PIERRE, S.D. —

New data from the federal government show that South Dakota had the second-highest vaccination rate nationally last season.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that more than half of the state's adult population got a shot.

Massachusetts had the highest rate, with 57.6 percent, followed by South Dakota and Rhode Island, each with a 56.7 percent. The national rate was 45 percent.

The CDC says South Dakota's highest coverage rate was among people 65 years and older and the lowest was among people 18 to 49.
