Wisconsin's largest nursing home wants to close

The Associated Press

MILWAUKEE —

Wisconsin's largest nursing home is requesting to close.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/GCUBtG ) Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, formerly known as Mount Carmel, is requesting permission from the state Department of Health Services to close.

The move, if approved, would affect 240 patients and residents and about 400 employees.

In a statement, the company says the facility's size, age and design is no longer consistent with consumer preferences.

A closing can't occur until 120 days after a relocation plan is approved.

Staff will have to meet with residents and families to discuss their placement options, and the company will assist in arranging visits and cover moving expenses.

The Milwaukee facility's owner, Louisville, Ky.-based Kindred Healthcare Inc., is ending lease agreements for 60 nursing centers around the country.
