Airline passengers say a new airline service at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport is more convenient than flying out of Atlanta, and cheaper as well.

Silver Airways began offering service to Atlanta and Orlando, Fla. in April and airport manager Doug Faour told the Telegraph of Macon (http://bit.ly/193d8Jr) business has been increasing since then. Faour says the airline has served more than 500 passengers between July and September.

Macon Mayor Robert Reichert says his goal is for the airline to serve 10,000 passengers in a year to push the Federal Aviation Administration to increase contributions for maintenance and improvements at the airport.

Samar Othman told the newspaper that he and his family regularly drove to Florida from middle Georgia, and will likely fly from the regional airport from now on.
