for drunk driving and using drugs! Oh, and what did Martha Stewart go to the FEDERAL Penitentary. HOW DOES SHE GET ALL THAT MONEY! It sure is illegal to get insider tips on stocks!! Are Paris and Martha role models?

Yes, there are Michelle. Why are we making a big deal and why is this even a story, good question. The answer is that he is in the spot light right now and anything he does will make news for some reason. Why are people blogging? To discuss his perceived motives and character. Do I do as much charity work as I should? No. As a matter of fact, I don’t do much at all.

This is to the ones that took their opinion to a different level:

I read this blog last night and was totally disgusted by what it had turned in to. Instead of stating your opinion in an adult manner, many of you took the coward way out and used it to say what you really think of black people. I bet many of you that made those nasty comments are the same ones that hide behind your racist attitudes when something happens with the air-headed contingencies of those favorite euphemisms such as “oh I didn’t know racism existed”, “some of my best friends are black”, and now the most famous saying of all “a brotha from another mother”. It is individuals like you that have the hidden racism where you laugh in black people faces and torture them the first chance you take a look in West Virginia.

Vick and T.I. does not represent me and is not idolized or gloried by me. In fact, I am very upset with them because they had the world at their feet (and I am sure your racist behinds were included as well) and could do anything, but allowed their lack in judgment to cause them to make terrible decisions. However, who are we judge! We do not have a hell or heaven to put them in. So what, T.I. is a felon! Does that not make him fit to live or be successful. Tell me how many of you have not done things that you should have been locked up for, but just didn’t get caught. Be weary of the stones that you cast and take a look at your own.

It just amazes me how you whites are on the band wagon with blacks as long as it is good and you are profiting from it. Lord forbids, if something bad happens. Every time you turn around it was Vick this, Vick that! Now we have ousted Vick and now you are looking at Dunn. Oh, he is doing this! Dunn is doing that! You idiots he has been doing this all along.

In case of T.I. It irked me so bad that one news reporter said that she had not seen anything like T.I.’s court appearance (because the executives were trying to put up money during his first appearance). Also they were going to put up money for their “Cash Cow”. Where will they be, if he has to go to prison for awhile? I know somewhere trying to find another cow because T.I will probably be of no use any more.

I am a black professional woman (and have it going on to add) and I know many other black professionals that are the cream of the crop, but we do not get any air play because you are not able to make any money off of us. So you want to use a small percentage of successful black people such as Oprah & Obama because they are on TV. Trust me there are a lot us that are “doing the darn thing.” So what about your royal hosts such as Kid Rock, Martha Stewart, Michael Kopper & Kenneth Lay (eron executives), Michael Skakel, Nicole Richie, The Twins (you decide which set), just to name a few. Do you know what the difference between our royals and yours? Yours get to keep their jobs and/or prestige and ours are ripped of what you have allowed us to have and tossed away (so you think). Keep your head up Vick and T.I (pray for guidance and the ones that persecute you).
