Day 2: JD on the grind

10:41 p.m. Friday

I did an interview earlier today with Good Day Atlanta for my first book, “Young, Rich and Dangerous,” which hits stores on October 16th. That was cool, but cold out this morning!

Then I did some radio interviews to promote a book signing I’m doing at Border’s on Peachtree tomorrow from 1 to 3. I’m hoping a lot of people come out to support!

Getting ready for my pre BET Hip Hop Awards party with Courvoisier tonight at Studio 72. It’s going to be crazy! You know I’m looking forward to that!

Gotta also get ready for the signing tomorrow and the awards. I’m presenting. It’s been a busy day…

Till next time…

JD

I hope the AJC isn’t paying him for this!

Look, you can talk about “culture changes” and whatever else passes through your head, but the fact is that the black race is in deep trouble and the government alone can’t fix it. The answer has to start with individuals taking responsibility and telling these media w** to their face that they do not represent anything that is good and worthy of being the image of the black race. Again, until we take responsibility, quit kissing up to the bad actors and irresponsible role models and giving them free publicity, then don’t expect to build self respect and don’t expect anyone to treat you with respect.

After reading these first two blogs, I must say I’m quite impressed with Mr. Dupri’s writing style. Surely “Young, Rich and Dangerous” will be considered for a Pulitzer or at the very least a Whitbred or NBCCA. Since Jermaine says this is his first book, we all have much to look forward to.

I’m not upset. I just think the AJC ought to be charging him for advertising space.

See, when you let loose with such a trash-mouth response it reflects back on you and your lifestyle.

The writing style seems very laid back. It is a blog, I understand that, but it just seems very empty. I guess I expected more depth. I still think that he is a great music producer. What can you say, he is doing his thing. Just wish it was a little more detailed. :)

The Spelmen (Atlanta Univiersity) women have it right. Pure exploitation from Courvoisier to the bling. They say the hip hop culture is based on sexism, misogony, and materialism.

So much for socially redeeming values. A real culture change is in order, but Cosby can’t beat the rap.

I WILL BASE MY OPINION ON THE BODY COUNT. LETS FACE IT SOME BLACK PEOPLE HAVE FORGOTTEN HOW TO SOCIALIZE.

IN RESPONSE TO THE USE OF THE WORD “CULTURE”. NOT EVERYTHING THAT WE DO IS CULTURE. MOST OF WHAT WE DO IS JUST THAT “SOMETHING THAT WE DO”.

CULTURE MUST STAND THE TEST OF TIME (CENTURIES) AND MUST SUSTAIN A PEOPLE NOT TEAR IT DOWN.

It really troubles me that people will place such negative comments to a blog. It is exactly what it is…a diary of one person’s day. It was JD’s job to tell about HIS BET Awards weekend experience. Once again, “Joe Public” has decided voice their opinions to a person’s personal life/experience. This reminds me of the old saying, “Those that live in glass houses should not throw stones”. In other words before you begin criticizing/analyzing someone else’s life you need to check your own backyard. It is really a sad day when people take an awards ceremony that brings millions of dollars to the Atlanta area and tries to turn it into a time for you to tell your opinion of the “State of Hip-Hop”. Remember, there is a time and a place for everything and this WAS NOT the forum to voice your opinions.

Why is any of this news? Its nothing but an excuse for all of the ghetto garbage in Atlanta and around the country to show off, rob people, get arrested, destroy restaurants, etc…give me a break. Black folks, please rid your race of the filth that has ruined it.

It was nice to see two of the Jena 6 to have their pics taken and posted in the photo section from the red carpet. Why were they there. Regardless of what happened down there with the charges and racial issues, these kids beat up on a white boy. 6+ on one? The fact is, they commited a violent action and that should never be glorified or defended. Where was the pride in the many of black kids who are earning scholarships for academic achievements? For going to med school or becoming doctors and lawyers? Nowhere. Oh, but that is not keeping it real. Keeping it real perpetuates what is communicated and is viewed as “okay”. No, “keeping it real” is to say “what I saw was wrong and it has to stop”. If the hip hop/rap community and BET glorifies these two, and perhaps the other 4, I feel that the black community that supports this glorification will continue to take 2 steps back in their efforts to right the wrongs(real or perceived) in the US and race relations. To me, it’s digusting. Name for me one “white” awards show that would glorify any criminals as a part of it’s show. Sorry y’all, but that just makes the equality efforts for the black community more difficult. Celebrate the kids who do well, who inspire, and are real role models for blacks. Then perhaps the movement will have some legs. Promote thugs and idiots and that is how the culture will be perceived. I think MLK would not judge most of these fools by the color of their skin, but the content of their character. Just plain rediculous. Name one other group, race, creed, religion in search of equality and prosperity that glorfies violence, sexism, homophobia and racism in their quest for fairness. Perhaps the black communty that reconizes there is a major problem should hire a PR firm to help guide and lead, since our leaders can’t. Or perhaps they just don’t care. It is easier to blame the white man for all that is wrong with me. Even if I am a jackass.
