I spent $50.00 to fill my tank this morning with Regular Unleaded gasoline, for a Ford Taurus. This is crazy. Thanks Bush supporters. As we continue to pay for HIA gas, transportation, housing, utilities, food, healthcare, what is he doing to help us - NOTHING.

I paid $3.00 a gallon for regular unleaded in Midtown. They are capping the amount you can pump at 10 gallons, and there are several pumps with no gas at the station I visited. I am going out of town this weekend, so I am trying to keep it filled to the top just in case. Scary!

I see a big recession coming, as the gas prices are going to trickle down into all parts of our economy. Maybe now it is time to think about our dependence on fossil fuels, and why we need to plan better for the world of tomorrow, for our kids and grandkids. Atlanta is a city in particular that i think can benefit from going through the reality of the upcoming gas shortages. It might just be a reality check we need.

I paid 2.77 a gallon during lunch at Exxon in Acworth Hwy 41 89 octane. I needed about 3/4 of a tank to fill up my truck, just under 50.00. Prices along 41 ranged from 2.77 to 2.89 for 89 octane. I expect by the weekend it will be well over 3.00 a gallon. I don’t expect a real shortage to occur but I have little doubt the gas companies will use the excuse to continue to raise the prices. This is getting out of control.

Went today at lunch to put gas in my car - $20.00 limit at this station downtown. Gas shortage will effect Georgia until the pipelines are fixed. Don’t go below a 1/2 tank of gas, because once the stations start running out, we might have a wait until they can be refilled.

The oil companies do a poor job of preparing for shortages that everyone knew would come someday, but instead of them losing money they only get richer as Americans pay more and more at the pump. This gas fiasco is going to destroy our economy is something isn’t done to correct this damaged industry. No other business could operate like OPEC and the oil companies and still be successful.

I topped off at lunch today at the Costco on Peachtree-Dunwoody. $2.53 for reg unleaded with about a 15 minute line (at 12:15). I really suggest topping off now, because I think that a shortage is a possibility. Yes, this is the U.S. of A., but we are still only human. They can bring in more from other areas (outside the southeast), but that will still cause a significant rise in price. Just pray that those pipelines can be restored soon!
Oh, and Micki, it will be an expensive trip, but you should be able to make it. Don’t try to fill up in Atlanta though, top off your tanks south of the city, before you get here. I’m thinking prices this weekend will hit $3.50 - $3.80 and most places will start imposing a 10 gallon limit

Perhaps we should look at it like this: Though it is unfortunate that we are going to have to pay higher prices at the pump, at least we have cars to fill up and homes to drive home to. The people most affected by Katrina have suffered devastating losses to their families and homes. I am sure they would gladly trade places with us.

It appears to me that the “shortage” is being caused by people who are panicking about a shortage.
Of course some gas stations are going to run out if everyone in the city fills up all of the cars and extra containers all at the same time. That would have happened any day of the year.

After hearing news reports, etc. that the $3.00/gal price was beginning to show up sporadically across the country (a rumor is that it was also posted in Peachtree City this morning), I went ahead and took advantage of the $2.68ppg at the QT on Franklin Road here in Marietta this morning although I had 1/4 of a tank left. With my little Saturn, I only paid $19 and change for fillup. But, there was a time that I hardly had to pay $10 to fill up which seems so long ago now. Yes, I believe we’ll not only see $3 - $4 ppg SOON, but that there could very well be a gas shortage similar to the 70’s crisis. I hope I’m wrong….

It’s time to face the fact that for over 10 years gas prices have been creeping up while gas milage has gone down and car size has increased. I remember in the 70’s during another gas crisis being glad to get 10 gallons of gas when I could. No topping off, or filling exta gas cans for later. Wake up,we need to change our ways, improve our rail system, look for alternate fuels and become less dependent upon foreign coutries for fuel. Mother Nature has given us a wake up call and we had better listen this time.

I paid $2.69/gallon at B.P. on Hugh Howell Road in Tucker, GA. at 1:00 pm. My thoughts on potential shortage: Yes for jet fuel…good luck flying this weekend. Gasoline supplies = 10 days in the metro tank farms North of town. Pipeline should be back up within 5 days…so I predict no absolute shortage, i.e. closed stations. However, panic and tight supply should drive prices to $3.20/gallon by the weekend and for several weeks. -Courtesy of The Risk Manager.

