King’s daughter gives ‘mad love’ to hip-hop

The most surprising guest to grace the red carpet before Saturday night’s BET Hip-Hop Awards? That would be Bernice King, the youngest child of Martin Luther King.

“It’s a celebration of Atlanta,” King said of Saturday’s festivities. “I think it’s a celebration of what I believe hip-hop is moving into. I think there’s a resurrection of sorts that hip-hop has come out of, post-[Don] Imus and post-Jena 6. Even though people don’t see it today, I see it coming.”

King said she didn’t have a favorite hip-hop artist but admitted to be particularly fond of one song.

“I have to give mad love to Fabolous and Ne-Yo for the song ‘You Make Me Better,’ ” she said. “They gave props to my mom and that touched my heart, it really did. As a matter of fact, I’m trying to get with them so I can really tell them that. I didn’t even know hip-hop could understand that.”

Saying the BET Hip Hop Awards are a celebration of Atlanta is like saying Freaknik was a celebration of Atlanta. MLK would truly be rolling over in his grave.

Yeah, that’s garbage. Incredible that AJC deems this worthy of print. Give us a break.

This is such a sad day when preachers and elders give honor to hip hop. It stands for NOTHING that Christians represent and serves to lower the standards in our culture, glorify violence and anti-family messages, poverty, crime, and exploit women. I am so saddened by this. No black leader will stand up today and speak up and into the black community…we give into ANYTHING and everything that calls itself black and yields money or power.

You coons have no standards. A preacher and daughter of MLK, Jr is on here paying honors to hip hop. Never mind that 90% of it is vulgar, nasty, violent, and degrades women. Why is any of this newsworthy? The NY Times would never put garbarge like this on its website. Coon culture has wrecked this city for good.

Just what Atlanta needs - another group of racist Blacks - a “Crapper Convention!” I remember this event last year. Some big gorilla stopped me walking down Peachtree Street stating, “You’z gonna haf to walk down da otha side of da street.” Rude, crude, nasty. Their presence alone is ludicrous!

Nice clothes…and why do the guys always grab their crotches? To make sure it’s still there? The jewelry, scuse me, bling…again, trash. Have they ever read a decent book besides what they wrote about themselves? Put them on the shelf near Britney, Paris, all the other losers. GET A REAL JOB.

Agreed. They were really nasty last year. Traffic jams, red carpet down Peachtree, ridiculous. MLK and Coretta (one fine lady, always respected and admired her) is probably spinning their graves.

Poor T.I. Stupid to get caught with machine guns and silencers right before the awards ceremony. Already on parole. This mistake should cost him a fex more years in prison.

I am truly disappointed to see Bernice King at this function. I wonder if her Senior Pastor was ok with her decision. Just because someone recognized her mother in one of their songsis no reason for her to attend this affair. What were you thinking?? 99% of the hip hop music has no redeeming value.I think that it is probably the number one reason that so many of our young black youths of today are on a path of self destruction. Where are we going…

It’s strangely telling when an event like T.I.’s arrest happens on the same day of the BET “hip-hop” Awards. Just another sad chapter in an even sadder industry. Hip-hop is a toxic culture which celebrates violence, subjugates women, and advocates disrespect for the law. The saddest comment of all is that T.I.’s arrest will only get him “street cred” among his thug-accomplices who are inflicting this on America and the world. Pitiful.

I jokingly asked a few co-workers to make a bet as to how many people would get shot this weekend. Not only is T.I. a dumb ass for doing this, but you have to wonder the urgency in getting the machine guns a few hours before he was supposed to perform. Was he planning on using them tonight? The Atlanta media is sorry. TMZ has the entire story already out, and the locals are like…we don’t know what happened. This is a major black eye for his career, hip-hop and the City of Atlanta. Money does not buy common sense. I bet Denzel is p** that this moron is even in American Gangster…wait..that’s it!!!!..he needed them for the movie promos. Gimme a break..I’m done with all of this nonsense. I hope the stations stop playing his records..

Watched the epsisode of “Punk’d” where they set T.I. up at an airport and got “caught” with pills and such. Although it didn’t really happen, T.I.’s comment was “I’m already on probation, I didn’t do it”. He is on parole which is much different. Why did he now do such a stupid thing??

Hip hop is dead. There should be no celebration. What are we celebrating? Hip hop use to speak about the atrocities of growing up in the hood, so we could see a better way out. Today’s music wants to keep us in the hood. I’m black and I’m with EVERY white person who criticizes this stupid ass culture!
