Ottumwa bowlers join to fight breast cancer

The Associated Press

OTTUMWA, Iowa —

Some Ottumwa residents are taking to the bowling lanes to raise money for cancer research.

The Ottumwa Courier reports (http://bit.ly/16Kx1a4 ) the Women's Bowling Association of Ottumwa will sponsor a Bowl for the Cure tournament for the sixth straight year on Sunday, Oct. 12. The association also has added a youth tournament on Saturday.

Most of the money raised at the tournament will go to the Southeast Iowa affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The organization is dedicated to fighting breast cancer.

Last year, the tournament raised more than $3,500 for the foundation.

The money is raised from entrance fees as well as a raffle, bake sale and door prizes.

Last year, 19 teams participated.