I live in S. Ga (Hazlehurst), this morning several gas stations went to 2.88 and 2.98 per gallon, i reported to the federal gov’t gas gouging web site. Now every station is gone up to 2.99 or over 3.00 for regular gas. The fuel truck drivers are telling the gas station owners that they cannot get anymore gas, that their distributors can’t get any because of that busted pipe line that they can’t get to to fix. They are telling the station owners that for atleast 3 weeks, there will be no gas. I don’t if this is true but that is what my town is being told. Does our gov’t know this, why are they not talking about this. These little towns will blow away in a matter of weeks. Our gov’t has go to help stop this somehow.

AHHH, I just paid $31.00 for a full tank of gas and I have a Acura Rsx. What a pain this is. And for the record we need to think about all the lives this hurricaine destroyed, and thats the main reason why we are haring this gas issue. I would like to say that our government is doing every thing in its power to get everyone back on their feet. Still I feel everyones pain with having to pay these prices to get to work.

I filled up an hour ago in Conyers at BP on Salem Rd. The 87 octane was at 2.69 but there were very few pumps that had the cheap stuff left. When I drove back by that same gas station only 30 minutes later, the price had gone up to 2.79. So far, that’s the cheapest that I’ve seen. The other gas stations in the area were already up to 2.99/gallon.

I filled my tank (but I was on empty) for $2.799 today for regular unleaded. I do plan on changing my transportation habits by returning to commuting to work by Marta & CCT. I have read several postings regarding the shortage, and I can confirm that there is approximately a 5 day supply for the Atlanta Metro area due to the gasoline pipe lines from Houston through Louisiana being damaged. Because of the severity of the impact of Katrina, commodity oil on the trading floor is also projected to spike after today. However, everyone’s rampage to top off their gas tanks will not only deplete the supply more rapidly, but send a economic ripple effect; consumer fear will assist in progressing our economy to a recession (which may be inevitable due to severe damage caused by Katrina).

I just filled up our extra car. My husband works for the gasoline pipeline and has to get to work. I paid $2.999 for Amoco ultimate. The regular is already gone and the midgrade is going fast. There are 2 Chevron stations in my area already closed due to no gas. It is serious. We cancelled our labor day trip and are going to stay home and work around the house. We are cutting out any unneccessary trips. We can all work together to get through this. We had been here before.

Paid $2.59 for regular about an hour ago inside the Perimeter, but saw much higher prices elsewhere (up to $2.99). It’s up to the owner to set the price, but if the owner wants to gouge, I guess there’s nothing to stop them other than to drive on by.

We’ve been at $2.75 - $3 for weeks in California. Bush cut 300 million dollars allotted for disaster preparation around New Orleans in 2003, and recently suggested alloting 10 million dollars instead. Half the National Guard and reserves from Louisiana are in Iraq, along with their equipment. Want to know why people are dying in New Orleans, and your gas and oil bills are going through the roof? Your money is going to Iraq, and the oil (which we supposedly didn’t go to war for) isn’t coming from there either.

I heard the stories on WSB Radio (not that I think they caused the problem) this morning and thought it might be good to top off the tank just in case. Then I listened to more news and got a little more worried and went to buy some gas cans to keep a small reserve. Gas cans were flying off the shelves too! Now I’m wondering if I just got caught up in the intial fear and panic. I think that gas would be scarce and there would be stations without gas, but I think we could find it. I’m worried now that the hype is causing panic and making this whole situation out to be a self-fulfilled prophecy. We’re certainly going to suck the tanks clean if everyone keeps buying gas at this rate.

Thank God I filled up at QT Roswell Rd last night! $2.59/gal at the time. Auto Manufacturers, get your heads out of the sand and recognize that we need a viable, affordable electric or alternate fuel vehicle NOW, not in 2025. Spending billions for hydrogen cell research now, to benefit in 20 yrs? Come on! Electrics have been around in some form or another for 30 yrs!
